Wow, NOAA is Hot, New TS behind Fred

Nice. Hopefully, you get your wish and you are struck by a class 5 hurricane; however, it only impacts you and not the other passengers and crew members and doesn't do any harm to the ship. How's your wrist? Is it better?

(FWIW Fred is going nowhere, and the one behind it is forecast to weaken/dissipate after a few days. Obsessing over something that is less than a few days out is fine on weather forums, but here it causes needless alarm to people cruising soon who aren't as familiar with the statistics on how rarely these storms actually make serious landfall.)

First ~ no captain of a cruise ship is going to endanger the passengers or more importantly a expensive company asset by sailing into a hurricane. Captain's alter the course to avoid the worse of the storms.

Second ~ DH and I were on the East Bound Panama Canal cruise last September out of San Diego. We skirted around Odile (headed west out of San Diego then turned south) and then ran through the tropical storm that followed Odile. The waves were amazing and we totally enjoyed the wild weather. We were on the outside decks during some of the storm until the decks were closed and we were told, firmly by an officer, to go inside. We headed to our room and hung out on our verandah as much as we could. I love stormy weather on land or on water.

We actually ended up missing 2 ports due to the hurricane. Our assigned captain couldn't get join the ship in San Diego as scheduled and then the storm prevented us from stopping in the first port where he was to join so he didn't get aboard until just before we went through the canal. We had two different captains for the cruise.

I understand that hurricanes impact many lives in a harsh way when they may landfall and I feel for those people.

The reason I watch weather, is number one....I study it as part as my major in Grad school..second....I want weather on my trip! Unlike most who want sunny nice weather, I want to see storms! So it will not " drive me crazy" it's sheer excitement over the possibility there could be a system!
My family and I were on the Fantasy September,2013 cruise in Tropical Storm Karen on the Western Caribe. My son and I got sea sick to our stomachs everyone on the ship pretty much had a rough night... But I will tell you it was so much fun! We were in the movie theater and the boat was rocking and thunder was cracking ... The walk back to our cabin was an adventure it was like a fun house! We were good until we got into our cabin being closed in and on a higher deck made it rough but once we puked we were fine..., next day smoothest seas and gorgeous weather! So where I thought I would mind - I didn't it makes for a great story! And everyone on DCL was so attentive and safety is priority!
