WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Interesting thread. I've seen the commercials on TV and always wondered about the selling gold. I don't own much gold at all. Everything I have is either silver or platinum for the most part. That being said, when I was a child I received several pieces of yellow gold. I don't wear them. They're in my safe. I can't part with them for sentimental reasons. Most of the gold I received as a child was received from family who is no longer living - grandmothers, etc. I would like to pass them on to my daughter if she wants them.

I wish I had gold that I didn't care about for some extra $$$ but I don't.

so, one more time, does 14Kt 950PT mean the part of the ring that goes on finger the 14Kt and the 950pt is the prongs?

I would guess this might be worth a little more than just a 14kt, but how do I know how much??

Thanks for any help and have a great night:)

So aside from sentimental reasons, I'm wondering if it's better to sell the gold and get the money? or just hang on to the gold because it won't lose any value?

Just found this thread. I knew it was here someplace. I'll read back. I guess I want to know if it is worth it if you only have a little gold jewelry to sell. Bumping it up. Grammy

I went through my jewelry armoire last month and took out all the pieces of jewelry I no longer wore. Many were from late childhood, early teens and early college. I sold several gemstone rings (gemstones too small now for me), 7-8 bracelets, a few gold chains and a few pair of earrings. Most was 14kt, a few were 10kt and 18 kt. Total for that was $435.00.

This weekend, I went through my safe where I had put all of the gold and silver coins that belonged to my late father (my half, my sister sold hers last summer). I kept back what had the most sentimental value to me and took the rest in today. I had two gold half ounce Krugerrands, one 1 lb silver bar, and several other silver coins. Total $1200.

The first sale went to pay for DS's dental work, todays, will pay 2 credit cards (in full), 1 airline tix for DD for Christmas (our half) and something fun for me (I found a tanzanite ring over the weekend which is what promped the new sale).

I think that is all I have, but I will keep looking.

.

That sounds wonderful!
Can i ask where you sold your coins? I have a few and occasionally wonder if i should sell them, too.

I went to a local jeweler that we've used for years. My father was friends with the owner before he passed so we do most of our business there. They were also advertising in the paper that they were buying.

I sent my gold in on Thursday and they called on Friday and said they would be sending my check out. Today is Thursday and it still hasn't come. Should I be worried? Should I call them back? How long did it take for your check from USGB to come?

No, I wouldn't be. I think mine took a little over a week to get. I sent in some more items last week, they called me on Thursday & I still haven't gotten the check. I'm expecting it Monday or Tuesday.

If you haven't gotten it next week you may want to call, but I'd give it a few more days!

Thanks. I have a few more things I wanted to send in but I don't want to do it until I know that the first batch ran smoothly.

I think my check from them took a full week, so I wouldn't worry just yet. They are very reputable. They probably didn't get your check out until Saturday's mail.

I just sent off my very first batch (2 gold bangle bracelets, 1 herringbone gold necklace, 2 gold hoop earrings, 1 gold herringbone bracelet, 3 gold charms, 2 gold rope necklaces, 1 old high school class ring, 1 gold chain, and some silver. I can't wait to see what they say!

What website did you guys use? I have some silver coins, silver jewerly and a few pieces of gold I would like to sell. I also have some servering pieces that my hubby's parents gave us that we don't use, do these websites also buy them?
Thanks
Jen

I apoligize in advance if this was mentioned previously, but I scanned through most of the thread and didn't see mention of gold flatware? I have a huge case of goldware that was my moms but I don't know what it would be worth if anything. I tried looking on the pieces and I couldn't find anything like 10k or something, so does that mean it is just plated. Has anyone sold flatware or even just plated gold, I have so much of it there has to be at least an ounce even if it is plated. thanks

Wow-they just called me and offered $441.12... all for a few little pieces that I haven't used in YEARS! I'm so happy right now because this is going to be our pocket cash for our trip in December! :)

To answer the PP, I'm not sure if they accept flatwear but you can certainly call them. Their number is on their website (US Goldbuyers is who I used.)

I cleaned out the jewelry box also! $337.00 and I really didn't have much. I went to a well known, reputable jeweler in our area and was amazed to see that there were many people ahead of me for appraisal. I don't know what I was thinking, (Picture an old movie pawn shop) but it was very professional and the jewelry was weighed and cash given right away. If you have old, broken or things you will never wear that have no sentimental value this is a great way to get a little folding money! Grammy

*deleted portion of post*

Using my crappy kitchen scale, I have a little more than .5 ounce or just under 20 grams of broken jewelry. It's a mix of bracelets (I think one if 10k, the other 2 I have discovered are 14kgf, but maybe the tongue is 14k), 1 10k ring and 1 18k white gold ring. I have 5 post earrings, all starter piercing studs. I think the one pair may have 14k posts, and I'm not usre about the others. None of them reacted to a magnet.

I'm using Gold Fellow, shipping my envelope this afternoon and anticipating a small payment...better than using up room in my jewelry box.

Can someone post about using a magnet?I've been wondering how to find out if some things are gold, silver, etc without taking it somewhere since we live very far from the nearest city and I wouldn't want to mail my stuff off thinking they were gold, etc and really they were not.I know that some things have markings, but some don't or if they do I can not read them. Also which company gives the disboards a extra 10% and what about the stones?Has anyone sent their stones with their stuff and got paid for them or not? Also should I clean (at least some) the rings, etc before sending or would the cleaner react to how they test for gold, etc?I know that more than likely these questions have been answered somewhere on this board, but without looking up everypage, any help would be great. One more thing,I know some of the stones are real and some are not,but a few I am not sure about.Any help would be great.Thanks.
