i posted all over the ww boards, and got no response. so i'm coming to my wish buddies for help. my family is going out for japanese food tonight, hibatchi style. i looked on the online resources on the ww site for japanese food, but it says stuff like "2 slices chicken" then doesn't tell you how big (oz would be better! i can guestimate that!). i also checked dwlz, and she has a few things

Tempura (Batter-fried Shrimp & Vegetables)
3 large shrimp & vegetables (320 cal/18 g fat/25 g carbs) 8
1 shrimp only (60 cal/4 g fat/3 g carbs) 2
Teppan Yaki (Steak, Seafood & Vegetables), 10 oz serving (470 cal/30 g fat/15 g carbs) 12
Teriyaki Beef, 4 oz serving (350 cal/25 g fat/4 g carbs) 9.5

now, i figure i'm going to get the chicken and shrimp combo on the hibatchi. i guess that's like teppan yaki steak/seafood/veggies? just i'm having chicken instead of steak?

i saved up points today, so far only having used 2.5 and i'm gonna have another couple for a snack soon, plus i just earned some aps. my target is 20, plus i got 4 aps, plus my new week of flex just started today (so i can use a few if necessary). so if i estimate 12 for the chicken/shrimp/veggies, does that sound right? i'm planning on a cup of white rice (4 points) and if my dad orders shrimp tempura, having one of those (2 points). that would total out to 18 for dinner total by those estimations. and i'd be just fine for today. oh i forgot, they give us a cup of that soup, and a small salad as well. those are no more than 1 point each though.

i just don't want to blow it thinking things are less than they actually are! just wanted to know if anyone else had any idea on japanese food points. thanks guys, i really appreciate it!

nobody's eaten japanese food on ww? man. alright, well, i've got about an hour before we leave. so hopefully someone else might come and check the boards that can help. :)

Hi there,
It isn't that no body hasn't eaten Japanese food on WW's, but rather there are times of the day when there is not as many people at home posting, especially weekends. This site doesn't get the traffic that the WW's boards get. We are a smaller, more intimate caring group, than most weight loss bulletin boards. Unfortunately, it also means less posts during some times of the day and week.

You basically have to go armed with what approximates are. Guestimate and move on. Don't stress about it before or after. No guilt, just move on. So what if you under-estimate anyway. As long as you are making a big conscious effort to portion control and mark the points the best to your ability, you will loose weight. Chicken and shrimp are low in points, so your doing well there.

Another way to do it, rather than looking at the points for Japanese, is to just break the meal down. That's how I would do it for hibatchi.

Guestimate how many oz of chicken (1 point per oz)
Guestimate how many oz of shrimp (1 point per 2 oz)
Give a few points for the oil used
Veggies are free
Rice is 4 points per cup

This will give you a more acurate account of what you are eating in my opinion. Try not to make it more difficult than it needs to be. I eat out at all types of restaurants, many times a week. I loose weight most weeks (until recently with vacation and holidays).

Hope you have a wonderful time tonight. Enjoy!

hey melanie, thanks! i know the board can be slow at time, and i understand that that's why no one was responding, but i was just hoping! no harm meant :)

and i ended up doing great! i think i may have overestimated, but i'd rather over than under. it was about 3 ounces of chicken and 2 ounces of shrimp, so that's 4 points. i figured the whole "entree" section to be 9 total. then i had halp a cup of rice for 2, and have a cup of japanese noodles for 2 (that came up in ww online). had a small piece of shrimp tempura for 2. soup i added 1. other than this meal, i only ate 5 points the rest of the day. so i said yes to the free scoop of ice cream that came with dinner :) 3 more points there, and that's good enough for me!

marcia - Sorry, just saw your post. Was going to help, but it looks like you did great! A+ for planning/preparation and execution. Sounds like you had a great, satisfying meal.

Good for you! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Glad you did well. Way to go! I bet you it was super yummy. Hibatchi is always a very low fat way to go!
