After taking some time to review all our insurance policies, life, home, auto, etc etc...I decided to shop around, starting with auto.
I procrastinated a while as it looked a bit overwhelming (who to call, time time time) but if you have your Dec page in front of you it is actually rather simple, especially online...

Lo and Behold, I priced out the EXACT coverage with a competitor (geico) online, (had nationwide) then CALLED to confirm the rates and then SWITCHED and SAVED myself quite a bit of money....
I was quite shocked at the difference (OVER 1500. savings) ....and it is line for line same coverage......Was told that they are #1 in our local market, have no agents and commissions and ya know what, I am
THRILLED......
was told I got their preferred rates ???(no ax or claims, defensive driver course and other stats)

So, check it out yourself, you may be VERY pleasantly surprised by shopping around!!!
Good Luck!

Now maybe that cruise and the subsequent POLY trip next year won't feel like such a splurge :rotfl2: :cool1:

Wow! We did this a couple years ago after my hubby lost his job. It really helps to keep the budget balanced.

I compared our insurance to Geico and it turned out Geico was TWICE as much as what we are paying for LESS coverage. We will stick with what we have. :)

You could do their commercial.

I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!

:cool1::thumbsup2:worship:

Yay for you!!! I have tried Geico quite a few times, never could save us any money.

Unfortunately we've had some comprehensive claims which, come to find out, ding your "report" that insurance companies pull before providing you a quote. I think this is awful, especially comp claims. For instance I had a $700 claim on a dent on my back quarter panel from, well, a guy's truck at work, but I can't prove it was his son that did it.... so I turned it in, telling the ins. agent I don't want to claim if it will hurt me in the long run. She said, "Oh no, comp claims don't have any affect on your policy.." Yeah right, won't believe that one ever again... there was something else too but can't remember what it was right at this second. Anyway, that stinks for us, but they said check back next year! Yep....will do.

Totally excited for you though! $1500 is a lot of do-re-mi!

Geico screwed me once they won't get a chance to do it again. I had to make a claim when my car was stolen after being a Geico customer for about 10 years. Well let's just say it didn't go well.
But hey it's always good to save $$ and maybe they'll treat you better than treated me.

That was going to be my first question. I have seen all the commercials and I have friend who has Geico but she has never had to put in a claim. So I was wondering if anyone had and how it had worked out for them. We could certainly use a cheaper insurance carrier but if we were to need to file a claim and had to deal with a nightmare......

Has anyone else had any experience with them?

Java--May we ask who you ended up using after Geico? And are you happy with them so far?

a1tinkfans--congrats! That is quite a nice savings! When you do the POLY be sure to let me know how much fun you have. I will have to live it through you. :goodvibes

I have State Farm and actually it's lower than most. We have been with them so long for home and car insurance that when we moved and my Dad found a problem with the leech bed, they covered it even though it wasn't suppose to be. Sometimes loyalty goes a long way even if it does cost ya a few bucks more a year. However, it sounds like you saved some serious bucks, congrats and I hope all goes well.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

That is so funny, I think I COULD do their commercial, do ya think I could get an extra discount? :lmao:!!!

One sister and a brother both have them and sis has put in 2 claims, now they were not at fault accidents, but they gave her no issues and one was with another Geico insured so they also waived her deductible as well (most carriers do that)

My BIG VENT with Nationwide was that I was with them for MANY years and with no claims and rising costs and lowering car values (for the most part), the NEW people coming into them are actually getting LOWER rates than those with the company a long time :confused3....What happened to loyalty???
Apparently, they now offer lower rates to Lure people in that are NEW and Heaven forbid they have an accident or claim, they are then charged a 45% surcharge for 3 Years!! Even canceling and then changing my coverage to their "new" policy would still be over 800. MORE than what I just got thru the new carrier.
The big difference I see is that they/G do not have agents to call, you call the toll free main number for any customer service q or concerns, so where I used to call my agent the day the policy was due and pay via phone (pure laziness on my part) I have signed up for automatic payment on a six month basis, actually using my Disney Visa (so $$ in reward dollars too:rolleyes1) (though I would have preferred paying for a year to be done with it).
With all that I saved up front AND also all that I will be saving for at least the next year (we shall see when next year, what the premium is, though from family, again no issues) I am once again THRILLED with the $$$ in MY pocket.
So, again, I say, you have nothing to lose by checking out carriers in YOUR area to see if you can lower your rates and save some of your hard earned Money!
Best of Luck to All! :wizard:

Thats interesting about a comp claim, I was told it takes 2 comp claims to actually DING your report! Be sure during your next check for a reduction, that they have your records correct.
Thanks for being happy for ME!! :cheer2:

We are now using State Farm. But honestly I haven't had to make a claim so I can't say how they are with claims. Really they can sweet as can be - but I'm paying them - so I can't say they're great yet. I have to see when I need them. That's the true test of an insurance company.

We switched to Geico almost a year ago. It saved us a lot on car insurance. The house was still cheaper with our other carrier so we left it with them.

I have been very pleased with Geico's service so far. Our daughter was rear-ended and we had no problems. It was not her fault, but they were very helpful. Before we switched I checked with many people and posted here on the boards. Although some people here did not like them, the vast majority were pleased so we decided to switch.

WOW what does your auto insurance cost? You saved more than we pay for the year.

Us too, that savings is a few hundred more than we pay for the whole year to insure 2 cars with very low deductilbe. We had to make 2 claims this year, our rates barely increased if at all (hard to determine as we had to buy a newer car but total like $5 a month). Our service was wonderful.

We have GEICO and have never had an issue. We had a claim when DD rear ended someone and her car was totaled. They paid to fix the other car, paid us for DD's car, and paid all the medical bills without any hassles. In fact, her passenger put in a personal injury claim and was paid $100,000.00. Our insurance didn't go up either.

we did this a couple of months ago- it was so much LESS for more coverage, that we had to call the local office to double check that it was right!!! 700.00 saved per year- and more coverage

that's great. We have had Gieco for about 10 yrs it's great for us always been treated GREAT:cheer2:

We had State Farm for nearly 10 years. I never had a problem with them covering a claim, but they finally dropped us after DH had a one car accident (slippery road into a ditch). We had had a couple of uninsured motorist claims over the years and they listed that as a reason that we were too high a liability.

In the end it worked out for the best. USAA is charging us less than 1/2 of what State Farm did, and their claims people are wonderful (We had a hail storm here a couple of months ago and had to claim on both cars and the roof on the house).

OP, I hope Geico works out for you. I think insurance companies are like drugs, some work for some people and not at all for others. :)
