Wouldyou ride Everest 7wks pregnant?

I haven't done EE yet so I can't say how it is. I do know that after two babies I would not ride while I was pg. Mostly because of how I felt during pregnancy and for me around 7 weeks is when it would start. I never got physically ill, but I felt like it all the time and just being in the car was bad, so I can't imagine a coaster. I had other aches and pains (esp. my breasts). But not everyone has these issues.
Also I agree with others that if something did happen would you always blame yourself and wonder if that is what did it? I think I would if it were me.

Good luck with your choice. I hope you have a great trip and congrats on your pregnancy!

My dr. told me that it would be no problem. Seriously. EE is very smooth. I had several miscarriages before my ds5 and was asking my dr every question of why I was miscarrying and it ended up being b/c I was on depo provera (birth control shot) for so long before tring to start trying for a baby. He said that early in pregnancy most people don't even know they're pregnant and there is nothing you can do to hurt that baby... it is so tiny and very well protected. My sister was about 4 months and we were at Cedar Point riding every coaster in the park...I can't say I would have done that...but my nephew is just fine ;) . I had my first ultra sound w/ds5 at 7 weeks :)!!! I knew the very moment I was expecting him :)!!! I love EE and you'll be ok. I'd ask your Dr...and I'm sure they'll say its no problem!

I am not flaming you, this is a question out of curiosity----has your doctor ridden EE or did he just give you the go ahead for ANY roller coaster?? I was at WDW a few months ago (not pregnant ;) )and felt EE was hardly "smooth".
I guess I had a very cautious doctor, as he strongly suggested I not go on any roller coaster when I was pregnant.......... :confused3

thanks for the replies to far. I don't think most of you read my post as my OB said it was okay to go on the rides at this point. She herself has been to Disney with her kids but has never been on Everest nor have I, which is why I am asking. I told her I will skip TOT and RNRC and MS this time and she said okay but didn't add anymore. I know every pregnancy is different but I am not one to feel sick (I have thrown up 4 times my entire life - strange huh?) and have had very easy pregnancies. In fact I LOVE LOVE being pregnant and am looking forward to my free dining even more :cool1:

Also I don't mind not going on rides and enjoying the other aspects of Disney. If it is as strong as RnRC like some of you are saying I will probably stay off of it.

thanks for any congratulations and your responses!!

First of all Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!
Second..i personally wouldn't go on any type of roller coaster during pregnancy. I have been to WDW 4 or 5 times while pg (we go alot..lol) and the only ride i rode that had a restriction sign was Kilamanjaro safari (i asked to sit in the front seat). Although it will be a bummer not being able to ride the thrill rides, you can still have a great time. Good luck and have a happy and healthy nine months!!!

I probably would not but that is me and I worry a lot.

My sister was on mission space (I think that is the crazy g force one) and the next week found out she was about 6-7 weeks pregnant. Her doctor told her that is was no big deal at all. The doctor even teased me about being to uptight for worrieng so much for my sister. She sid it is more of a deal when you are later and could deliver too early.

Now I fell down a flight of cement stairs and got hurt really abd while I was right at my 3rd month. Nothing was wrong with the baby at all, I just was messed up. My doctor said the same think, the womb is a pretty secure place even in the worst of conditions. BUT... Again, I most likely would not ride......

I think you will make the right choice for you after talking with your doctor and your husband :) Have fun though!!!!

I rode Space Mountain when I was 7 weeks. EE is alot smoothly than SM and you get no airtime, so there won't be the whole thing with your tummy hitting the lapbar. With my first pregnancy, I was about 10 weeks when I found out and I had just rode all the big coasters at Six Flags the weeks before.

Um I got airtime on that big drop- it is the largest drop on any Disney ride- so yeah I got airtime and you didn't get thrown against the bar in the portion of the trip in the dark? I really am cautious in my comments- I think the dark portion although you do not go upside down you sure feel like you are. That is enough for me.

I wouldn't. The "what ifs" are just too huge. Besides, it's a great excuse for a return trip once the little one arrives! A little delayed gratification never hurt anybody. And I had a blast my last trip pregnant even without doing my fave rides.

I personally would not, Not in a million, billion years.

Mom of three who says ABSOLUTELY I would ride the rides. I adore my kids. I don't consume caffeine while pregnant, but I did have a glass of wine with an occassional French or Italian meal :-). I think as Americans, we freak out way too much. Yet, the same parents who might say "no" might let their kids watch tv before age 2 -- with the AAP says DON'T DO. But, they rationalize it, don't they, LOL. And, after age 2 kids should never have more than 1/2 of tv per day , and never action/violent shows -- how many kiddos of parents here watch at least 1 hour, if not 3??? And, have seen Power Rangers, etc??

So, realisitically, the doc knows what she's talking about. I was running until my 7th month of pregnancy. Professional iceskaters skate until the last month or so. Our bodies protect the fetus if it is healthy. If you do (knock wood!) miscarry, it is generally a fetus with medical issues, KWIM?

Anyway, I'd have a great time! And, like many have pointed out, most people have NO CLUE when they are 7 weeks pregnant.

Congrats!

At 7 weeks I would ride EE. At 7 months I wouldn't.

I personally thought the ride was very tame, it wasn't much of a "thrill" for me. At 7 weeks along, nothing you can do physically will harm the baby....at that point miscarriages are from other issues. So I wouldn't worry about it at all and I would enjoy the ride.

I agree with the previous poster who said that we as Americans freak out way too much when it comes to some things. Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you have to stay at home in bed for 9 months....Since you and your doctor seem to be fine with it, I would go and have a great time!

no he's never been on EE...we live in Ohio but in Ohio we have Cedar Point and it has most of the record winners for the fastest, tallest roller coasters... I did not ride anything while pregnant ...but I did have miscarriages. It had nothing to do w/rides..just the birth control I had been on for years previously. I was very upset about miscarrying and he said at 7 weeks... most women don't even know they're pregnant!!! At that early in the pregnancy there is very little you can do to cause them harm...they're SOOOO TINY and very well protected...seriously!!! He went on and on to tell me that women blame themselves for miscarrying after riding waverunners and everything like that and it wouldn't make a difference if they had rode the waverunner or not... I've rode EE several times and at 7 WEEKS pregnant... I wouldn't have a problem riding it...but I would ask my Dr. first to be sure...and yes...my Dr. was a specialist and one fo the best in the state! My sister did ride some of the jerkiest...most extreme coasters 10 weeks pregnant...and my nephew is fine :) If your Dr. said you'll be fine, I wouldn't worry about it. 7 weeks.... you'll be ok.

I must say, I'm, um, surprised at how kind everyone is being in this thread. It's nice to know that when one asks not to be flamed that the DIS complies. :thumbsup2 Anyway, at the risk of sounding like a wiseguy.... is EE going somewhere? Maybe you can just ride it on your next trip?

First of all...CONGRATS! What an exciting time. As for EE, I wouldn't do it...all "risk to baby" points aside, you will most likely be a little sick to your stomach...I wouldn't add a rollercoaster to the factors that could make you sick on the ride and potentially ruin your time at Disney. EE will be there in the future- ride it next time.

Also as an aside...you will not want a kid like me. I am a souvenier of a Disney trip. Everytime I have as much a cold, I tease my mother that it's because she rode the rides while pregnant with me! :rotfl:

Well, I'm two-sided. lol. Chances are the baby is more than protected. Chances are the baby will be perfectly fine.
On the other hand, that's a mighty risky outcome.
There are so many variables, guess if my dr says ok and my gut feeling is ok, then sure.
You know, mom's normally have a great intuition right from the start.
ETA: Congratulations! Wouldn't trade mine for anything.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I went in May at 15/16 weeks pregnant. I asked my doctor before I went and she advised skipping Mission Space and RnR based on the amount of G-force. She said she would skip ToT personally as well but that pretty much everything else was safe as baby was still so small and well protected. The only rides I was really wondering about were Splash and Thunder as I was taking my kids with my Mom and knew she wouldn't ride those with them and they LOVE those. I did ride them and had no problems. I had an ultrasound within a few days of returning and all was A-OK. The little one is still fine and actively kicking all day long now. :) I haven't ridden Everest, and neither has my OB, but we weren't going to AK that trip anyway so it wasn't an issue. Will your DH be going on the trip too? If so I'd say send him on it alone and get his opinion. It's his baby too and he isn't going to want you to do anything that would harm either of you so he'll be honest in his opinion. :)

If your doctor OKs it AND if you are comfortable with it, then go for it! I have had several miscarriages myself and still didn't have a concern abour riding Splash and Thunder. I know the m/c I had had nothing to do with anything I did or didn't do in any way. Thousands of women have ridden those rides at 7 weeks without even realizing they were pregnant at all. You may have morning sickness kick in before then and have no interest in riding anything fast at all...or you could feel fantastic and have a great trip! Just remember to rest a lot and drink TONS of water. Dehydration will pose your biggest risk to baby. That was my doctor's biggest warning...to drink water all day long. That by the time I was thirsty, it was a sign I had waited too long (not that baby would be in jeaparody if you got thirsty, just making the point that it was a sign of begining to dehydrate so drink regularly to avoid that).

Have a great trip!

I'd go ahead and do it. One - your OB has given you the go ahead, and all those years of med school and residency weren't just hanging out sipping coffee...

Two - I took embryology myself at the med school level (our dental school included two years of med school) and agree with all those that have posted re: early pregnancy being very well protected and that miscarriages are not likely due to speed and G forces at that early stage.

I didn't ride it at 24 weeks, when we were there, but I would have ridden at 7 weeks.

Have a great time!

I rode them all when I was 6 weeks pregnant and had no clue I was pregnant including mission space with no problem. I got sick after Mission Space but that was it. That baby is proteded in there pretty darn good. You should have no problems but don't push it. I hope to do that again this time we are still waiting on our first. That was we miscarried at 13 weeks.
