"Wow, that's a skinny squirrel!" - January 2012 TR *Updated 05/09

The hostess seated us and when we got into the dining room we were amazed! I'd seen pictures and they always looked cool but its nothing like seeing it in person. You really do feel like your at a drive-in at night! :) We were seated in a car (luckily!) behind a woman with her daughter.

Our waiter came and took our drink orders and he said they have vanilla or cherry syrup they can add to the soda. I love vanilla coke so I asked him to put that in some coke for me. That was a bad move. When I got the drink I took one sip and that was enough for me  It was VERY syrupy and it just did not taste good. I felt bad asking him to bring me another coke that was regular this time but I couldn't drink it with the vanilla in it and he was very nice about it.

He took our orders and we both ordered the burgers with fries for our entree's and we decided to share the chicken wings for our appetizer. So we waited, and waited, and waited. We loved watching the old movie clips but eventually we realized it had been 25 minutes and none of our food had arrived yet. When our waiter did finally appear he brought out our entree's  We asked him about our appetizer and he seemed confused that nobody had broughten it out yet. He promised to go and get it and bring it out right away, so we started on our burgers.

Angus Chuck Burger with Fries

They were very hot and delicious! The burgers were juicy and had a nice flavor to them. The only complaint was that they were HUGE! I could barely get my mouth around it to take a bite :rotfl:

While we were eating we could see our waiter making his way back to our table with a tray of food, unfortunatley the food didn't make it. I didn't see exactly what happened but somehow our waiter tripped and all of the food and drinks that were on the try landed right beside our car. The pop and maybe even some of the food sprayed all over the lady infront of us and some of it got on DH as well but nothing compared to the lady in front. :scared1: She didn't appear to be really upset about it and the waiter apologized profusely to both DH and her and I felt really bad for him because he seemed really shaken up. Another waiter came by to help clean up the mess and he was joking around with us and told us that it was the other waiters first day, we could'nt tell if that was a joke or not but if it wasn't a joke that makes the situation even more sad. He must have been so nervous!

The mess eventually got cleaned up and somebody else brought out an order of the chicken wings for us. We weren't particularly hungry at this point anymore and we kind of just wanted to get dessert and go since we had been there for so long already, but we couldn't not eat them now that the waiter went through all the work to get them to us. So while DH was in the bathroom I finished off a good portion of them ;)

Chicken Wings with Honey Chipotle BBQ Sauce

They were alright, they had a bit of a kick to them but the sweetness of the honey overpowered them.

We had ordered dessert earlier in the meal and once we were done with the chicken wings dessert came pretty fast.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake (DH)

No Sugar Added Brownie Dessert (Me)

I had been craving a brownie with ice cream for a while and I was happy that I was able to get one, but unfortunatley it was kind of disappointing. It wasn't really brownie texture, more like a cake. It wasn't bad though so I ate quite a bit of it.

DH said his peanut butter cake was fantastic! And once again I wish I had listened to him and gotten what he ordered  Next I will be getting this cake instead. Our bill came and we ended up giving our server a larger than usual tip because we felt so bad for him. So we left Sci-Fi with mixed feelings, some parts of the meal were excellent (like the peanut butter cake) but some parts were less fun. But we are going back next trip to give it another try.

After leaving Sci-Fi full we weren't sure what to do next. There was one thing that I was looking forward to before our trip about Hollywood Studios so we decided to go ahead and do that and get it out of the way. We made our way over to The Great Movie Ride. We had always seen the signed pavement blocks there but I had never really payed attention to whose was actually there, and I had read somewhere before our trip that Macaulay Culkin signed one when he was younger! DH and I are both huge fans of his! :thumbsup2 So of course we had to get a picture with his block. We searched for what seemed like a really long time. I was actually beginning to think maybe it wasn't there anymore but we did eventually find it!

IMG_0246.jpg

I think it's so adorable that he signed his first name in cursive and he printed his last name! :upsidedow

I got some pictures of a couple other blocks that I liked as well.

Since we were there we of course went into The Great Movie Ride. We had a blast as usual and we got the gangster scene this time. I was actually pretty excited about that because we had always gotten the cowboy scenes before.

After that nice trip to the movies we decided to try our luck with wait the wait times at Star Tours. It wasn't bad so we hopped in line.

IMG_0258.jpg

I tried to remember what scenes we got but I only wrote down one of them, it was the Wookie planet. :lmao: This was only our second ride ever on this ride and I remember thinking that the scenes were pretty similar to the first ride we went on, but then I read online that the chances of getting the same scenes every time were very slim. :confused3 Next time I am for sure going to write down the scenes so I can keepp track, haha.

After returning from space the obvious choice is to take a ride in a super stretch limo on our way to a concert with Aerosmith! Yep, we made our way back to Rock 'N Rollercoaster. We had a blast! I think after that we kind of just wandered around looking in some of the gift shops. We were taking this day kind of slow, which was nice. We stopped in the Planet Hollywood store and took some shots of the different props.

Once we got done with that I decided to make my way to the Writer's Shop to check it out as I had never been before. It was very cozy in there and I was tempted to buy some books! I love reading and I would love to have a cafe like that in our town. I ended up only getting a tea because I needed a little caffeinated pick-me-up. It was hot so while we waited for it to cool down enough to drink we sat on a bench in The Streets of America and just relaxed and people watched for a bit.

After getting some much needed energy I was feeling a little peckish and I knew exactly what I wanted, a chocolate peanut butter cupcake! On our way to Starring Rolls we spotted these ladies:

IMG_0244.jpg

I snapped this picture and then I felt kind of bad for DH. They picked on him quite a bit and it actually started to make him feel uncomfortable. We ended up walking away without interacting with them. I know that its their act and its supposed to be fun but some of the things they were saying about DH kind of went past good natured.

Once we got to Starring Rolls I was in for a severe disappointment. It was CLOSED! :sad2: I didn't know that they closed early and I was so crushed. I had wanted to try that cupcake for months and we weren't going to be coming back to Hollywood Studios this trip. So I had to walk away from that delicious looking cupcake until our next trip.

We were feeling kind of blah at this point and so we decided to make our way back to the resort.

So we headed back to the resort with a plan of relaxation. I took a nice long soak in the tub and read a bit while DH read in bed. I think we may have even taken a nap somewhere in there :thumbsup2 Our ADR for Captain Jacks was coming up though so we headed out and made our way to DTD. This was a new restaurant for us this trip and I was hoping there would be something for DH to eat as he isn't that big a fan of seafood.

We were seated right away and I loved the decor of the restaurant. It kind of reminded me of the look of Red Lobster but it was better because it actually had a view of the water!

IMG_0264.jpg

Our waitress came by and explained our options on the DDxP and were pleasantly surprised to hear that smoothies were available as our drink options! DH took advantage of that and got a Mega Berry Smoothie, I was boring and just got tea.

IMG_0265.jpg

We decided to share an app because DH wasn't very hungry.

IMG_0266.jpg

Spinach & Artichoke Dip

This was really tasty! The chips were fresh and the dip was nice and tangy without an overbearing spinach taste.

We ordered our entree's and they came in a decent amount of time.

Chicken Ceaser Salad (DH)

IMG_0267.jpg

Baked Salmon Filet with a Caper Butter Sauce (me)

DH said his salad was alright. Its kind of hard to mess up a chicken ceaser. He wasn't really feel well this night and didn't end up eating a lot of it.

My salmon on the other hand was delicious! It was a simple dish but I still think about it to this day and drool may or may not come out! ;) I had never had capers before and I think thats what really made this dish. They went so well with the salmon and the potatoes were really good as well.

We didn't end up getting dessert and pretty soon we were on our way out of the restaurant. DH still was feeling kind of off so we decided just to go back tot he room and finish watching The Incredibles. So off we went! I think we went to bed pretty early this night due to the late night before.

So this is where the trip starts to get a little fuzzy for me. I didn't write notes for the next couple of days so I'm just going off memory and pictures for these last updates. I want to get this trip report done though before our next trip in a couple weeks. Hopefully I still have some people following along :lmao:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a refreshing night of sleep we woke up and were ready for our non-park day. We scheduled a lot of relaxation time this trip because thats what this trip was meant for, relaxing :)

We got ready fairly quickly and decided to walk over to POFQ to try out their famous beignets!

IMG_0279.jpg

IMG_0278.jpg

I took a lot of shots of POR but none of POFQ outside of the food court :sad2: It was a really nice and peaceful walk and it didn't take too long at all. Soon we were in POFQ's food court staring at these creepy decorations :upsidedow

IMG_0284.jpg

IMG_0283.jpg

We got in line and ordered and I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into those beignets! They were covered in powdered sugar and smelled delicious!

IMG_0282.jpg

IMG_0281.jpg

IMG_0280.jpg

We also ordered a bounty platter and chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon. DH couldn't wait to dig in! Oh and we also used a snack credit on a cinnamon roll. It just screamed to be eaten and looked delicious as well, so of course I had to get it, right?!

Everything was good but the real stars were the beignets! They were light and fluffy and they weren't greasy at all. Just thinking about them now makes my mouth drool.

After breakfast we waddled back to the resort. It was much too cold to swim so we decided just to stay in the room and read. Ahhh! It was so nice just to be able to curl up beside DH and read a good book.

I think we eventually fell back asleep until lunch time. We didn't really have any other plans for the day so we talked about what we wanted to do and we decided to head back downtown. We hadn't eaten at Planet Hollywood in a couple of trips and we wanted to see if they had changed any of the props out for new things.

So we hopped on a bus and made our way to Planet Hollywood.

IMG_0287.jpg

I had to take a picture of this boat because its from Forest Gump, and it says Jenny which is a nickname that my DH sometimes calls me :goodvibes

They had no problems with seating us without a reservation and we sat down immediately.

Our server came and took our orders and it didn't take very long at all for the food to come out. I guess its because it wasn't very busy. We both ordered the same thing.

New York Strip Steak - USDA choice 12 oz. strip steak chargrilled to order. Served with baked potato and fresh sautéed vegetables

It was good. It wasn't even close to comparing to the Yachstmans but it was still tasty and it was cooked to our liking. DH was feeling full so I was the only one who ordered dessert.

Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie

I would say our meal was good. It wasn't anything special but then again we weren't expecting it to be. Its the same quality of food you can get at any chain restaurant back home. I would compare it to Montana's.

After our meal we took our time looking around at the different props and going up to the different floors. From what we could see they didn't seem to have anything new but it was still fun to look at! DH and I love movies so this is always a neat experience for us. (Plus we don't have Planet Hollywood restaurants near us so we only ever get to eat here at Disney)

I think we may have wondered around downtown for a bit and then gone back to the room to relax. I know this is kind of a boring day but trust me, we needed it.

I loved reading about all your different dining experiences! Sci-Fi is definitely an atmospheric place. I see Captain Jacks all the time when I check out the menus on AllEars. That dip looks AMAZING. Looks like a lot of spinach! Yum.
