Wow - lack of points for rent!

Wow - anyone else surprised by the lack of points to rent through the boards anymore? Why do you think that is? The new rules? People using their points more? Or are owners more hesitant to rent out than they were?

Just goes to show that most of those posting points for rent, don't post on the DIS that much.

I think that it is mostly due to the posting requirements. A lot of us who have been on the boards forever, but don't post a ton, will no longer qualify to post on the rent/trade board under the new rules. This dries up the supply of rentals. On the other hand, it probably has boosted business for one of the sponsors (Dave) who rents points, since most of the cheaper options are gone, and I would imagine that more people who can't post themselves find themselves selling their points through him. JMHO YMMV.

That's true, but while I've averaged almost 3/4 a post a day for the past 11 years, they tend to come in batches... the rest of the time I'm reading. I don't have a problem with the new rules, but I think that they may foster a lot of people posting about a lot of nothing... kinda like this thread, lol

The mods don't count posts that gripe about the rules on the R/T board. Or short responses like "I agree" or " "

But anyone who has been on the boards since 2001 should have a little experience about WDW and DVC and offer their opinions when people ask for them.

With the new rules most poeple who are not "regulars" went elsewhere and the number of for rent posts in those locations is about the same as historically existed here.

Not really!

It takes time to read posts and response if you have something relevant to say. Many of the posts add nothing of value. The new policy drives people to post anything just to keep their count up.

You shouldn't let the virtual community take over for your real life community. People send way too much time connected to electronic gadgets and forget how to have a conversation with a real live person.

i'm a long time dis/dvc board member and i agree that the number has dwindled due to the recent change in rules. I'm the kind of person that just watches the boards and doesnt post a lot but now thats changed. Now I'll post anything anytime just to boost my numbers.

Sorry, but the Rent/Trade board Moderators have posted previously that threads on these "complaining" threads don't count toward qualifying posts for Rent/Trade posting.

Since this topic has been beaten to death on numerous other threads, I am closing this one. Thank you.
