WWYD? DLH or DD's Preschool Picture Day?

Hi All,

It may sound silly, but I just wanted to get your opinion on something:

The day that AP rates came out we booked the DLH for next week. We wanted to go in Sept while it's still hot so our DD's could take advantage of the Neverland Pool. They love swimming and we know they'll have a blast in the pool. We weren't even planning on going to DL since we go so often. We were planning on just hanging around the hotel, the pool & DTD.

Well, DD4 starts preschool tomorrow. She's only going on Tuesdays & Thursdays. We knew we would keep her out of school for the day we go to the DLH. But I just got the schedule for her school and it turns out the day we're going to stay at the DLH is her picture day at school. I asked the teacher if she can take make-up pictures, which she can, but she won't be in the picture with her class. Do you think that's a big deal? I know it's only preschool, but I scrapbook and think it would be cute to scrapbook that picture. Should we cancel the DLH so she can take her class picture? Or as DH says "it's only preschool" and it doesn't matter if she's in the class picture as long as she gets to take a make-up picture by herself?

I know DD would rather go swimming in the Neverland Pool than take a class picture, but am I depriving her of a special memory? Or am I making too much out of nothing?

If she only goes 2 days a week, then I wouldn't stress about missing it. These won't be the kids she remembers. Kindergarten pictures are another matter. I wouldn't miss those.

You can always put the class picture in her scrapbook next to one of her enjoying the Neverland Pool. Journal about the choice you made and how much fun it was at the pool. Everyone of her classmates would have made the same choice :).

ask your teacher if she can take a group photo with a regular camera once your DD is back or before you leave you can scrapbook with that instead ... ok the kids won't be in their best preschool clothes but you will have a photo of the group. If you think she may miss out on trading pictures with classmates (do they still do that?) Take a cute picture (I know take one of your DD at the Disney Hotel :thumbsup2 ) and print your own small ones for her to hand out when the kids get their pictures back

I like both of these ideas because honestly I love looking back at all my old class pictures, and yes even my preschool one. I don't remember all the kids but I do remember most and I would hate for her to miss out on that when she's in her 20's or even when she has her own kids going into preschool. HOWEVER, I agree with everyone else and you guys should definately do DLH she'll have the time of her life.

This happened to us but with t'ball. We chose DLH and we were the coaches!!! We went to make-up pictures so DS could get his individual picture.
I think taking a picture of the whole class when you get back, or prior to going, is a great idea. You might want to check with the teacher to see if she has a picture like that already. I know DS's preschool teacher was taking pictures of the class all the time.

Pre school picture, most definately go to DLH...

I'm of the school that people make way to much of preschool these days with graduation cerimonies etc... Sorry it's just not that big a deal.

I remember way more about my disney trips when I was 4 than I do about what happened in preschool.

If cameras were never allowed in preschool and this was a one shot deal to preserve photographic evidence of this years' class for your DD, I'd say make the extra effort to be there for the picture.

Since in every preschool I've been involved with there are many, many opportunities to get group shots with the whole class (some of which turn out way cuter than the staged group photo IMO) I really wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'm a scrapbooker, too, and I love both these ideas! We moved a few times when I was in elementary school, so I also have class photos that don't have me in them. I would have loved having even an informal class photo.

I agree with everyone else, though, go to Disneyland! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much everyone! I'm so glad you confirmed our decision. :D

I do like the idea of journaling in my scrapbook about why DD missed class picture day right next to a photo of her enjoying the Neverland Pool.

From what I believe there will be many opportunities to get pictures of DD with her class other than just on picture day. They're having a Christmas Recital, Teddy Bear Parade, Mother's Day Tea, Father's Day Ice Cream Social, Graduation. So plenty of opportunities. Plus even though she won't be in the class photo, I'm sure I'll still be able to purchase a class photo.

Thanks again for helping me decide. I'm going tomorrow to buy little surprises for the girls from Mickey & Minnie that will be waiting in our hotel room when we get there ;). The photo of the look of surprise on their little faces should be way better than any class picture.

go to DLH!!! You can do the make up picture for her individual shot and still scrapbook the class picture. Even if she isn't in the class picture it is still a picture of all the kids she went to preschool with. ;) As far as I know with most school picture pacages you get a copy of the class picture regardless of if you are in it or not. We went through the same thing last year with my DD soccer pictures and even though she wasn't in the team photo we still got one as part of the package.

We did this also except it was with a major team. Some of the kids and coaches couldn't make it for picture day so we told them to come on make up day. We were the only team to take pictures on make up day.;)

I saw go for DLH and make up the pictures.

Couldn't agree more!!! Go to DL, plenty of school stuff will get in the way of trips later, but preschool is really no biggie!!!

Have fun!

Missing a day of preschool or two, or three will not ruin your daughter's chances of getting into Harvard, Yale, Cal, Stanford... take your pick!:lmao:

And we've all see what the wonders of photoshop can do to pictures!

Have fun while they are young!

HI, I know you made your decision already and this post had dropped, but it caught my eye. I say I would definitely go to Disneyland...b/c my son is not in HIS preschool picture from a few years ago either. Because he was SICK! So, it happens for lots of reasons, and not all of them are good ones like this.

At least there will be good memories (and pictures!!) from something FUN!!

I'm also for skipping the preschool picture. First - time with your family will always be more important than any preschool and those pictures together will be priceless. When you're not around anymore, I'm certain she'd rather have pictures of herself enjoying her family than her preschool class filled with kids she mostly doesn't even remember or know (although I admit those are cute too!)
