I must say having stayed at a moderate it was nice but I really, really missed a balcony for the extra light it allows into the room without worry of anyone walking by and looking in when you are in the room.

Plus CSR appears to be twice the size of SSR so not a compact resort by any means.

I've stayed at Pop before and it didnt bother us - we spend zero time in the room (apart from sleeping) as we will be in the parks, pool etc so it doesnt matter to us too much.

Thank for all you comments - I looked at a million photos and read reviews but I'm staying put!

I guess there is always plenty of times to experience all the WDW resorts :)

At Xmas we went around a lot of hotels looking at Xmas Decs, I think its helps us a lot in deciding for future trips like GF does not appeal to us, contemp we both took an instant dislike to as soon as we got off the monorail but Poly and Wilderness lodge are both somewhere we got a good feeling about and would be on list of possibilities.
AKL we stayed at last August, great for 3 nights, wouldn't really want any longer there. Allstar Movies we did not like at all, others love it.
Every resort has its fans, you just have to find the right one for you, always another year to try SSR.

Welcome Feebarn.

Also there's a reason SSR and OKW have such a huge discount on them......

there the biggest dvc property's on site.would say ssr is the best option if no car.dont be taken in by the fact that it looks spread out.the walkway round ssr and downtown Disney and back to ssr is 45 min.this makes it the best option to stay without a car.as there are loads place to eat and do in the evening.one of the main reasons the yanks don't like it is that the restaurant facility's aren't as good as other dvc resort and its not close to a park, but turf club one of our fav places to eat and plenty of options to eat at downtown disney.and i would say that csr not far of in size
personly think your mad not to upgrade

We have just booked to go back to CSR next year. Because of the way the free ddp is being offered we could stay at AKL for the same price with the DxDP - this is our problem. We eat at the AKL at Boma and love it, also love the theming of the place but two years ago we stayed for one week at CSR and one week at GF. Yes the room at the GF was beautiful but we only slept there! We did nothing but moan all week that we wished we had stayed put at the CSR.

Been to the CSR three times now and we've decided to stick to the resort we love. Yes, we might also love the AKL but its just not worth the risk to us.

I haven't stayed at either but SSR does seem to be the better value option.

However, if you prefer the look of CSR then stick with that - it's all down to personal preference and just because something seems like a better deal financially doesnt necessarily mean you'll enjoy it more once your out there

So to answer your question, I personally would upgrade to SSR but then you seem to really like the look of CSR and so I'd say stick with your first instincts.

:teeth: My thoughts exactly!!

Well yes there is, but it's nothing mysterious or negative! Both are sold-out timeshare resorts with SSR being the largest; so in theory, they should be filled close to capacity for the whole year by members. However, members themselves 'trade out' and go on cruises, non-Disney destinations etc in addition to staying at other DVC resorts. DVC then has to re-coup the costs of these trades and so inventory goes to CRO. Now I know that the resorts attached to parks do command a higher rate - and there are fewer of them - so it is inevitable that Disney is going to use SSR and OKW excess for special promotions.

In short, as Paul says, the reason is that they are bigger; and like all of the Disney values and moderates, they are not attached to parks. They are both lovely resorts. I've stayed at values and moderates (but not for longer than 2 nights) and for me there's no comparison but I totally agree with others who say it's the OP's call. Her holiday, her decision :)

for the uk offer you get the QS ddp free with moderates, which is 2 counter sevice meals per day and 2 sncks per day(with this you wouldent be able to use credits for bomas)
If OP upgraded to SSR for the £50 they would get the regular ddp which is 1 TS,1QS and 1 snack per day
If you want the DxDDP (3 TS per day)you pay the difference
The reason most are saying its a no brainer is thet with going to SSR you get a better food package as well as better resort

You can pay to upgrade from QS to regular DDP when staying in a mod on the UK offer, that's what we did (7 night stay so upgrading to a deluxe would cost way more) I think many others have done the same :) I don't think I would have bothered with free dining if I was stuck with QS, Disney counter food is OK but not for every meal..!

Ummmm no thats not what I have got - I have booked 14 nights for the price of 10 (king room) with 14 day ultimate tickets and regular DDP ( 1 TS 1 CS 1 snack per day) - this was booked before the free DDP offer started.

Moderators I would be grateful if you could lock this thread for me please there are alot of uncessary posts on here and as previously stated I have made my decision. Thanks :thumbsup2

so i take it that you paid for the ddp?
not meaning to cause you problems but i was pointing out in my post that for the deluxe resorts you only get the regular ddp and for the moderates its the QS on uk free ddp.
Sorry to upset you

No upset caused - yes I did pay for DDP but the 14 for 10 offer with king room+DDP+14 day ultimate tickets works out basically the same as CSR+ultimate tickets+free DDP (including upgrade to 1ts 1 cs 1 snack DDP) - well its £30 cheaper but this would be cancelled out by £25 amendment fee so I'm not bothering.

This thread is going round in circles - I've made my decision - based on this and some helpful posts on the disney resort board - but thanks everyone for your responses :)

if your paying more disney dont charge for an upgrade:thumbsup2
