I'm torn. DH and I are going in December for our anniversary. No kids coming for this visit. :cloud9: We've always wanted to stay at the Poly and when we were there in June we visited the GF for dinner and tea and just loved the look of the resort.

DH thinks we're staying at SOG again, but I'd like to surprise him :wizard: . Currently I have the Poly booked, but I keep thinking about GF. Especially since I know it will be decked out for Christmas :santa: (his favorite time of the year).

I HATE making decisions....Which would you choose? And no fair saying a split stay.:rotfl: I've already ruled that out. :rolleyes1

I'll be at Poly in December, but nothing seems more romantic than the GF. A lot of couples that go on Disneymoons stay there, and it truly is beautiful during the Christmas season.

You could always do dinner at the Poly one night, it's only a monorail ride away!
Either way, enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

Having stayed at both, I would recommend the Poly. While GF is beautiful, I found the rooms much better at the Poly. Plus it felt like we were at a tropical resort while still enjoying Disney magic!

We stayed at the Grand Floridian during the Christmas season, and it was absolutely beautiful! They greet you each evening with roasted chestnuts, orchestras, huge Christmas tree, life sized gingerbread house (selling the cutest cookie ornaments for gifts) etc. You really get swept away. The Poly is great too, but with the South Seas theme, it really doesn't (imho) fit as well the Christmas feel as the GF or the WL. I'd love to do the Poly in warm weather.

I think you would love the GF. Each morning they wish you a "grand day" and you truly have one. There's also a hot tub as the pools were a little cool for us. Depending on when you go, there may be a chance for an upgrade as we were upgraded from standard to sugarloaf concierge. It was an incredible vacation, and all the kids loved it too. We felt really spoiled.

:goodvibes We are staying at the GF in December just for the reasons csamom stated. it sounds so magical and in the spirit of the holidays that we couldnt' resist!!! We just stayed at the Poly last month, and to be honest with you, service was lacking and we just weren't "blown away" like i thought we should have been with the amount of $$ we spent. The poly is pretty and the restaurants there are great...but to feel real disney xmas magic..i say GF all the way.
Happy Anniversary ( early)...you will have a great trip regardless of where you stay i am sure :)

It sounds like the GF might be the best choice for you. If you are Christmas fans, there is no better place than the GF (Poly does some things, but its hard with the decor). Also, according to the nebulous reports about the GF refurb, by December, all the rooms except the Main Building concierge should be renovated with brand new soft goods, carpets, and flat screen tvs. At the very least some of the buildings should be done so you could request and hope for a refurbished room.

If SOG is fully booked you can get an overflow rate. So don't forget to check back closer to departure.

But my vote is for GF!

Since it's just the two of you I would go for the GF. Especially since you said your DHs fav time of year is xmas..he'll love it. Although the Poly is decorated for xmas the GF was beautiful.

My DH and I are going in December also and it is just the two of us so we decided on the GF. We love the Polynesian also but you can't beat the GF at the holidays.

I couldn't have said it better! :thumbsup2

We love both resorts, but the GF is just that much more special at the holidays. We'll be there right after Thanksgiving, and I can't wait! :goodvibes

Two adults, no kids, no budget? Grand Floridian baby!

LOL! :rotfl: Well there IS a budget..I can't swing concierge (although I can seriously hope for an upgrade!:rotfl:) It would have to be a garden view, but we don't spend too much time looking out our window, so it's not something I'm willing to pay extra for (but I wouldn't say no if we somehow got a Magic Kingdom view or something like that):rolleyes1

It looks like Grand Floridian wins hands down. I'll try for the Poly on another trip..Going to switch my ressies now!:woohoo: Thanks everybody!:cloud9:

Now I just have to manage keeping it a secret from DH until then!

The rooms will now have flat screen tv's?

Excellent decision! :thumbsup2 You will not be disappointed, they go all out for Christmas. :santa:
