My 6 yo DD has been misreable with a cold and cough for the last couple days and while watching her sleep yesterday I got to thinking how much my priorities have changed since having her.

Some things I have learned since she came into our lives::

Patience!!!! And lots of it.

Compassion.

Putting someone else before myself.

That a lot of things aren't as important as they seem. a spotless house, working long hours....etc.

How to really laugh and take time to do it.

How important family time is.

And how important my parents and grandparents are.

And the most important..... how much you can really love someone!!!!

Just feeling really emotional this week and had to get it out!!!!

Thanks for listening.

Melinda

What a nice warm fuzzy post. I enjoyed listening. Thanks for sharing. :D

I know what you mean. Our local country station is doing a radiothon for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and I was listening to it on the drive to work this morning. As I listened to the kids from St. Jude's tell their stories, and to the parents who had lost children, I got all teary, and just kept thinking, Oh my God! Waht would I do if that was DD (she's 6 months). It literally made me sick to my stomach to think about it - I can't even begin to imagine the pain those parents have been through. It really puts your priorities straight. I can't wait until the end of the day just so I can go home and hug & kiss her!!!

What a wonderful post. Thank you. :)

My favorite time is at night when DD has gone to sleep in my arms and I look at her. It just hits me how much I love her. It is so overwhelming and powerful. DH said he gets that way when he comes home from work and DD runs to him saying "Hi Dada!"

Piglet- I totally agree that a child definitely changes you!

Children can be so very special, and drive you nuts at times too, LOL, but always special. :) Very nice, Melinda, thanks for sharing.

So true Piglet. My DD is going on 14 and I find that every year I love her more. Watching your child grow from infant to young lady is simply amazing, even with her sometimes crabby teenage attitude. :D

I too often sit back and just stare at dd. I love seeing the kid in her and am just so amazed at how "grown up" she's getting. At 13, I wonder what my life so far would have been like without her and how my life is going to change as she gets older because it has amazed me so far. Then I get yelled at for staring at her so I have to stop.

I also wonder if her dad even realizes what he has missed - he hasn't been totally active in her life - I can't imagine missing the things I've seen her do and been there to help her accomplish.

Thanks for your replys.

Everyday I just can't wait for her to get home from school. She is so much fun and so cuddly. By the way, I try to avoid all the teenage girl threads, I just want her to stay little.
