Would you take your child's friends to Aldi?

You do realize that although YOU may live where it's cold int he winter there are plenty of other areas where it is warm year round. The OP didn't say where she lived so there's no need to say she's crazy because YOU are projecting your circumstances on her and assuming that she's planning for something 4 months from now.

Or it could be an indoor water park (which is what I assumed when I read it).

OP - I see no problem with it (though I would mention it to their mum when planning).

To clarify things.

Friends live about 40 minutes from us, water park is another 15 minutes or so further, Aldis is about 2 blocks from the water park. The issue with taking friends home is partially gas, and partially saving that 1/2 hour.

Water park is indoors and free. It's really small, not like a Great Wolf Lodge or anything, just a few slides and a few sprinklers and some lily pads added to a regular pool. It's a nice treat though, especially in the winter.

Kids are all 11, and can't stay unaccompanied unless they're 12 and have a county ID.

We went, it all worked out fine.

Glad it worked out & you had a good time. It's cool that your area has an indoor facility with free access:thumbsup2

What city is the pool in? I want to move there!:rotfl:

I have taken as many as 6 girls shopping and we had fun . It can be great to have extra hands to help when we go. They like to help pack the bags . Now the 6 I generally take our girls I have had as scouts for the last 6 years . It's never a dull moment and My DH has taken all of them. IF you have taken them before and the listen so your not stressed go for it. We have also taken 2 of their friends to the fair and I will NEVER take them anywhere. It depends on the kids!

How did you like Aldi's? There is one not too far from me, wondering if it would be worth it to go. Thanks!

If your budget busters are outside activities... Water park would include this... Then why are u considering taking your kids and some others to this? Just saying... Seems backwards.

She said 'free community pool'

Free.

Yes I would, and wouldn't think another thing about it. (as long as the parents knew).

 We've been having some rough months around here too.

Four blocks can be a big deal if you have to wait at three traffic lights on the way through and again on the way back.

So long as all the kids know in advance and can choose to go at all, it is okay to stop at the store.

As long as everyone knows ahead of time, I see no problem with it.

And as to some of the other comments. Could you people be any ruder?

Yes, your ARE reading it wrong. The OP stated the park was an additional 4 blocks from the store. She never said how far it was from her home, it could 20 miles for all we know. Obviously it's far enough for her to be concerned about her gas usage.

Totally.....honestly the DIS has the most hostile posters, I have ever encountered!!:sad2: Good grief.....

Glad it worked out.....I'm sure the kids had fun.....and you got a great deal on some groceries. I love Aldi's!

Glad you had a good time and Aldi's is a great way to save some extra money for Disney. I think its great you have a free indoor water park in your area take advantage of it . :thumbsup2

OP- hope everything is working out for you during this hard time. Glad you were able to make the trip to the indoor pool facility and Aldi's. Out of curiosity- how did you like Aldi's?

I'm not sure how op liked it but if it helps I have been shopping Aldis for 14 years . Love it . We have just gotten one close to use with in a 30 min drive and in our area that's the average time to a store , But before that I would go 2 times a year spring and fall buying buy the cases . The money I saved was worth the 2 hour drive.

Internet boards are all the same people feel the need to put their 2 cents in regarding a question never asked.

Were you able to return the Dyson at Wal-Mart? Hope things are working out for you.

I'm not sure why so many people wouldn't take three 11 year olds to the store. :confused3

I've often taken my DD with a friend or two to a store. I'm usually the mom providing rides to the movies/ pool/ wherever and I would'nt even feel that I needed to ask permission to stop at Target if I needed to.

I'm glad that you went and it worked out.

How did you find Aldi's?

I started to answer your question by saying "they have a map on their website" but luckily I read the post below before I made a fool of myself. Clearly not what you meant.

I'd actually been before, when we lived closer, so it wasn't surprise. I think it's a great source for budget food. I find that I buy more processed food when I go there relative to Shopper's or Giant, but I also save a lot. I haven't been going recently because it's so far, but it was a good reminder to go back.

I should clarify, not that I think it makes a difference, that the pool isn't exactly free. It was just free for us. We had my daughter's birthday party there and they give you a free pass for each kid for the party favors, and I forgot to give them out. So, I have a whole stack of free passes, originally maybe 15 but we've spent some and added some since we've gone to more parties there. I didn't put that in the original post because I was a little embarrassed to have forgotten the passes.

I haven't gone to Walmart yet. I'm hoping that I won't have to sell the Dyson so it can still function as an emergency fund of sorts. So, I'm trying to figure out a budget where I don't have spend them in case something else happens.

Walmart is also very far in the opposite direction from Aldi's, so I kind of had to choose.

Go Aldi buy what you like and save for the other things that you are used to.Aldi will save you some cash and too hang with others.Go for it.
