I was visiting someone recently and on my way home, I stopped at a nearby grocery store. It's a very small supermarket in a close-knit neighborhood, but I'm not from the area, but I had never been there before.

As I was leaving, I heard the office clerk calling the manager to the front. As he arrived, the young lady said "Some guy just walked out with two mini-kegs of Heineken." They had a brief discussion about where was the security guard, then the manager trots out front to try and catch the guy.

I went to my car and headed for home. I was about six blocks away when I see a young guy powerwalking in the street, carrying - you guessed it - two kegs of Heineken.

I honestly didn't know what to do. I didn't even know what street or avenues I was between, there were no open parking spots to pull into, and the guy ducked between two parked cars to get to the sidewalk.

I pulled over at the top of the street about 3/4 of a block away and turned on my GPS to figure out where I was and get the store's telephone number. The guy never came up the street so he either went into one of the houses or ducked into a backyard.

At this point, I decided to MYOB because I had nothing of value to say to the store: I didn't know where the guy disappeared to and they couldn't have checked every house on the block.

What would you have done?

I certainly would not have tried to investigate. You have no idea what that person was capable of and getting involved in that scenario could have been dangerous. I'm not getting involved over stolen beer.

At that point nothing. Once he is off the store property from my understanding they can't do anything. I think the police might be able to but I don't even know about that. And you are right, they can't go door to door.

I would not risk getting shot for Heineken. Its not that good of a beer.

:rotfl: Now, that is FUNNY!:thumbsup2 I work IN a grocery Store and actually watched a guy walk out with 2 12 packs of Newcastle Brown Ale without paying...we had no security, and I WAS NOT going to run after the guy!:sad2:

I was working at a store once where two younger guys stole something. The manager went running after them, but didn't catch them. When the police arrived, they yelled at the manager for it. As they said, its not worth losing your life over, and you never know who has a gun/knife anymore.

I would have called the police. I would have told them that I had been at such and such store and overheard the employees talking about a guy stealing the 2 mini kegs, and that I just saw him on whatever street I was on. At that point, I would do whatever the police told me to do. Who knows if the store had even called it in at that point, but just in case, I would want to do my part. I wouldn't go investigate on foot myself or anything like that, but I would have called the police to at least tell them about it. I'm a little surprised that no one else mentioned that, as that was the first thing that popped into my head to do. I wouldn't have even tried finding the store # or calling them...I mean what are they going to do? They have no right to do anything at that point, and really that's not safe. At that point it's for the police to handle, but honestly I wouldn't have felt like I had done my job as a citizen to not call the police. Like I said, who knows if they would've done anything about it, or if they even knew anything at that point, but at least I did everything that I could have (with my safety in mind.)

Sorry, New South Welshman here. :)

Redback is nice, though I haven't had it for a long time. Nearly picked up a six pack at the bottle-o last week, but went with Crownies instead.

Nothing wrong with a crownie, and the have the best ads. :)

I wouldn't have done anything either, you never know what will happen and with kids to worry about I just can't take the chance.

As for beer, give me a good Stella anyday. :)

Do you mean the manscapers, men punching above thier own weight, blokes who sign little bats & those chucking a sickie to be in the parade?

Am I the only one that thought it might be completely possible that in the interest of making a profit, the store carries more than 2 kegs of beer, and this guy bought some for himself? If you were 6 blocks away, how would you even know he came from the same store as you? Honestly, I wouldn't have said anything or done anything. As others said, you don't know what other people are capable of, and honestly, you don't even know if this was the guy they were talking about, maybe he did buy the kegs, and the store was talking about another guy.

No, you're not the only one who thought that.
