WWYD??? Parenting related...

Everyone says this on these threads every time. Can you imagine that they are the exact same way behind closed doors. If I'm going to discipline my kid in my home for something, I'm going to do the same thing if I were out and about. Except I can't do a time out thing for obvious reasons but yelling... yup, A swat on the behind.... yup, a smack in the mouth if hey talk back... yup.

they know the rules and the consequences are the same no matter where they are. I don['t care who is "watching" me or following me around. It's not your child, MYOB !

And to answer..... I would mind my own business. If it is not extreme physical then it is not my business. I don't consider a swat or smack to be abuse. It is a lesson learned in discipline for some. And it works for my kids.

"A smack in the mouth"?! Yikes.

Spanking your child on the bottom for bad behavior is one thing and imo, is discipline. Smacking your child in the mouth is a whole other ballgame and I believe it's child abuse.

I am an adult now and faced verbal and physical abuse. The physical abuse stopped when I left home however the verbal abuse haunts me and has really taken a toll on my self esteem, which I have none. I wish someone had minded my families business. Verbal abuse wears your spirit down and never goes away.

I couldn't agree more. There is something wrong with an adult who has no other skills but to "smack" a child in the mouth. :sad2:

Now that we have that out of the way. . .idk OP. It's hard to judge the situation not really being there. I would be inclined to say mind your own business, but seeing as the police showed up and this aunt got arrested, I would say you did the right thing. It must have been pretty out of control.

I have to be honest. . .my oldest is very strong willed. We were in Ikea once and she had one of the worst tantrums I have probably ever witnessed. I take full responsibility. . .I know she was tired and cranky. BUT. . it was truly awful. I ended up having to carry her out of the store (pretty much like a sack of potatoes). I got lots of dirty looks, and it was a LONG walk out of the bowels of Ikea. But in the end, all I did was carry her out. . .shaking my head and apologizing to passerbys. . and swearing that I was, in fact, her Mom and not some stranger abducting her. . .because I'm sure that's what it must have looked like to some people. :sad2:

I know it's a judgment call. I once saw a man put a child (about 7) in the trunk of a car. Did I call 911 with the license plate number? You betcha! I figure it's always better to err on the side of protecting a child. :thumbsup2
