wow! Just noticed my plane has extra room!

Yes, AA took some seats out of their coach sections some years back.

Gotta love that legroom! Wish NW would do the same.

What's kind of sad is American has taken out it's "More room throughout coach" seating in it's 757s and A300 planes. They said that they queried leisure travellers and they wanted cheaper seats over more room even if it mean the tickets were 10.00 or so more than the competition. They then moved to the 757s to most of their USA leisure routes and the A300s go mostly to South American. Oh well. United has expanded seating in the front 1/2 of the coach cabin on most of their planes too.

Yes, but on United it's "Economy Plus" and there is a charge for it. In addition, that extra space didn't come solely out of the section it is in. UA crunched the rest of Economy down to a 31" inch pitch so that E+ could have 34", as opposed to AA, which (except for the A300's and the 757's) has 33" all the way through Coach.

.....the last time I was in a plane was 4 years ago. My concerns were not about how much room I had but more about just getting there safely.....

Thanks for the link to seatguru - what a great site. Disney is only a 2 1/2 hour flight for us, so not a big deal. But we will be going to Russia and this will definitely help!

Maybe I've just been lucky but I've never had to pay anything extra to get a seat in United's Economy Plus section. My loyalties are to United and I try to fly them whenever it is feasible. When I check in, I'll ask if there is a seat in Economy Plus and 9 out of 10 times there is. I'm not charged any difference for doing so.

On a recent flight from Las Vegas to Denver however, I was told that there were no Economy Plus seats available as the flight was full. It wasn't a problem and I just sat in the terminal area to await the flight. Shortly after, the United Agent called me to the desk and very kindly said that she was able to find a seat up front for me.

What makes this special is that I never gave her my name when I originally requested the seat. In order to do this, she had to look into her computer and try to figure out who I was.

Now that's what I call service.

I don't believe the standard economy seats on United are any different from those that you will see on AA, Delta or the other carriers. AA did have additional seat pitch on some of their aircraft but as mentioned earlier, they are doing away with this and putting the seats back.

United's "Economy Plus" section has been around for years and it works for them.

United is a great airline to fly.
