WWYD - Shady things happened with workers while roofing

Sounds to me like a BAWWWOOOOOOOOSHI poopi. And when you have a Bawooooooshi poopie coming, there's no stopping it and sometimes you're so preoccupied, you don't close doors behind you.

I’m sorry your DD had that unacceptable experience. I recently had my roof replaced, and it was of those oh-so-rare, perfectly satisfying home repair jobs. I went with the company with the highest estimate, because they had a very detailed, professional proposal, AND my general contractor neighbor highly recommended them. They showed up on time with a very large team of workers and started immediately. The only funny thing was their break. They actually brought a microwave, and asked if they could plug it into an outside outlet and use my patio table for lunch. No problem! They never asked to use my bathroom. When they were leaving, I did a quick inspection. Everything was spotless. They totally cleaned out all my gutters and even neatly trimmed some hedges as part of their cleanup around the house. The supervisor provided all the completed paperwork (with photos) so I could get an insurance price reduction. It was awesome. I was so glad I didn’t go with the low bidder.

I think you had the same guys we had here, in orange park, that our landlord hired to do the roof. They had a little white microwave that they plugged into the outside plugs for their lunch. Never used our bathroom either. They did leave a mess with the gutters; the gutters were trashed anyways, so they pulled them off to do the roof, and placed them all over the backyard, but it started lightning and hailing after they were done with the roof, so they couldn't finish doing cleanup.

No mention of the poop blowout in the OP or u til several pages in. If I invite workers to my home I’m going to treat them like human beings and know that they might need to relieve themselves at some point during a long day, and don’t expect them to cop a squat outdoors. Anytime I’ve had work like this done at my home everyone has worked very hard. No, they typically don’t all go out to lunch. This reminds me of when my mom, cleanest person I know, was having work done in her immaculate house, and complained that the workers used her decorative hand towels in the bathroom. Um, what did you expect them to use?

OP, there are a lot of opinions on here, but I would NOT let it go. What if she doesn't speak up and something happens to a woman or child that she let in to use the bathroom? My husband worked construction his whole life and he never, ever asked anyone to use their bathroom.
Also a younger person like your daughter is inexperienced in these things. My own daughter answered the door to a man who wanted a ride to his house. So, SHE Did IT! She shouldn't have done that at all, and now she wonders what she was thinking. Thank heavens it worked out and the man was nice and not a problem. All younger people make errors.
Also, stealing your fruit was not acceptable. It is stealing.
I'm just glad your daughter came out of it without an incident.
I would definitely talk to the owner and report them to the better business bureau so no one else gets caught in this situation. It is not acceptable. IMO

The contract had no mention about needing to let the contractors use her bathroom. Plus, I've never heard of something like that even being in a contract. They needed to provide proper facilities.

I have several years of handling insurance claims and made sure DD and her husband along with myself and DH read the contact together beforehand.

I Have to ask, why are you taking care of your grown married daughters roofing issue? Maybe Her husband should of maybe supervised the job his self.

I would let him know about the behavior you found unacceptable. I wouldn’t expect compensation but I would want him to know it happened. We had a roof replaced and the owner stayed there the whole time. They should not have asked to enter your house. They should have driven to a gas station.

I don’t think the workers not speaking English is an indication of the behavior expected. We have found workers of all ethnicities to be very hard working.

This is why I HATE having anything done to the house. Several years ago we put in an in-ground pool. The workers were awful and made it very clear on day 2 that they were unhappy with the cooler of water that I left as they ran out too soon and they like drinks other than water oh and I never fed them lunch. Oh. Heck. No. Nope. Not feeding you. Not giving you anything other than a cooler of water.

I really do not understand how anybody can go out on the job for the day and not have a plan for meals and drinks. I don't expect my customers to feed and water me, I don't get why construction workers expect it. Bring a personal cooler.

Your daughter has my sympathies - this does not shock me in the least, I have had countless awful experiences with workmen to the point that now I will ask other people to be around the whole time just to prevent the aggression. They do stuff with females they would never ever do with another male around, some dudes will act totally different in the presence of another male, which says alot about how they are in their personal lives. Yes, I know it shouldn't be this way but it is this way, happened recently with HVAC mansplaining the most idiotic reasoning in the world, couldn't wait to kick him out - no sale, begone loser.

I would pay more for female only staff who did the same level work just to avoid this weird behavior.

That's a great business idea - A women only handy(wo)men company. By and for women only.
Not sure it would be allowed in America (or other countries) as it could be seen as "discriminatory"
In Australia they have an Uber-like service for women only, driven by women only. - If that is ever allowed in the US, and someone gets on it, wow, instant millionaire. I would 100% be part of a company like that, as an investor only.
