WOW! Did I pay too much for airfare!

It didn't work that way at US Airways or American Airlines, the two instances where I've had to deal with credit vouchers. The name of the passenger was a change that was not permitted (without presentation of a death certificate :().

Wow, my experience on AA in February 2006 was very different than yours. My husband and I both had small vouchers from a fare drop in 2005. We combined them to purchase a single ticket for him. This allowed us to avoid a second "over the phone" booking charge for my ticket, which we booked online. Unlike CO, AA will let you combine vouchers to purchase a single ticket.

I agree with other posters, there is no reason for the OP not to get the vouchers, if he can. I was just trying to make him aware of some of the rules he will need to follow to make sure he then gets some value out of them once they are in his hands.

The price I'm willing to pay for airfare from Boston to Florida for the 3 of us is $500 total. We've been lucky to get that airfare during the past couple of years.
This year, as it stands now, $600/person airfare + $250 car rental + $100 transfers/parking = A 22 hour drive from Boston to WDW for $500 gas and tolls.
good luck all,
Joe

We have had good-luck with travelocity....though this year we did pay about $200.00 more than last year...This year we fly Delta... 5 round trip tickets from CA to FL $1550.00 total.

My understanding was that one should make reservations as early as possible as the fares would probably rise as the departure date approached.

That doesn't mean you should buy tickets nearly a year in advance. That is almost always a bad move.

and it was great. It made the vacation feel a little longer, and my family of 4 got along great! Gotta love those Cracker Barrels along the way.
have a great trip, and I hope you do something a little extra nice with the $ you save on the flights.

I normally pay around $250 from Houston to Orlando on Continental. With them wait a while, they tend to drop their prices especially after SW comes out with their schedule. My flight in Oct started out around $350 and I kept an eye on it and just paid $220.

I had good luck this year by waiting a bit. I found it was cheaper directly through the airlines instead of the other travel sites that I usually book through for some reason. I think sometimes it's luck of the draw. When I booked ours in Feb (for our trip in April, I started pricing in Nov.) I saw fares for around $295 r/t on the weekend from California (which isn't too bad) but then I waited and checked again that following Tuesday and they dropped to $204 so I got us on United for $816 total for our family of 4. Not bad at all!
