Would You Still Write To The BBB...?

As some may remember, we had some housework done and had issue after issue after issue.

First it was an issue with them scratching our window (they replaced it for immediately), then they scratched the new siding putting up gutters (they replaced it immediately), then a new window we ordered came in with etching (they ordered a NEW new window).

Yesterday, they installed the NEW new window, and it also had etching, but at the bottom, where it's hardly noticeable. We complained about writing to the BBB, and they gave us the window for free ($1200).

It took from late-August until yesterday to get the window, with nothing but lies and hassles in between.

I know they gave us the window for free because they didn't want us writing to the BBB. At the dame time, future customers should be aware of some of their practices, I believe.

What do you think?

No. They are trying to make it right. What more do you want them to do? They cannot help it if the window came in with a scratch on it. It's not like they carved their name in it. I think it was nice that they gave you the window for free and would consider that a great resolution.

I just reread your OP. I thought the window they gave you for free was one that they damaged. Now I see that it was one you ordered but it came in damaged so they gave it to you for free. No way would I complain. You goit a $1200 window for free. What more do you want?

Okay! ;) We've been told by our neighbors that we SHOULD, my DH thinks we should, my parents think we should, our friends think we should! I feel bad about it... Was looking for unbiased opinions! ;)

Not so much about the window, but the lying to us... They had the window for TWO WEEKS and never called us to have it put in. My husband finally called and they said they had called US multiple times and left multiple voicemails. They did not.

If they are working with you to correct the problem, then no. No business is perfect, and all they can do is work with clients to correct their mistakes. If they are doing that then what else would you want?

I don't WANT anything. Well, what I WANT is for other people to know of our experience. They will NEVER use us as a reference, so how else, other than say, Angie's List, do people find out about contractors? Sure, they fixed the mistake... After three months of hassles. I wouldn't recommend anyone hire this company. Isn't that what BBB is for?

I guess I don't understand what there is to complain about-yes, they scratched a few things but that HAPPENS when you do construction. They FIXED EVERYTHING immediately, according to you. The etched windows are NOT their fault and they fixed them AND gave it to you free. :confused3:confused3:confused3

Now, I can see if they had not fixed anything that there would be reason to complain. I have a friend that spent over 5 YEARS trying to get her construction company to fix the 28 CODE VIOLATIONS on their newly built home, just for some perspective.

If they resolved all your issues satisfactorily, it would be bad karma to write to the BBB.

Don't do it. Times are hard enough for home contractors.

If I remember correctly, hadn't you already waited for quite a long time before this last 2 week period - in regards to this same window? In my book, that's not taking care of everything "immediately"..

Of course they gave you the window for free - you've been getting the round around with these people since at least August - with multiple issues..

Personally I don't put much faith in the BBB.. I've had serious, serious problems with a company in the past (and no, I'm not going to explain it for everyone on the CB), and when you look them up on the BBB their ratings haven't been damaged at all - even though many other people have had equally as serious problems..

Does Angie's List have a section where you can rate this company? If so, (and I'm remembering the whole situation with this company correctly) I would do it there.. If not, just spread the word by mouth - far and wide.. It's not like you're looking for money out of this deal - just trying to warn others that this is not a construction firm that completes their work on time; is careful when installing items - re: the damage to your siding; scratched your window; replaced it with a bad window; and then again with another bad window.. Personally, if I were looking for a contractor, I would want to know that they have that kind of history...

Glad you finally got your "free" window - even though it still has etching on it.. Who knows - maybe they order their supplies through cheap companies that sell "irregulars" and that's why you ended up with not one, but two windows with etching..

Maybe they took 2 weeks because they were on another job. That does happen in construction. IMO if you write the BBB based on what you posted it just sounds like you are an impossible to please customer.

The only reason to complain to the BBB is if you have some complaint that has been unresolved.

Is there something more they could do at this point to resolve it BETTER? Or are you satisfied with that they have done?

It doesn't mean you have to use them again... but you will complain, they will be contacted to see if they have resolved the issue (which it seems they have?) and then it will all cancel out.

From August until now isn't "two weeks" - and it appeared that they lied about the phone calls - indicating that they "would" have been available to do it sooner but the customer "couldn't be reached"..

My Dson-in-law gets that song and dance quite frequently when he orders construction materials.. No phone calls, but the companies insist that they have called "numerous" times - to all 3 numbers (his work included - where the secretary answers the phone, if not Dson-in-law himself).. If they're calling, all they're doing is breathing heavily into the phone..LOL..:rotfl:

I still don't think it is a big deal. I think they were just covering their behinds saying that they called. Of course they shouldn't have lied but they didn't scam the OP and they did make it right by giving her the window for free.

Sounds like you have complained about this to everyone you know already...;)
