Would you take a chance on AirTran?

With so many horror stories of cancelled and changed flights, would you still book AirTran if the price was right? They seem to have lower prices available for our December trip....much lower than SW or JB. Our schedule doesn't allow for a lot of flexibility, so I'm worried about flight changes. Any thoughts?

NO WAY! But thats just my opinion!

I do like that Flint is closer, but the nonstop outbound flight is at 7am and the return nonstop doesn't get in until 11pm (or something like that). It would be necessary to spend two nights in a hotel, before and after the flight, since we would not want to drive in that early or drive home that late.

Detroit usually has two non-stops to choose from. For our upcoming trip, we've opted to drive over the night before and take the 1ish flight. We could have chose the 6ish flight and skipped the hotel stay. I prefer the first option because we do not have to worry about traffic causing us to miss our plane.

Gotcha, that is why we like flying from Flint - we like the times of the non-stop flights. We live about an hour away and don't mind getting up a little early and getting to the airport. It gives us 2 1/2 days at the parks.

Just curious how you guys are getting the $25 coupons. Is it from their website?

Here you go:

If you want more than one coupon (to book 2 one-ways with $25 off each) you need to enter 2 different e-mail addresses. I sent one me and one to my DD6. This way, I was able to use one code on each leg of my flight. Detroit to Orlando came to $39.60 and Orlando to Detroit came to $29.60!

I have absolutely no qualms about booking Airtran.

As Lewis talked about earlier, I don't EVER book anything the day I fly in. After traveling all day, I am too tired to enjoy it anyway. If my early am flight gets moved, so be it......

Best thing to do on day 1 is to go to MK and take the monorail tour. It is FREE! You can stop at each resort, soak in the Disney magic and move at your own pace.....

I live 15 minutes from the Grand Rapids airport but I will gladly drive 2.5 hours to Detroit so I can fly AirTran!:lovestruc

I used the $25 coupons (had one sent to me and one to my 6 year old DD:cutie:) and I was able to book round trip to Orlando for a total of $69.20:thumbsup2!

I am hoping that they move my inbound flight earlier (but it is currently scheduled for a 1:40pm departure so it is not too late) and I REALLY hope they move my return flight later. I am not looking forward to a 10:30am flight, but since I need to be back in GR at a reasonable time (kids have school in the morning) I can tolerate the early flight.

Just keep an eye on their schedules and call them as soon as you see a time change that won't work for you. They will let you switch to a different flight for no charge. For our June trip (2009) I had booked the afternoon non-stop for $59 even though I wanted the morning non-stop ($129). I was OK with the afternoon flight, but I was hoping that it would change times so that I could get the morning flight. When I saw that it changed by 13 minutes, I called and they gave me the morning flight at no charge. Every time AT has changed my times, it has ended up working out to my advantage in the end so I have no complaints. You just have to be prepared and know your options if they make changes on you.

Exactly!:thumbsup2 I love Airtran!! My girlfriend messed up and booked her October flight for Friday instead of Saturday. That Friday hotel was going to end up costing them big bucks! I told her not to panic, just leave as is and when AT changes the time we can fix it. Not even a week later we get the time adjustment email which allowed her to cancel and re-book for a Saturday non-stop:thumbsup2 Our flights have never changed more than 15 minutes to either side and AT has always provided excellent customer service especially when we had a family emergency and they fixed everything at no charge. American otoh, lied and tried to cheat me once I got to the airport. I have not flown them since 2005 although they are headquartered 30 minutes from me. I will take my chances with AT and have never been disappointed.
I have them booked for September, twice in October and again in November.
I dont understand why people freak because they got an email saying their flight changed. All the airlines do it. I build that in to my planning no matter who I fly.

We took two round trips with Air Tran. We had problems with all of those flights. I think you can read other posts here about the whole scheduling problem. But we also had problems with other areas. We had one great flight crew on one flight and one very abusive crew on another. Customer service was downright nasty when I asked her one question about reserving seating. I asked her if everyone that buys a ticket has to pay to reserve seats. That was it... that and "hello". Then she went off. She said they reserve privileges for paying customers. I told her we were paying customers. She responded "You people that pay coach are baggage and should be riding with the baggage." and I was costing them money just talking on the phone with them. She hung up on me and called I another customer service agent to complain. She was nasty as well and said she agreed with the other agent and hung up on me. I wrote a letter to Air Tran and never heard back form them. :headache::headache:

Does anyone know if you can move reservations on AirTran even if you book it through Disney?

Should clarify...if you book the whole vacation through Disney...including airfare...and AirTran changes times can you still move it around?

I refuse to fly Air Tran.
Hated them when they were Value Jet and still do.

Exactly. I used 4 for my DH and me so we saved $100 booking two one way tickets for each of us.

I love Air Tran. Yes, I've had minor issues of flights getting changed, but never by more than a few minutes. Last year, we were in Fort Myers when a hurricane was due to strike on our departure day. Two days before we were to leave, we got an email allowing us to change our departure. We were supposed to leave on Tuesday, and the soonest they could get all 4 of us out together was Friday (thank goodness we were staying with family!). Turns out, our original flight did get off the ground, but we got 3 additional days.

I booked my September trip on Air Tran in May. Two weeks later, while checking on available flights for another trip, I noticed that my departing flight had been moved by 5 hours. I wouldn't have arrived at the resort until midnight. They never notified me about it.

I contacted my TA and she got us booked on an earlier flight. Air Tran wanted to charge me for switching, but mt TA stuck up for me and we were charged nothing, as it was their fault.

I have flown Air Tran many times and most times it has been without incident. You just need to keep tabs on everything.

Flying 3 seats with an infant $330.00 round trip.

Serious savings. :woohoo:

Leaving a day earlier than anticipated, and the Beach Club can accomodate our earlier arrival.

Life is good.
