WOW - I just sold my old gold........

I have several chains stamped 585 (in a diamond) from Italy...Can anyone tell me what this is?

TIA! :)

Well I havent read this whole thread but was inspired to take a couple of rings to the jeweler today. Im supposed to get a call tomorrow letting me know. One was a solid gold ring with a gold coin inset and she weighed it and wrote 5.6 next to it and the other was a 9 marq emerald ring with diamonds surrounding it. Anybody wanna guess what i might get offered?

Ok, I'm new to this thread. Who is USGB and GF? I have quite a bit of old stuff from ex husband, and would love to sell it.

Thanks!!

Wow I cant believe this jeweler only offered me 200 bucks for both of my rings. Are they kidding me? One of them was appraised at 950 dollars back in 1990 and is in perfect condition. :confused3

I always found that the local jewelers come in very low because they are a middle man and not a direct buyer like GF and USGB. The local jewelers only turn around and sell it to a major gold buyer. I would try sending your stuff into GF or USGB and see what they quote you, but it is bound to be much more. If you don't like their quotes either you can always ask for your stuff back.

USGB = USGoldbuyers.com
GF = Goldfellow.com

Both are sites that buy gold. I sold mine to GF because their turnaround time is fast and they offer a Dis incentive. But others have found USGB to have a higher payout rate, though at the lack of customer service.

Remember, an appraisal usually is for replacement value at that moment. Typically, you're lucky to receive 30% to 40% if you resell it.

Do your rings have stones in them? If you want to sell the gold only, the weight of the stones has to be deducted.

And as the PP noted, your local jeweler is the middleman. They don't refine the gold themselves--or usually don't!

USGB is usgoldbuyers.com
GF is goldfellow.com

They are two websites that have garnered good reviews in this thread.

Please be sure you do your homework before you make any decisions! :)

it isn't the "value" of the item - they melt the gold into bars. if you have stones in them, you should take them out. are they 14K or 18K or 24K? that would make a difference also

I wanted to relay my expierence thus far... I sent my gold out to GF yesterday, got a very quick response and offer of 343.45. I had a total of 22.7 pennyweight of 14k gold. They were very easy to use and called me when my offer was ready. For the heck of it I called USGB and relayed my offer and weight. They would pay 513.70 for the same! So to say the least I declined the GF offer and will send my stuff out to USGB as soon as I get it back! They phone rep at USGB was very friendly and I'm wishing I had just went with them first but choose GF because I could do everything online, my bad!

OH WOW...I just accepted a payout from goldFellow for $369, I could have gotten more from USGB!!! Too late now, but I am not going to beat myself up over it, it was doing nothing in my jewelry box, broken and unwearable...You just hear so many different stories both good and bad about both so....make a choice and be HAPPY:yay:

So I send my gold to USGB 2 days before we leave for Vegas. I called to confirm that they received it the day we left for Vegas. But you know how that goes, no time to call USGB and ask at this point. Because I think they were going to send me an email, but no access, so I figure I better call. Well the next time I thought about it was 2 days into our Vegas trip, when we were at that Grand Canyon. And of course no cellphone service there, at least for my carrier. Anywho that was on a Friday so by the time we got back to where I could use my cellphone it was too late. Soooooo had to wait until Monday morning. So yes, I found out that they did receive and estimate and had tried to contact me to let me know they wanted to send $421 and change. So, I said SOLD! :goodvibes A couple pieces were 10k and it didn't quite weigh 1.5 ounces. But for stuff that was broken and from the "ex" it worked out well. According to USGB I should have my check by Friday. :goodvibes

Yep, just got my check today!:goodvibes

Thanks for letting me know. I called USGB twice and both times dealt with very nice people, but it sounds like I lucked out. I did end up going with them, so we'll see...I'm hoping to hear from them tomorrow.

Cant wait to hear how your experience was with them! keep us posted its always good to have a 2nd option.:cheer2: :cheer2:

Overall I'm happy (and will be even happier when the check arrives soon;) ). I was offered $138.76 for the small amount I sent in.

Now to hit some garage sales on my newest quest...I've got the gold rush fever!:rotfl:

What exactly is the DIS incentive and how do we indicate it to them?

When you send your stuff to Goldfellows, you print and fill out a packing slip that you enclose with your package. Write "Disboards" on that (I did it on several spots and also highlighted it). That gets you an additional 10% on top of your offer.

HTH!
