Please no flames! Just trying to figure out what my options are.

We have a room booked for a trip near the end of February. There are 5 of us (2 adults, 3 kids (10, 6, and 5)). My sister is wanting to come down the last 2 days of our trip and run the Royal Family 5K. She's looking for someone to come with her, but so far hasn't had any luck. If she comes by herself, we were wondering about her just crashing with us. That would put us over room capacity, though. I thought about changing rooms for the last couple days of our trip to accomodate her, but I've already got our other room booked and not sure if I can change it at this late of a date.

So, could we get away with having the extra person in our room? And would her only option be a shuttel from the airport and back since she wouldn't be able to take ME?

Just trying to think this through before we make some kind of decision.

So, what would you do?

I wouldn't do it. That's just too many people in your room (as per the fire code) and if Disney should discover what you are doing they will immediately terminate your room access and escort you from the property.

I would try pricing out another room for her. Disney resorts have attractive pricing for one adult in a room and you might discover that booking a room with 2 adults and splitting the cost is not quite the savings you would expect when compared with the price of one adult staying in the room.

Good luck with your decision and you are correct when you say that people shouldn't flame you for trying to think through this situation by asking for feedback from the boards.

These kinds of questions about violating Disney's policies are not really allowed on the boards.

She will need her own room.

She has to get a second room. She could stay at a value for < $100/night, and would have free transportation to/from the airport.

The room will be crowded enough with 5, anyway, not to mention it's not allowed.

You could get 2 connecting rooms at a value for maybe the same price as 1 room at a moderate (I'm assuming you are booked at POR?)

We are a family of six and that is just too many people for one hotel room. We travel quite a bit and even when we stay at Marriot Springhill Suites (they sleep 6) we still get two rooms. Room capacity aside, it is tight. This is your vacation that your family is spending their hard earned money on, do you really want to be cramped for a couple of nights? Not to be harsh to your sister...I'm all about helping out my family (sisters and brothers), but not at the expense of my own family.

You are correct, she would not be able to use ME, so that would be an additional expense. Put that amount towards a room at a value resort and then she can use ME.

Thanks for all your advice.

Just an fyi - we have no intention of doing something that would get anyone in trouble, we just are not lucky enough to get to frequent Disney often enough to know much about the policies.

The stinky thing is that if we'd known about this a few days ago, we could have gotten a suite at ASMu for only $120 more than what we're paying. But after today, it'll be more than $300. And a room for only her is over $500 at a value. Bummer.

:sad2:

Have you called and talked to a CM to see what they can do to help you? I've found that I'm usually able to get better deals by calling because of them searching for the best possible deal for me. Especially if you explain what's going on and how your plans have changed, they will do all they can to accommodate you. Good luck!

The cabins at fort wilderness accommodate six people if you can't find anything else. And fort wilderness is a really fun place to stay.

It is not just Disney. Any resort/hotel has room occupancy limits based on exiting in case of a fire. This is due to the size of the corridors, exit stairs, and walkways to grade, if and when a fire occurs.

All hotels have a room occupancy limit established by the State or Local Fire Marshal's office, who follows the federal fire protection code (NFPA).

So if you exceed the room occupancy limit, it is not JUST a Disney policy. It is a fire protection code that the owners of any particular building must adhere to nationwide.

And also did you book your current room with the expired discount? If you call back you may be able to keep the expired discount with a room at a different resort. This happened to me when I booked with free dining. The promotion had already expired and I found out that my aunt was joining us for part of our trip and we could no longer stay at POFQ without getting another room. When I called back they still were able to do the free dining at a different resort even though the discount was expired. The same might work for you. Good luck!

Quite honestly, I would not want another person to crash with me on the last two days of the vacation so she can run in the marathon. This is your family vacation and she would be really infringing on your last couple of days. I just came back from a big family trip and those last days were for getting things done we hadn't been able to fit in yet. So we had specific things we wanted to get done. We did have two family members join us just for a day in the parks and they felt left out because we had our plans pretty well set. And we felt badly because we couldn't do the things they wanted to do. Also, if your sister is doing a run, she's going to have to do her own thing so she's really not going to be able to be with you guys all that much. I'm not sure of the schedule of the run but it might interfere with your kids' normal wakeup routines. Just things to think about. She's much better off with her own room and I think you will be happier as well. I wouldn't even recommend the cabins or the All Star suites just because of sharing accommodations with your different agendas.

They may not be the same. The fire code could say maximum 6, Disney could choose to say maximum 4 based on having 2 beds in the room. They don't have to allow the maximum, they just can't go over.

You may be able to change your whole reservation using your current discount (even if it's expired) to a larger accomodation. You might want to call and see what WDTC can do.

Try Travelocity, Expedia, Hotels.com, etc. Last spring break when we needed two extra days Disney had no values available and the only moderates were over $300 a night. We ended up reserving a value through Expedia for $69 per night. It's worth a try.

Check the timing of the marathon-- some start super early. She may want her own room instead of a suite if you all don't want to be woken up before the sunrise.

they will immediately terminate your room access and escort you from the property.

"Escort you from the property?" Where do people get these ideas?

I'm picturing in my mind a couple of Disney suits walking a family to the edge of the property and pointing off into the distance as the family walks away.

LOL

Yep, the proverbial "perp walk", presumably without the handcuffs.

I don't think so. Not exactly the Disney way to treat guests. The amount of mis-information on these boards is quite suprising at times.

LOL
