We have ressies at CR standard room nov 29th - dec 1st. - i got a code discount for $139.00 i requested north wing first floor...
having a few issues with $$ and with 33 days left not sure if i am thinking real clear LOL

was thinking about checking to see if a value resort, all stars or POP were available....thikning that would drop close to $275 off our ressie ( i think value were 49$ with code??) if we swtiched...
would any of you do this?
we had a goal of a certain amount to have saved by our trip and we are short....by about 200$ i realize i could revamp the itineary or take off a PS etc, but i wonder if we would really be missing something special by NOT satying at CR?
i guess i can rework things abit, but wanted to hear from someone what they would choose to shave a little off the total?

Thanks

Tina

I think everyone will have their own opinion on this. But if you personally are fine with it, I don't see why you shouldn't. I guess the room would be smaller. I would personally rather take a cut back on room rate than cut out some of our activities. How much are you in the room anyways?

I'm actually the opposite of the last poster. I'd prefer to keep the CR reservation (it's a great rate) and cut back on PSs and other souveniers. I do like the Value resorts and would stay at them again, but if I had planned a Deluxe vacation and were just $200 short, I'd stick to my resort plan and cut elsewhere.

Code???? I thought codes were gone for that time frame?????? Please tell me they are, because I'm paying rack rate for 20th - 27th.

Why did you choose the CR? Is it worth $200?

That is a really great rate, and the convience to the MK from the CR can't be beat - especially with little kids along - more time in the room during naps, etc.

But if you will only be in your room to sleep and shower, don't have little kids transportation issues, are taking your own car or a rental everywhere anyways.....

I don't know what else is in your budget to cut. If your "few PSs" are one nice dinner and one character meal, I wouldn't cut that. If your "few PSs" are three character meals, four dinner PSs, plus a special meal at CG, I'd cut there.

If your souvie budget is a t shirt or pin or stuffed Mickey for everyone, its hard to cut. If its all the above, plus, then its easy to cut.

If there are no kids in your group, I would choose a value resort. I have stayed at the mod. and deluxe resorts and I LOVE them, however, when I am not swimming in extra cash (which I basically never am) I opt for the value resort. I go with my boyfriend and we are never in the room except to sleep. I would rather stay longer or spend more on special souviners or nice dinners (I'm a food person) than where I spend 8 hours sleeping.
If you are going to be there for a few weeks and will be partaking in other activities (boat rentals, spa treatments etc) then you may want a mod. or deluxe resort.
You have to weigh your options and see what is more important this time around....
Is there a current discount code? I thought the fall/holiday one was expired; if not, please share, I am going in 5 weeks and I didn't get the discounted rate.

I can guess from your post you have two kids (what ages?) and are splitting your stay ("5 days at WDW" but dates for CR are 3 nights). Can you cut the other two night accommodations or other line items from the budget??

Personally, I'd rather switch hotels then sweat money my entire vacation. I LOVE the CR NGW, and I LOVE the All Stars!!! But the thing I love most is staying within my budget so I can enjoy whereever I am and whatever I'm doing!!! JMO...

We switched from poly to POFQ last vacation after already paying for poly and got around a $400+ credit and we loved having the extra money. If you were staying just a couple of nights I personally would take the extra $275 and have myself a fantastic meal or go shopping.

We Love the value resorts. We are DVC members and we come down a day or two early just to stay at the value resorts. We stayed at Pop the last time and had a Wonderful time.

I would stay at the value resort. We just stayed at Pop and it was great.

I personally would rather save money on the hotel and spend more on the extras (character meals, sit down lunches, etc.). But we don't usually hang out in the hotel and our kids are older (12 & 9) so no stroller issues.

i agree w/the poster that asked *why* you chose CR in the first place... if those reasons are critical to you, then figure out a way to cut the budget somewhere else... if not, then definitely go value to save the money...

we stayed at pop our last trip and *loved* it! it's a great resort for the amount of time we spend in a resort (and this particular trip it was a lot due to hurricane lock-down) and were very pleased with our choice...

good luck and ENJOY!

I *Totally* agree with Patti! Think how much more you'll enjoy your vacation if you have some extra money to play! :)

There is no doubt in my mind. I would MUCH rather stay in a value and stay within my budget and not cut out anything else. Regardless of ANY resort's benefits or appeal, the bottom line for us is that it's simply a hotel room for sleeping and showering.

I would also stay at CR...just me. I would also charge the $200 I was missing and find it later, or get a little job after I got back to make up the difference. But that's me. You do what's best for you!!! Either way you can't loose!!!:p Have a great time.

We perferred ASMo to CR. I don't think you would miss much at all. We only have one DD who is only 8 so the size of the room wasn't much of an issue.

I would keep the CR and cut a PS. We only do two sit down meals our whole trip--one character meal and one nicer dinner. There are a lot of little things you can do to save $200 during the course of the trip. Do a grocery stop and eat breakfast in your room (I think CR has fridges), bring your own snacks and bottled water into the parks. Don't rent a car. Buy souvenirs in advance from Disney store, Walmart, Target--Disney stuff is every where. Then give it to your kids while you are there.

The main reason I would stay at CR is because $139 is an AWESOME rate. You may have a trip in the future where you can't get that kind of price at a deluxe and you can stay value then. If you don't plan to return, then you DEFINITELY need to stay at a deluxe. The rooms at CR are HUGE and the location is awesome! I can't wait to stay there with my sons. I'm waiting on that $139 rate!!

You didn't mention if you've stayed on property before nor where. We've stayed everywhere, and can tell you I'd stick with CR. Great resort, super location, walk to/from MK, water pagent, monorail, mouse boats, larger rooms. Plus you've got a heck of a rate.

HI-
thanks for the help....

have never stayed on property before....first time.

my kids are 13 and 5, yes, we are splitting our stay, 2 nts aT CR and tehn 3 nights offsite....cant really cut that one, cause it's a priceline hotel and already paid for ( clarion maingate, which we have stayed at before, plus we got 30$ per night :hyper: )

thanks all again...i have gone over some stuff and am still working with it.

With a 5 year old and only 2 nites on site, you definitely need to stay at CR. Remember, you can also try to cut some things out of your household budget. We've refinanced our house, switched one cell phone to a pre-paid plan (only $20 bucks every three months), and cut out cable. We don't miss cable at all. We bought a nice TV antenna and actually like just letting the kids watch PBS and videos. We watch less TV too, which is a good thing.

Well, we just stayed at ASMo on our trip last month, and we loved it! Granted, the room was a standard hotel size, and the pool didn't have a slide, but it was fine with us. The Contemporary is our next resort we want to try, we ate twice at Chef Mickey's and loved what we saw of it. Tough choice!

We had our two boys with us, ages 3 and 1, and didn't have any problems with using the busses, or folding up the stroller to put on the bus. It was no big deal for us, and I don't see why everyone makes it out to be one, but on the other hand, when we used the monorail and pushed the stroller right on with the baby in it, that was easier.

We (personally) don't put vacations on the cc. I know how easy it is to say "Oh, we'll take care of it as soon as we get back", and for us, that doesn't happen. If I had to make a choice, I'd switch to the value resort for those 3 nights and put the Contemporary on the list for next time. You do have an awesome rate for the C though, and I don't believe there are codes available anymore for Nov/Dec....check on that before you cancel!

Steph

I vote for Pop... We LOVE that place! Have stayed there twice this year and I think both your kids will love it.

I plan a trip every year to a deluxe concierge for my birthday. Since this year I started my own business, I decided to still enjoy WDW but stay at a mod instead. I still had a great time (even though Hurricane Jeanne came to join the party on my birthday, and she wasn't invited!). Even through a hurricane, we had a blast and I did not regret it.

Staying deluxe is great and the rate you got was fantastic, but it really will not be as enjoyable if it's going to give you financial stress. You can try again next time.
