My DD has a Vera Bradley wristlet and I have a small wallet on a string, literally enough room in either for a cell phone, a couple of cards, and maybe a chapstick. Is that going to have to be checked by security? I know I've check my small camera bag before, but it was way more roomier!

Yes. All bags go to bag check unless you can get them into a pocket to the point where it will not be obvious you are carrying a bag.

Yep, she'll have to go through bag check. I have a small camera the size of a pack of cards, that has a form fitting carrier that I put on my belt. It obviously can't hold more than a camera....yet they ask me to open it every time, and I do have to go through bag check, even though I don't have any other bags.

Yep - I've seen a lot of people turned away by security for trying to go through the no-bag-check area with small wristlets like that. EVERY bag, no matter the size, must go through the checkpoint.

Does the bag check apply to pockets too? My husband wears cargo pants everywhere. Last time we went we had a stroller still so everything was in there, this time we are stroller free and trying to take in the least amount of stuff as possible. He will undoubtedly have granola bars in his pockets for our 6 year old who NEVER stops eating. Will he have to get his pockets checked since they are likely to be pretty full?

Nope- just bags. Overfilled pockets are A-ok! ;)

They have stopped guests with stuffed pockets on their cargo pants/shorts from time to time. The security officer posted at the no bag entrance will just direct the guest to the bag line.

That cracks me up that a wristlet is checked but not an over filled cargo pants pocket. That is why I don't get why people feel safer with all the extra security.

Yesterday I went into the city for Maker Faire. I'm so used to getting everything checked everywhere and not being allowed to bring things into places that I just left our bags in the car. Turns out they weren't checking people at all, it was SOOOOO refreshing. I'm going back next year just because of that. There are so many things that I don't go to anymore because I'm tired of being treated like a criminal.

So I guess sometimes it's dangerous and sometimes it isn't ;)

I guess we will be prepared either way.

Don't know about cargo pockets, but, have worn a light jacket with a big kangaroo pocket, that zips, and get stopped by security to take a peek inside. Didn't have to go thru bag check though. This is fine with me.

There are wallets bigger than the little bag I brought in. I can barely cram my iPhone, a few cards and a couple bucks on my "bag" and I went through bag check. It was a very easy bag check though! I just unzippered it, held it up, and they passed me through because there was no room for anything inside.
If my kids didn't bring bags to the park this trip, I would have just had my DH put it in his pocket to go through with no bags. His phone and wallet take up more space!

Thanks everyone! I was prepared to go to security! It just annoys me that these little bags are no bigger than my husband's wallet, but because I don't have the "pocket room" for it I have to go thru the line and he gets to breeze on thru!:sad2:

The only thing I haven't had to open and remove from my body was my plastic Disney water proof case (there are 2 different sizes, the smaller is about 1/2 inchs inside and the larger 1 which I have is about 1 1/2 inch open that you can buy in your resort gift shop. My small camera bag that isn't to much bigger than the water proof case I always have to remove and get checked but have never been asked to remove the water proof Disney case.

If one of has a bag and the other doesn't, we both go through the bag line. Saves one of us the extra minute of waiting for the other one.

We just came back from 11 wonderful days at the World. We do not carry anything into the parks that can not fit into my husband's cargo shorts. In ALL of our visits and years going, we have never been asked about anything in his pockets. We park hop and we were at three parks in one day and never stopped nor have I ever seen anyone stopped. I would be shocked if they did. Have a great trip

Make him put it in one of his pockets :rotfl2:

Or hold the contents and pocket just the bag. If the it's a soft bag, that is. As long as they don't see a bag, you can walk through.

One of the primary purposes of the bag check is to separate/filter the crowd heading to the turnstiles.

This is what we do too. I am only bringing my camera or phone plus my ID's & park tickets so I hold them & DH puts my wristlet in his pocket. It's not large so it doesn't look like he's smuggling canned hams (Ha ha!) in his pocket. We haven't been stopped yet.

If you arrive early to line up to enter Disneyland, will you have to get out of line to go through bag check? Is there a separate line for bag check and after getting checked do you have to get in line to enter?

Are you talking about Disneyland in CA or Disney World in FL?

In Florida, each park has it's own bag check. You will go through bag check before getting to the turnstiles. That means that by the time you get to where you line up you have already been checked.

In California there are bag checks on both sides of the plaza between the entrances to the two parks. You go through bag check and then choose which park you want to go to and line up at the turnstiles there.
