WWoHP wayyyyyyy underestimated??

The execs who made this aren't worried at all. In fact, I'm sure they're filling up the Hufflepuff Prefect bathtub with the millions (ok maybe just thousands, I'm not quite sure) of dollars they made on opening weekend alone, and then rolling around in it! This place is a cash cow for sure. And I think those of you who are doubting its lasting power are going to be surprised. There's a certain magic about Harry Potter that not even Disney can touch.

I couldn't agree more with what you said. I'm a die hard Disney girl who has been to US before but just didn't find it something I had to do year after year like Disney. But now that Harry Potter is there there I suddendly can't get enough of HP and IOA. We now have plans to spend a day at IOA in December when we are at Disney next.

I think one thing that HP has that Disney doesn't is that WWoHP is an entire immersive experience inside one specific place. Even Disney doens't have that.

Metro West:
I am sure there are many out there who "resent" Potter bacause Disney didn't do it. However, I'm not one of them. As I noted earlier I had no interest whatsoever to begin with, and were Potter at WDW I would probably wander over once, see three roller coasters I don't want to ride, gifts I have no interest in--and then not go back. And if I ever find myself back at Universal, I will certainly have a look at the Wizarding World.

Just trying to point out that there are many like me who have no interest in this Potter thing and who are somewhat puzzled at the hype and frenzy.

But folks got all worked up over Star Wars and Star Trek so I suppose the phenomenon is nothing new.

I have no doubt that Disney will have no where near the crowd Universal had Friday and will continue to have for quite a while. The problem is Disney lovers seem to think Disney is the only theme park operator who can create a long lasting attraction. I find it amusing that some people think HP will fade away because Universal did it. However...if Disney had built the WWoHP it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread and no one could ever compete with them. I doubt seriously Universal would have spent the money to invest in a "flash in the pan" series so like it or not, HP will be around for a LONG time to come.
The average attendance at all Disney parks per day is 125,000. Universal had nowhere near that on Friday. There will never be a day where more people go to Universal than Disney. It's just not possible.

I'm in the same boat as you...just a casual fan and I want to see the area. But...I don't see why HP doesn't have the staying power of Star Wars or any other franchise Disney has access to. I see posters who think HP will flop and not last. I think it will last especially if the WWoHP is expanded over the next few years.

I know that...I was saying the crowds on Friday will not happen at the Fantasyland unveiling. I'm not talking about the annual attendance.

Yes, but that is spread out among how many different parks?

Personally no interest in neither the HP books nor movies (or any of the merchandise), but I hope WWHP is massively successful and drives a lift in revenue for USF so they can improve the existing attractions in the parks, and build new non-HP rides.

For now, or the next six months, I have no interest in partaking of the general chaos and mayhem spawned by HP. Certainly interested in seeing it some day, but only with passing interest.

I think that if something is fun then it's just plain fun and will attract people.

Look at some of the attractions at WDW for example. I doubt that most people are big fans of the Tower of Terror movie but the attraction seems to do well. There are people that don't care about Aerosmith but like RnR Coaster. And so on.

Besides I suspect that the Harry Potter thing will stick around long after the books are finished. I can see the books becoming classics over time.

Exactly. I was not familiar with TOT movie, but that had nothing to do with me wanting to ride the ride and go through the queue. From the pics and videos I have seen online I think the WWOHP looks like an interesting enough place for people to want to visit long after people have forgotten about the movies- if that ever happens. Remember Star Wars has been insanely popular now for over 30years and look how many flock to Star Wars Weekends.

Well the TOT movie was made after the ride and it was only a mediocre TV movie at that....the ride is really a unique story based on what could be part of the Twilight Zone tv show franchise, so not really be comparable.
