I didn't put this on the debate board because it's rather fluffy - not about political beliefs at all. I was taken aback when the President walked out tonight and was greeted by not only polite clapping, but "woo hoo's" and whistles as if he was a rock star or sports figure.

So regardless of your political beliefs or who the President is, would you "woo hoo" the Pres?

I didn't see it, reading a good book.

As long as they weren't winding up their arms and "woofing" like Arsenio. They weren't doing that, were they?

OLAF.. I am ROTFLMAO!!!!!

I would love to see all those suits in D.C pump their clenched fists in the air while "woofing" "woofing" at the Commander in Chief.. An Arsenio DOG POUND WELCOME FOR MR. BUSH!!! Oh dear Lord.. where is EROS when I need him!!!!
Dang that is Quite an image!!

**** However.. I would stand and applaud, he is the President and deserves respect.

It's tradition for the people in the party of the
president to make lots of vocal noise to support
him in the state of the union. Didn't watch either.
First one I've missed in 10 years. I watched
Trading Spaces.

The W seems like a woo hoo kind of President. I think he would enjoy it and see the humor. :D

This is so funny! DH and I commented last night on the whistling...it did seem a little "much"....but, turn that around and think...WOW!!! These folks are WOOHOOing a president instead of a druggie rock star!!! Mayyybe that's not such a bad thing!!! My DD was watching....she thought it was cool. I would much rather her view the President as a hero than some rock singer with a pierced tongue spouting profanity!!!! :) :) :) JMHO

Though not a GW lover, I was impressed with his speach. All I kept thinking, however, all those people must have soar knees and hot hands from all the staning and clapping.

but I give'em a big "Yee-Haw"!!:teeth:

You hafta be pretty "famous" to get a big "Yee-Haw" outta me!:p

LOL - no woofing! Glad I wasn't the only one that noticed. I've seen lots of vocal noise at political conventions etc. , but I guess I'd just never noticed it before at State of the Union addresses. Maybe last year was solemn enough they didn't do it.

I think he deserves a bit more respect than a wooohooo. Maybe just the way I was brought up, but I found it quite annoying and classless, and not very respectful to the leader of our country giving the State of the Union address. JMHO...and I really like the man.

Glo, I agree...it did seem out of place. But thinking about it further this morning....maybe, in these tense times, people just need to WOOHOO. And who better to be the recipient of this joy than the man who now carries the weight of the world on his shoulders? Just a thought.

No, but I think I saw Orin Hatch doing the "raise the roof" move! ;) :teeth:

Truly you guys, it's a tradition and a symbol
of support meant only in the most honorable
way. You should hear the British Parliment-they
practically raise the roof! The President would
feel very unpopular if it were not done.
