My family had planned a July 2006 cruise but now due to my sister's bone marrow transplant we are changing it to October 7, 2006 cruise. I'm shocked how much this will save us. My dad was jumping for joy b/c he's paying for half of it for all our b-day's that year. It's amazing. Now if we can just all control ourselves until then.

Oct is Hurricane season which is why its cheaper to sail then! As long as you are fine with change of ports you go to in the event of a hurricane then its a great deal! I just like to play it safe and sail in May which had great weather. The weather in Oct is really nice unless there is a hurricane.

Just beware of the hurricanes....and I am not saying that to drop your spirits! We have cruised our 3 cruises in late Sept and early Oct, and we were unlucky enough to run into Jeanne this year! Enjoy the discounts, but make sure you purchase trip insurance with a bit of that saved money ;) It was a blessing and a security blanket for us our cruise this year and I will never sail with out it, especially during hurricane season!

Also, lots of pixie dust your way for your sister :wizard:

Wishing her all the blessings for success, recovery, health, and compassionate care. And wishing all of you a calm hurricane season. You have been well informed/cautioned that the Hurricane season and school in session are the big reasons behind October pricing, I'll just add two words that ou probably already thought of but they deserve to be in print: Trip Insurance.

Enjoy, and good health to all.

Three of my six cruises were in mid-late Oct. & it was beautiful weather - no hurricanes. Although it can happen, just heed the advice of the previous posters & have a wonderful time.

May God Bless your sister & you & your entire family.

We would never go without trip insurance. My DH and I are going Sept 2005 and we definitly got insurance. My parents have cruised several times in Sept/Oct. and they have never used insurance but would never sail without it. I just hope my niece (6yo) and nephew (9yo) will have someone to play with. They both have the week off that's why we have to go on the Oct 7th cruise. They are already asking how many more days.

Thanks also for the sweet thoughts for my family. It's going to be tough year for all of us. We were informed yesterday she can't fly for a year so they had to move their Alaska cruise (suppose to be july 2005) until June 2006. That's why our disney cruise got moved.

We too sail then end of October and beginning of Novemeber becasue it is cheaper. We have always had great weather.

It's cheaper more because it is off season (kids are in school) than because it's hurricane season. Hurricane season is from June 1 to Nov 30 ... if hurricanes lowered prices then summer sailings should be cheap also. Alas, they are not because that's when the munchkins are out of school and families are vacationing. Once they're back in school prices plummet. Of course come Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year's the prices escalate again, because (of course) said munchkins are again out of school. Same with Easter/Srping Break.
