Trust me when I say it wasnt just State Farm.
Since you are not from around here, did you hear how Allstate treats people?? In Louisiana we now have a "hurricane deductable" Basically Allstate was charging people up to 10% of their houses value before they would pay you any money. So after Gustav there were plenty of people who did not have 20-25,000 worth of damage but still had damage and had to come out of pocket. IMHO All insurance is bad, but we have State Farm because we have an agent who will fight for us if needed. After Gustav, he was at his office with no electricity so people could file claims. That is the kind of service I want

While I can't answer for the OP I can tell you that we were paying about $36 every three months (or $144/yr) for two vehicles back in Missouri. Once we moved to FL our insurance costs $106 ($1272/yr) every month. I had a hissy fit when I learned that but the insurance agent explained that FL is one of the most expensive states for car insurance. I know the radio just read off one of those top 10 lists and Florida ranked #9 for worst drivers.

There's a lot of things that go into an individual's rate. OP may have 6 cars, or young drivers on their account. Any number of things.

I know when my Dsis moved one county over her rate dropped significantly because it was a "safer" county. Who knew?

There are greedy crooks in every type of business. Heck, look at what the banks are doing to us now.

Although, I do think that what the Katrina SF insurance companies did was extremely shady, they weren't the only ones (as mentioned above) to shaft people.

I wonder if you can research apples to apples using your own policy, find a terrifc rate, then go to your original carrier and present them with the difference and see if they match it?

I like who we have for insurance. We have AAA and they've been great to us over the years.

I also have multi-policy discounts with our renters insurance.

I was thinking the same thing-do I even PAY that much a year? NO! and I have three vehicles on my insurance, small deductibles and large-very large limits.

All the glitters is not gold. You may NEED an agent to go to bat for you someday. I would never carry insurance without an agent who I knew and trusted. Seriously!
