This is just amazing to me. My husband's blood sugar was an average of 250 and higher for something like 15 years. Glycolated Hemoglobin is a blood sugar test that gives the doctor an average of a person's blood sugar over the previous 90 days.

In November, his glycolated hemoglobin results were 9.2~~definitely not good, actually very bad, he was being told he was going to end up using insulin.

The end of February, after seven weeks on Atkins, his Glycolated Hemoglobin was 7.2. Not excellent, but much better. The month of December he was still out of control and that month was part of the previous 90 days of the test. That is a huge improvement.

His next test should be even better. He is so happy to finally have his type II diabetes under control. Who knew that a low fat high carbohydrate diet would put his blood sugar at such dangerous levels?

This is such a relief for both of us. He's already had two heart attacks that the doctor attributed to out of control blood sugar levels.

That is so awesome Kath. Wishing him the very best, and may the next set of results be even better :):)

Kath???

YOu did mean Low carb, high fat right? ;)

The low carb and high fat diet has brought his blood sugar levels down to normal, glo. The low fat and high carb diet they told him to eat after his heart attack ran it up to over 250 everyday :)

Wow! That's great for him! Another proof that a low-carb lifestyle is the healthiest way to live! Yay! :)

Nativetxn:

My husband last year became a diabetic due to a doctors mistake during a test. They punctured his pancreas and had to have half of it taken out. Now he is insulin dependent.

The doctors told him he could eat as much protein items as he wanted as long as he watched his carbs. They don't go by calories which astounded me, now they measure carbohydrates.
So he can eat a big steak, salad and veggies and be fine.

If you are interested check with your health insurance company they might have a diabetes class. Our insurance Aetna, had one right around the corner from us and it taught my husband a lot. And best of all it was free.

Good luck to your husband.

Lyn

YIKES, Lyn, what a terrible mistake for your husband.

We took the classes when he was first diagnosed. The diet he gave him was low fat high carb. I think they are changing the way they think now. He had to discover Atkins for himself, though. He's doing so much better now.

Kath, that is so wonderful! I know how you both must feel. I'm a type 2 diabetic and the high carb, low fat and low protein diet just about killed me. 6 breads a day, HA! I hope the docs finally accept that some people are different. LoL My best to you and your hubby. 7.2 is really good!

Truly awesome news, Kath! It's so important to stay healthy. I am really proud of you and your DH for making such wonderful changes in your life. :)
