Would you take a 1 year old on Haunted Mansion & Pirates?

I suppose the question I should ask is, out of all the rides that do not have any height restrictions, which (if any) should I be wary of taking my DD on during her first trip? (she will turn 1 only 10 days after we get home)

Looking for personal accounts of taking babies on rides such as Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Great Movie Ride, The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow (we have not seen this yet), and even Maelstrom.

NOTE: My DD doesn't get scared by many things, but she hates my hair dryer, of all things! After a few minutes she's fine but initially when she hears it, she cries. But thunderstorms don't seem to phase her, loud noises on tv don't bother her...just that pesky hair dryer. :rotfl: So hopefully the fireworks will not be an issue.

I appreciate all advice! :goodvibes

At 9 months DD went on anything without a height limit!

The ones she really enjoyed was Pirates and Journey into imagination!

She always been a bit of a daredevil though!

We just had this conversation with our neighbors during our evening walk. As gas as rides they said their kids rode everything, that was at WDW not DL but I'm assuming it'd be the same concept. They also gave us some great advice. Before the trip take lots of walks to get your DD use to the stroller. If not, at 1 she's going to want to down. I'd she's use to having to ride in the stroller, then it'll make things easier. Hope that helps! :)

I don't think many ride themes or images would scare a <1 year old, they are just a little too oblivious.
I know I def took my LOs on HM and POC at that age. At around 3-years old my DD became scared of HM but outgrew it. If there is a scary scene I would just distract your LO or cuddle them up.
Loud / startling noise could be an issue. I know some of the shows, especially the 3D/4D ones can have some startling noise. I'm thinking of Mickey's Philharmagic. I wouldn't avoid it just be prepared to sooth baby after a starling noise or leave the theater if that doesn't work.

Yep, our DD went on everything without a height requirement at 15 months. The only time she fussed the whole trip was when we had to get off of the rides. When it was time to get off, her older brothers made a game of getting her excited to go see the next ride before she started crying.:goodvibes

Our first trip, DS was 13 mos. He loved POTC and HM. DD, on the other hand, was terrified on HM (she was almost 4). I'm hoping they'll both be ok this trip because those are 2 of my favorite rides!

That's what I thought -- seems it won't be as much of an issue until she's a couple years older. Thanks for all the great advice! I feel like a newbie again, now that I'm planning a trip with a baby! Adult only trips are so easy to plan because I'm so used to it. I'm really excited to take my little girl on many many trips to Disney, so hopefully I'll become a pro at travelling with little ones too! It really is a new adventure...

that's a great tip! I'm actually going to buy a new stroller before the trip -- I guess we should get one this weekend so we can get her used to it, incase it feels different than her other stroller. We have gone to the zoo a few times and she's okay in it for a little while but we also bring the carrier and my DH holds in her in that quite a bit too.

Yes, I have with both my kids. 1 years olds aren't scared of things, it's the 3-4 year olds that freak out.

DD fell asleep on the HM at a year old. She must not have been that scared :lmao:

She didn't like the cannons during Pirates this past trip when she was 18 months though. She was fine at 11.5 months though.

The only issue we ever has was the stretching room in HM. DD still dislikes it, but she is a little anxious about being in the dark. All others were no problem at all.

Also concur with others - most one year olds will be fine. Both my kids at that age went on everything with us and were fine, but oh boy hit end of the 2's, 3's, and 4's and then we had some issues!! Now at 8 & 12 we can all ride everything together!!

The only thing I might be concerned about is the Great Movie Ride. Just because it's pretty long, a little intense, and there's no 'out' if she gets fussy or upset for whatever reason.
Other than that, have fun!

We took our dd on all the rides at 1 and 18 months and 2 and 2.5. She is fine with them all and I think it might be because she has done them and we didn't make them into a nervous mess. She doesn't scare easily and is a daredevil though so every kid and situation is different.

Yep. I took my then 14 m old on anything that didn't have a ht requirement.

I agree with the others. My DDs first visit was at 9 mo. She had no problems with any of the rides you mentioned. at 2 1/2 she became scared of HM. At 1, they don't know it is supposed to be scary.

without a doubt- we took our on everything they were allowed on. They youngest any have been at WDW time was 11 mos. She was more worried about it at 3 and 5 - "look for the doggie with the keys", "make a scary face to scare the ghosts away". If you don't make a big deal about it being dark and scary they won't either.

I took my son when he was 16 months. He rode haunted mansion without a problem. He slept through the great movie ride. We didn't do the others that you named, but I can't imagine them being too bad. He is also afraid of the blow dryer and vacuum. The only ride that scared him was dumbo. He had a fit on that one. After that we avoided others like it ( and there are quite a few)
