We are going on a cruise in May 2012 and want to do three nights in WDW afterwards. We have enough points in our dinky little contract to afford either 2 MK view studios for our party of 8 or a Lake view 2 Bedroom. My family of four would probably be doing park things while the other family of four going with us may or may not.

While we'd probably use the kitchen if we had it, it's not a deal breaker if we don't. We all do get along fine as we've traveled within DVC alot so sharing space is also a non issue.

Just curious as to what you guys would choose and why. I always get such great advice from the boards.

I would do the two bedroom lake view for the space and so your group can spend some time together when your family isn't in the parks. Plus then you have 3 full bathrooms for the group instead of 2.

I'd go with the 2 bedroom lake view. Personally, I'd much rather have the extra space than the view. We're not in our rooms much and we don't really care for the view of Wishes from the Contemporary. If Poly had a DVC resort and you were in the same situation then my response would be opposite.

If the other family will be utilizing the room then the 2 bedroom makes sense. Since you guys aren't using the room during the day then the view sounds like it's more for Wishes than anything else AND you may or may not be in your room when it happens anyways.

DISCLAIMER: We've never stayed at BLT but we have toured around there and the lake view is gorgeous.

Just my $0.02.

This completes our tour of WDW DVC resorts once we stay here. I agree with the view being nice as we've seen lots of pictures.

I'd pick the 2 bedroom. We went with another family and got a 2 bedroom and it worked out great because you have your own room, but you also have a space to share and hang out.

I would stay in the 2 br. You have the living/dining area and kitchen as well as 3 bathrooms. I loved the 2 br at BLT we stayed in last year!

I'd get the two bedroom villa for the space. Or you could try to get VWL instead and save some points.

While saving points would be nice - we really want to try BLT for a short stay (IE not a whole week) since it uses more points than our home resort.

The other thing is that 3rd full bathroom in the 2BR at BLT ... with 8 people that can really cut down on the time needed for morning and bedtime routines.

You can see the fireworks from the elevator lobbies on the higher floors or from the Top of the World Lounge (it's still open to DVCers and their guests staying at BLT, right?) so to me the extra space trumps the MK view.

I'm the odd one out..I would do the studios. We have traveled quite a bit with family/friends in tow and when we roomed together we always wished we had our own space at the end of the day. Plus, if you have young kids, I bet the MK view would be worth it. :confused3

I would pick the 2 bedroom and request a low, even numbered room. You might luck out and have an awesome view of wishes from your balcony like we did! :thumbsup2

Another vote for the 2BR lake view.

We have stayed both lake and MK view. We enjoyed them both, but have decided as long as TOTWL is still available for DVC members staying at BLT on points, we would rather save the points.

We have a 2012 trip where we were going through similar scenarios. We have finally decided to book a dedicated 2BR lake view. We specifically want the dedicated because it provides 2 queen beds in the second bedroom and the layout appears it will be slightly better than the lockoff where the 2nd bedroom has a galley area.

I agree with DizFan, the dedicated 2 BRs at BLT are awesome! No need to spend the extra points on MK view. The TOTWL is awesome if you do not get a room with a direct view of the MK.

I'm with you. I was surprised to read that I/we are in the minority.
My kids are older (17 and 13) and I would still want to the 2 rooms.
For me, 8 people in a 2 bedroom is still a lot and enough togetherness.
We travel often with our families and always do a 3 bedroom (we have a 3 bedroom T/S in Orlando) and doing a 2 bedroom at BLT for 4 of us next month and moving over to GV at SSR when the rest of the family arrives.
If it were me, I'd book the 2 studios, standard view since you say your family is out at the parks all day. If the other family is paying, they can decide what view they would like otherwise, whatever you decide should be fine with them.

Good luck and let us know what you end up booking.

If BLT is not your home resort I would plan on the 2 bedroom LV. It is rare to be able to get a MK view or standard view if you don't own there, especially if you are looking at needing 2 studios.

2 bedroom Lake View!!! It's so nice to just relax with friends in the room, sharing drinks and stories at the end of the day while the kids snooze/play/watch TV.

Count me in. I would prefer a room (no matter the size) not to be shared with others.Too many different personalities and togetherness. I would love for them to go, but.. you know.

most of the time would say go for the studio.

but blt studio is tiny - especially for 4 people.

while the 1 and 2 bedroom are BIG.

would go for a lake view then
high as possible, even number room on north side.

or south side - you can't see the MK fireworks - but you can see the Epcot fireworks from this side - plus you might be able to see the EWP from the south side.

besides most of the time you will want to do the TOWL for the fireworks - it is definitely the best.

If you go for the 2 bedroom lock-off/non-dedicated option, you essentially have a 1 bedroom + studio, with an area you can close off in the evening and separate doors if you want to come and go at your own pace while still having some place to hang together when you like ... it just means you trade a bed for a pull-out sofa, which is what you'd be getting in a studio anyhow.

I agree. We're talking about BLT studios for 4 people in each. I would definitely go with the 2 bedroom this time!
