We had a trip booked for July that we had to cancel as I ended up in the hospital due to illness / pain

I'm finally starting to feel better - still having some issues but I've been told that it will take several weeks to get back to where I was at :sad1: Though very very thankful that it wasn't worse and I know many many people deal with much worse :guilty:

I feel absolutely terrible that we missed our trip :sad1: and DS will be back in high school in only a couple of weeks so time is almost up on a go / no go for this summer :headache:

So my question is would you go to WDW while you are still having some pain and recovering from an illness :confused3

If you think you would rest enough maybe. It would be harder but you know yourself better than anyone else. You would probably have to take it a lot more slower than normal and you might have to rest.

I would not go. It will slow any further recovery and if it was bad enough to land you in the hospital once it can do so again. I would plan another trip during a school break and finish your recovery.

I couldn't do it. I need to be at full health to vacation. I think personally it just depends on you.

I agree. I am glad you are feeling better!!

Another consideration is the excessive heat there right now, that slows you down and add an illness on top of that and it won't be fun.

It's hard to answer this for someone else, but I think I would reschedule the trip for another time when I was fully recovered, perhaps for Christmas or spring break.

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your illness and hope you recover very soon..

Secondly, no - I wouldn't chance the trip.. You're not fully recovered; it's going to be brutally hot; and if you were hospitalized once, it could happen again - in Florida..

You said your DS is in HS, so I'm sure he understands and wouldn't want you to take any chances with your health.. Try for a school break.. You'll be better - and it will be much cooler!

Good luck! :goodvibes

It would completely depend on your illness. If it is a finite thing like you had your appendix out and you will get better and be all over it or if it is a chronic type thing that your long term management could be altered by screwing up your recovery. If it were the appendix and I had a High Schooler I would probably go and just take it very easy. I would set my HS'er free to move around the park at their speed and meet for meals and sit and watch a lot. If you want to go to a water park again I would find a spot and rest get my son on the lazy river and sit by the slides and watch him have fun. If you are tired at night you could go back and rest and he would be old enough to continue on. At his age he is going to want a little space anyway. Disney is a great spot to take it easy or go commando you can pick and it is a great spot to let your teens have freedom.

Having a DD going away to college in a couple of weeks I totally understand wanting to do it now because very quickly he will be busy with work and activities and it becomes very hard to find the time.

The way we do Disney - we usually need a vacation from our vacation. I wouldn't go unless I was fully recovered. I'm sure your DS will understand. Hope you feel better soon!

I got sick on my last trip and don't think there is anything more depressing than being on WDW property and not caring because I didn't feel well. Like the others said, the heat will only make things worse. Why not postpone until you can do it easily, such as during a fall or winter break of some kind? Thanksgiving is just as crowded as the summer months but the cool temperatures make it way more tolerable.

If I felt up to it and doctor was okay with it.

Sometimes, during a recovery...since we are improving, we feel we are well enough to do something when we really aren't. That is why you should ask your doctor without trying to sway their opinion.

No, I wouldn't go. You may feel fine on the trip, but it will slow your progress in getting better and that wouldn't be worth it. Also, you wouldn't want to end up in the hospital again when it can be avoided.

Wait til you are better and go at a later time.

Looks like we aren't going :sad1::sad1::sad1::sad1::sad1::sad1::sad1:

We talked about it quite a bit and spoke with my DR and he like most here advised not to go..... :sad1:

I feel just terrible for my son that he missed out on vacation because of my illness :guilty: and really wanted to make it up to him by trying to go but in the end I guess it's just not worth the risk. I just really very guilty :guilty:

My family is being so wonderful about the whole situation. They say I feel worse about it than they do but still :guilty::guilty::guilty::guilty:

As DS says.... we are just postponing not canceling ::upsidedow

You made the right decision.. Your health is #1 and I'm sure your DS would rather have his mom well and free of pain - rather than going on a vacation for his sake..

We parents never want to disappoint our kids if at all possible, but - sometimes "life" gets in the way..:goodvibes

I just got back on Sunday from a quick trip down there wiht DH for our anniversary. We had a wouonderful time but let me tell you--it was HOT!!!!!! It was hard to stay hydrated. We did a very laid back trip, going to the parks early mornings and coming back to the Dolphin by lunchtime. Then we'd head out again late in the day for awhile. We did a lot of "meandering" and just took it easy. We averaged 11 miles a day.

I think you are smart to postpone your trip. Get well soon!
