WWYD - Boardwalk vs. Beach Club?

You aren't alone. We tried SAB once, didn't like it.

I'll ask a different question - 30 points at a different resort is going to be a small contract to be able to book anything. And you can't use your other points over at BCV/BWV until the 7 month window opens - how are you planning on using your points? If you want BWV for standard view studios during F&W, they are hard to get, and you might as well wait for BCV.

We're planning on buying 32 points which will get us 2 nights in a studio every year, or more likely, 4 nights every other year for a Food & Wine trip. Sometimes we may combine points with our other contract at 7 months for a bigger trip and see what's available at any resort at that point.

We weren't that impressed with SAB (I know we're probably the only ones!), so this really doesn't affect our decision. Although the creepy clown at Boardwalk doesn't win any points either!

There are plenty bigger and better pools at other resorts, just not at Disney. The Hilton by the convention center on I-Drive has a really nice lazy river. It's hard to beat the location, pool area, and beach theme combo though in terms of a Disney resort.

That said, every person who doesn't like it is one less for me to have to compete with on the booking engine. Oh, and screaming kids and rude people DEFINITELY would never want to stay at BCV either, so if that applies to anyone reading this, I highly recommend BWV (or POP/AoA) for you. ;)

No, he's just trying to steer people away from buying or booking BCV until Mrs. ScubaCat says it's ok to sell their contracts.

I am torn about this one. My family and I LOVE Beach Club but are a bit put off by the DVC side of the resort. The DVC pool has little to no shade and there is just something about the green buildings that conflicts with the rest of the resort.

Boardwalk doesn't quite feel as serene as Beach Club but the DVC side of things feels much better integrated and the garden views are quite nice. The stores at the base of Boardwalk along with the food offerings trump Beach Club but I haven't stayed in the DVC side yet to know if we prefer the resort over all. We are staying in the DVC side for the first time this March and hope we like it as much as the cash side of Beach Club.

Pool wise, the clown pool is kind of freaky but there seems to be lots of shade on offer and the pool size is quite manageable to watch kids run around etc. SAB by comparison is massive, very busy and tough to watch the kids so it is not my favourite pool in general.

Dang. Someone just went BWV = POP/AoA!

(shots fired!)

Nah.. BWV is a lot better. I was being generous so the bad people wouldn't take all the rooms from my fellow DIS'ers who like staying there. :)

As for the actual question, I subscribe to the "buy where you want to stay" philosophy given the booking challenges that are only getting worse as more and more members are in the booking pool. If you prefer BCV (and who doesn't, right?) buy there. If BWV is your preference, well... by all means buy there! Waiting a little while for the points you want to become available is a very minor hassle for a long term purchase IMHO.

I bought and sold BCV because we only stayed there twice the entire time I owned it. It is a lovely property but my group always requested BWV. I would suggest staying there before buying.

I know I saw this before but I can't find it now. Does anyone know how many studios BCV has compared to BWV? Thanks!

The main advantage BWV has (in lieu of a decent pool, of course #BCVtroll #clownsarescary) is the standard view studios for 10 points a night during F&W. They're apparently really hard to book if you don't own there.

And also BWV rooms for the same # points as a random-no-view room at BCV. For which it is also helpful to have home resort advantage.

Last question and then I swear I'm done because I need to make a decision today. After looking at the info in the above link about the number of studios at both locations, it looks like BCV has a significantly less number than BWV. How difficult is it to book a studio at BCV at 11 months out during Food & Wine? Do you need to be online right when booking opens? I don't want to wait for point availability at BCV if there's still a good chance that I'll have trouble booking a studio at 11 months in Oct. or Nov.. Thanks!

Personally, I would wait for BCV. We love BCV, and would not be happy staying at BWV over BCV, and it would likely annoy me each stay (we stayed at BWV once, and it was very nice, just not our preference).

Update: We decided to wait for Beach Club. I figured if I was debating so much then I must really prefer it. I'll give my guide some time to find points and if there's still no luck, we'll go back on the Boardwalk waiting list. Thanks for everyone's input!

Do you "need" the points and the membership benefits by a certain date (like for AP's with the current promo ending 1/8/18, or to book at an 11 mo window)? You didn't say what UY you were after, so I was just going to recommend being mindful that the few months before a UY turns seem to be very popular due to people looking to get "double points" and the waitlist may be long.

So, if (for example) you're looking to get member APs but are looking for a Feb UY, I'd expect to not get points until after Feb 1 if you don't get on the waitlist in November.

Also, it might help knowing that for Beach Club, 27% of all contracts have a Feb UY where as only 5% have a Sep UY, etc. That might help give you some idea of how long your wait for BCV might be.

Borderline impossible. I'm looking for a May trip, and they book up at 7 months on the day. Luckily, I'm an owner at BCV, so I'm all set.

We don't really need the points by a certain date, although I am 7 months pregnant and I'd love to get things set before the baby arrives. We will most likely book our first trip for next fall, but we shouldn't need these extra points for that trip. We are looking for an October UY. I still follow some resale sites, and in the past few weeks I've seen 3-4 BCV contracts with Oct. UYs. The problem is that since there is no waitlist, then Disney doesn't know that I'm looking and may not exercise ROFR on any of those contracts. :(
