Cant believe this. On hold with Expedia. Just realised my sons names is wrong on the booking i made on Sunday. He has 2 middle names but his second middle name is showing as his surname. I am absolutely positive I entered it correctly as I always have to think about the extra name. Dont think Expedia believe me. Praying its ok and don have to pay anything. Has this happened to anyone before?

Still on hold. Gettin really worried now. They said they have spoken to US Irways who have put a note on the reservation for check in. That worries me as I would like to see it online. Now they are speaking to American Airlines as a codeshare flight and thats who we are flying with. Been on hold forever and dont know if they are even still there! Disaster. Dont know how much longer to hold on because surely they would have come back to say they are still trying. But if I hang up will have to go through it all again.

Yes, it happened to me some years back but it was directly with the airline and I'd entered my name as it appears in my passport. I have a double barrell name. The system didnt' recognize the special characters and ran the second half of my name onto my surname. I phoned and got it sorted out. When you book flights you only need to put first name and last name. I now type my name as one without the hyphen having learned my lesson lol

Stay on the phone until they do it. They should sort it for you without issue.

Totally devasted. American Airlines wont change and Expedia say I have to cancel ticket with no refund and rebook. Flight £200 more so this would cost me £825. Unbelievable. I honestly want to cry.

Its even worse.

I will lose the whole £625 and then have to rebook at £825. I honestly cant believe this is right. Please, if someone has any idea what I can do, please let me know.

They said they will get a manager to call me back but I have to go to work now.

Can you shop for your own flights taking your custom elsewhere?

Don't admit guilt demand right up front that something be done!

It can be done as outlined in this document, https://www.aa.com/i18n/agency/Booking_Ticketing/Ticketing/Name_Change_Restrictions.jsp#inc
See major name change.

I too put down my name wrong on the booking with virgin I put my first and middle name in the first name field. When the e-ticket was mailed out it looked like this "firstnamemiddlename" with no space. When I called up the agent said that this was ok and I had fill in all the check in forms the same way as it look on my ticket.

I booked codeshare through AA. I found their US office to be incredible in terms of excellent service and helpfulness when BA recently botched our return flights.

Don't mess with the European office.

From the UK TOLL FREE this is the number I use and takes you straight through to their Houston (I think) call center 0808 2389847

In fairness it's probably cheaper to temporarily change his name by deed poll and then just change it back...

Tongue in cheek of course ;)

It's appalling customer service though - do you have any proof you entered the name correctly?

Funny, but thats what people at work suggested. Certainly alot cheaper than a new ticket. No sure my husband would be very happy!

So an Expedia manager go back to me and he said it does appear that there is some kin of computer glitch which filled me with hope but then immediately said they were passing to their technical department to check. He said if they find its their fault they will sort it out. I reiterated that I definitely entered it correctly. But at the ned of the day I cant prove it but I know I did. After all I do know what his name is!
I know I shouldnt feel sorry for myself but just a bit gutted as I htough I got a good deal. For what this is potentially now going to cost me could have flown direct!

Well you may not be able to outright prove that you entered his name correctly BUT you can call upon them to be reasonable in accepting your story, based on the fact that (if I understand it correctly) the system has dropped the surname off and used the second name entered as the surname(?) NOBODY in their right mind would put in a middle name and forget to enter a surname.

Let us know what happens.

Lol, at the Deed Poll. Clever, but what a hassle for something you didn't do wrong! I think from now on I'm going to take screen shots of my booking pages just in case :scared1:

Fingers crossed you get this sorted without cost.

I dread it every time I book, I get Karen to double check every spelling and date, I then triple check everything before pressing the buy button.
On Sunday when I booked the flights from San Juan to Tampa I had already had a drink. One rule I have is never book anything with alcohol inside me but I knew they had to be booked immediately or the price would rise. Everything worked out OK and they have risen twice sice I booked Sunday but still a worry booking after a drink.

I found Expedia very uncooperative after my Mum passed away, they would not refund her fare, even though 4 of us were still going. They just said no refunds under any circumstance. I emailed the head office of the airline in the US and they got Expedia to refund me and sent me a lovely email with their condolences. As Lee said try the airline direct if Expedia wont help.

Oh heck, I remember you posting about that! Were they not the ones who replied stating that it was due to your error .... (as if you'd taken your mum out on purpose )??

I still say phone the US office. The difference between the EU office and the US office of the same airline for me came down to "Sorry ma'am" (Europe based) to "Oh for sure! What can we do to fix this for you?" (USA). It's called staff training, with particular emphasis on customer service. Give them a try. The number I posted is, I believe, a 24 hour number so you can ring any time.

Thank you.

The reason I am certain I am right is every time I book a flight ticket I read all the information back to myself aloud. Every name, every date of birth etc so I just know it wasnt me. I know the consequences if you get something wrong. Although to be honest I never realised that an error like this could cost over £800. I assumed there would be an admin fee involved, but £865, seriously. I just really hope Expedia do agree its a glitch.

I havent told my husband. I would have but he has left his mobile at his mums. Now I am thinking I wont mention it until I have an answer as I dont want to upset him also. Thank goodness for these boards where people understand.

Oh no - poor you. I hope you get somewhere with the US phone number.

Have to say, I had a terrible incident with Expedia in the past and vowed never to use again, their CS is terrible, one of the worst I've come across!

Fingers crossed for you - as you said, you got such a good deal initially!

Hi if expedia get back to you and still want to charge contact the airline direct - you may get lucky and find someone who is helpful.

I made a error in our holiday booking to tenerife for xmas and I was so scared to phone as I knew my great deal had been a due to glitch and was only available for 10hrs before being pulled (4 adults SC for 10 days on 23rd dec for a total of £1050.)- But the TC rep on the phone was great and changed the error for free. (wanye your right I booked that one after my friday glasses of wine - but I knew it would be gone by the morning:rotfl2:)

Good luck hope they sort it for you.

When my mum booked up for me and my friend to go to Florida this August, she entered my friends surname wrong- she wrote our surname lol!! So she phoned Travel city direct and they changed it immediately. My friend has two middle names and was sure they were on her passport. Sure enough, when she got home she realised the middle names weren't on the passport so I has to call again to change this.

Both were changed with no problem or hesitation at all.

OP, I hope you get this sorted, £865 is ridiculous... All to change a name!!!!

I have just got home and gone into my computer history. I have found the traveller information page which has my sons correct name and surname. Thank Goodness, least I know I am not going made. I have taken every screen print imaginable with times. It clearly shows the date and time as SUnday 2nd Feb. However that shows in my history and when I click into it it shows correct page but date and time not on there. If Expedia refuse to believe me, how can I get this file to them. I doubt they will want to come to my house to check my computer:rotfl2:
Relieved but not out of the woods yet. I just new I entered it correctly.

Glad you found some proof.
I sent a screen shot to Monarch last week when they booked me into wrong hotel. I attached it to the email I sent them. Their customer services replied saying I had to ring them to get refund, couldn't do it by email. I went to their Facebook page abd warned people about them booking wrong hotels and it was sorted in no time by email.
Alot of people are finding social media works better than dealing with customer service depts.

I just told my husband what happened. He is still worried that they wont honour it. Is there anyway that they cant. I know it seems obvious that they have to change it but will be worrying until they do.

So called Expedia at 9am this morning and didn't even need to tell them about my internet history as they admitted a syste error at their end straight away. What a relief. They have rebooked ticket for my son. :cool1:Cost today was £1031!
So a stressful 24 hours but feel very happy now. You get to a point where you start to doubt yourself.

Will always take screen prints at every part of booking in future and not use middle names!!!
