Wow - Earthquake

I'm in downtown San Diego. We live on the third floor of an apartment complex and it shook for a good minute or two. My boyfriend and I just moved to San Diego from the east coast less than a year ago, so not to make light of an earthquake situation, but you should have seen the two of us. You would have been laughing your heads off! We both dropped to the floor and were like "okay what do we do?" "I don't know, what do you think?" :rotfl2: So we just laid there in between our couch and our bar and held hands. When it was over we started to laugh, because honestly it really did just feel like when we had a particularly rough night on a cruise ship. So we spent the rest of the hour researching what we actually needed to do in the event that an actual big, damaging earthquake was to hit near us. I'm just glad it wasn't a horrible one, and no one was hurt!

:lmao:Dont feel bad....most people that have been here for a life time still stand there or say...were having an EQ...ummmmmmm should we go ourside or dive under a table or stand in the door way...by the time we figure it all out the EQ is done and over with:rotfl2:

WElcome to San Diego by the way:thumbsup2

Be ready for some after shocks to follow through out the week....some you may feel some you may not. But you should always have preperations in order just incase the big one just strike...do you have an emergency EQ kit maid yet????

Thanks for the welcome. And we don't have one made actually, we were talking about that today! We are looking into making one this week. It just got us thinking of how unprepared we actually are! But you def. could see our East Coastness coming out today! haha I was talking to a friend and she said to be prepared for the aftershocks as well...I said knowing my luck it will happen while i'm at work and I will be stuck there!! boo!!:rotfl2:

Hubby was at the grocery store and he said some women freaked out and dropped their stuff and sprinted for the doors.

My dad lived in Santa Cruz during the "world series earthquake"...they were very very hard hit in their downtown area. Either dad or stepmom was at Safeway as it happened, and windows were breaking, things were falling off of shelves (picture being in, say, the pasta sauce aisle with heavy jars of sauce falling), etc...very VERY scary to be inside of such a store!

I can't even imagine giggling at someone running out of a grocery store during a big earthquake. Is the parking lot safer? Who knows? But at least you know glass jars won't be falling on you.

What a time for my brother to be out of town! They live in Chula Vista, and I bet their cats are very unhappy!

DH and I are from NJ....and we remeber our first EQ very well:scared1:
as for you knowing what to pack for an EQ just look in the front of your phonebook...think it's the yellow pages and there is a whole list and info with numbers in case of emergencys during the quake.

do you have a phone book???popcorn::

as mentioned in one of my posts my kitties just went into hiding and soon after came out. I talked with my friend who lives in Chula Vista and she felt it as I had.....my one son wanted me to crate the cats just in case a bigger one came and we could not catch them. Funny that my dogs did not react as my last dogs did..they were fine.

This is why sometimes I hate the DIS. You have to be so careful on here or else someone has to make you look like a total loser and blow up what you say to make it FAR worse than it's intention. Sometimes it's like all we know how to do is flame on here.

I still don't understand why I can't have a mental image of someone dropping their food and running and giggling a little. Yet, as noticed on a different thread, MANY people felt someone falling down, getting hurt, or hit was hilarious! How the hell is that better? Hahaha... dad can't have kids anymore because little Jane hit him. HILARIOUS! Jake fell down and sprained his ankle. SO FUNNY!

Not.

If someone actually got hurt, which THEY DIDN'T, then I would never think it remotely amusing. But again, no one did.

Put the dang torches away people, jeez.

Yeah, perhaps I was a little sensitive, having lived through several hundred quakes in the last month. But just like you found the image of someone dropping their groceries and running funny, I found the image of someone laughing at another's terror (a terror I've felt myself a few times since our 8.8 here in Chile) a little worthy of a headshake.

I understand what you're saying. I once said I was excited that we were going to be getting a blizzard, and a few people jumped on me letting me know that people can die in blizzards and I shouldn't be excited. ( But they didn't say it as nicely as that. )

I hope I never see someone slip on a banana peel!:rotfl: Well, if I did, I'm not sure I'd post about it here!

Sorry to hijack...

Hoping there's not too much damage from the EQ. With CAs budget problems, the last thing they need is huge structural rebuilding costs.

The nice thing about earthquakes is that when they happen, we hear from friends all over the world who are concerned about our well-being. :thumbsup2

I was napping with a migraine when it happened today. It was one of the longer ones I've been in, and the only thing here startled was the fish in our tank as the water sloshed back and forth.

Everyone, please remember to now trade out your bottled water supplies and recall where the gas line shut off valves are in your homes / apartments.

We were in San Clemente and it was the longest and strongest earthquake I have ever felt and I have lived in southern California my entire life. It seemed to go on for what felt like forever. We just kept looking at each other saying its still going on. Whoever said it felt like a ship rocking was right on. My BIL was outside and said he felt dizzy like he was going to faint. He had no idea it was an earthquake.

It was an odd one, just long and rolling, the pool water started to lap up and spread all over the lawn. It was just an odd one.

oh man! I'm glad there weren't more fatalities and damage doesn't seem to be awful considering the size of this earthquake! We are traveiling to CA in a few months and this has me a little scared! All these earthquakes are freaking me out:scared1:
