Wrong names for rides you or people you know INSIST on calling them

A few of our improper sayings:

Pooh ride
Snow White ride
Peter Pan ride
Tea cups
Cindy's (for CRT)
Mexico Ride
Norway Ride
The race cars (speedway in MK)
Thunder Mountain
MGM
Disney (for WDW)
A bug's life (for ITTBAB)
The Muppets (for their 3D show)

We are guilty as well!

Although not anymore, I used to call Spaceship Earth, the Big Ball or the Siver Ball.

My husband calls Philharmagic, Phil'm'armagic. I correct him everytime but he refuses to change. Of course, he insists on calls Philidalphia, Philidal'th'ia! That should explain some about him! :sad2:

I am guilty of a great many name changes at Disney. I say, People Mover, Teacups, The Mexico and Norway Rides and I still sometimes refer to Stich as Alien Encounters. Also, I am glad I heard someone else refer to Dinosaur as Countdown. I just have a hard time changing from what a ride was originally known as - or at least what I originally knew it as.

Honestly people it is Disneyland Resort or if talking about the park Disneyland Park.

You had ought to hear all of the name's Disney's California Adventure gets called.

We call Mission Space Mission Spew. DW says if she ever sees Gary Sinise she is going to slap him.

Come on!!! He gave you every opportunity to not ride the ride. Spare Gary!

Dh and I are in our 2nd year as Florida Resident Annual Passholders, and we just learned during the last trip that "the giant golfball" at Epcot is Spaceship Earth. Yeah, we've always called it "the giant golfball."

When my friend and I were there in April, we heard a 4 or 5 year old bay call ToT "Terror of Tower" as we drove by on the bus. We got the giggles from it, and have called it that ever since:)

Just got back - and my brother-in-law continually referred to RnRC as "Rock & Roll Roller Coaster" (I don't recall if this one was on the thread anywhere). We never corrected him, but we always and often referred to it correctly as Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (though we left off the "starring Aerosmith" tag.) I guess he thought we were saying it wrong or were shortcutting the name because saying "Roll" twice in a row was too hard.

Fast Pass was called many things incorrectly, but Speed Pass was the most convenient. I never could remember Universal's name (Express Pass), nor did I care to try to remember how each park referred to that concept. (BTW - last time at Universal - in 2003 -you could buy an Exprtess Pass Plus for $25; this time it was $37.50!)

My husband says, "Can we go to the Rain Tree to eat?"
He means Rainforest Cafe. I say, "Isn't that a Shampoo?"

Then he'll say, "There's no wait at the Runaway Train. Let's go!"
He means Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Then he'll say at MGM, "Remember the time we ate at Mamma's? That was so funny having her get after us about manners at the table."
Now this one really confuses me, because he means the "50's Prime Time" restaurant. But I always think he's starting to talk about Mamma Melrose's Italian Restaurant.

Now here's a funny one. He says at Animal Kingdom, "We saw all the animals on Calimari Safari." I have to admit, it sounds better and I can say it better, but it's still the wrong name for it! Ha Ha :earseek:

Now my husband is a smart guy. Got all A's in school and never opened a book! You've heard of that type. Well, I married one! But names of Disney things, he just isn't paying attention and doesn't care if he gets it right! Ha Ha
Ahhh, but we love him!

I love this thread! :) Let's see...

I never realized that they officially "changed" Disney-MGM Studios to just Disney Studios. I still call it MGM.

Dixie Landings will always be Dixie Landings. Why change the name and confuse people who didn't know they changed it?

When I was younger, I used to call Spaceship Earth "The Big Ball."

I still call the Tomorrowland Indy Raceway "Grand Prix Raceway."

Does anyone here remember when MK used to have those cart-like things attached to the cable wires overhead taking you from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland? Whatever happened to those?! I was there this past summer and just noticed they were gone, but I saw the building for them in Fantasyland. I used to call those "Sky Carts."

MHTP is the "Teacups."

Oh, and I get really angry when people refer to MK as "Disney World." It makes you seem like the only thing you think is in WDW is the MK!

The PEOPLE MOVER! I think it's called the Tomorrowland Transit Authority or something? My family calls it the people mover.

I'm not sure why, actually... >.>

It's one of our favorite rides in MK.

It drives me absolutely CRAZY :headache:  :crazy2: when people call Walt Disney World . . . Disneyland!! It was named Walt Disney World for a reason!!! Any don't be calling it Disney World either . . . it's WALT Disney World!!!

For nostalgia reasons, we still (and always will) call the TTA in Tomorrowland, The People Mover. My son went on it (when it was called The People Mover) on his first trip to WDW when he was 4. He was sooo freaked out when he thought we were going ON Space Mountain, not just through it!

I crack up when people ask me if I'm going to Disney Land again. I have never been to Disney Land and they know that I'm going to Florida, doh! Then there are those people that ask me if I'm going to The Magic Kingdom, when they mean WDW, aaagggghhhh! Oh well, I guess there's no teaching some people.

So I know that people call TTA "the people mover", because it was the WEDway People Mover. However, my family always called it "the people stopper" after one trip where we rode it and it stopped about 10 times due to "malfunctions." So to us, it became "the people stopper" and that's what it always will be!

My dad calls the Haunted Mansion "the Ghosties," and he's been calling it that since I was a baby. I still remember talking to my best friend about her vacation to WDW when we were about 4, and she was telling me how she loved the HM. I remember saying indignantly - "It's not called the Haunted Mansion, it's called the Ghosties!" We fought about it for a long time, and when I told my mom about how my best friend didn't even know what the Ghosties was called, she gave my dad a *look*, but he thought it was hilarious!

My DH get's really peeved when I call Ohana "Ohana's". He says it's just Ohana. When I say Ohana's, he say's "It's not an Irish Pub!"

My dad always used to call BTMRR "Big Rock Candy Mountain" and so that's what I thought it was really called until I was old enough to pay attention to what the "real" name of the ride was. I still call it that though out of habit!

to me the TTA has and will always be to me the wedway even though TTA is shorter and easier to say i still like calling it the wedway

Just bumping, so that I can subscribe to the thread. Can't seem to find another way to do so.

When I worked at the Disney MGM Studios, most every guest called "The Magic Kingdom" "Disneyworld" and everything else by their correct names

I still call Epcot EPCOT Center, and sometimes call Spaceship Earth "The Golf ball" because when I call it SSE I usually have to follow it up by saying "You know, the Golf Ball?"

I also used hear lots of guests mispronounce the word "Armageddon" when they had the making of Armageddon exhibit at The Studios "Agamemnon" "Archimedes" "Ag Demon" "Ag De Mon Mon" "Armah jeh don" and that was just the American tourists!

I have heard Fantasmic called "Fantastic" and "Fantasia" and "The Boom"

The Great Movie Ride called "Mulan's Castle"

I was frequently asked where [insert Universal studios ride] was located.

One I was asked by a gentleman with a southern accent "Where's the Rats at?" ( I thought he said rides) but he said "No! The RATS! Fer tha kids! Like Mickey, Dopey, $hi**y" (while holding his four year old)
