If you listen to the news, you'd think a war with Iraq is only a matter of time... All "experts" believe the end of Feb. is the "best" time?! (like there is a good time for war...sheeesh!)

A group of us are on the 5/10/03 Western cruise. What if a war with Iraq breaks out between now and then? Would you still go or cancel? There is difference in opinions among us, so I thought I would check with the experts here. I think the last date for us to cancel without penalty is 3/9/03.

Our fingers are crossed that the war doesn't start EVER (or at least not before 5/18/03.) :( :( :(

I'd still go- Iraq isn't known for it's Navy. If you are comfortable flying- go for it!

You are going to get alot of different opinions on this one. I was in the Navy during desert storm and wish we would have finished the job while we were there the first time. Alot of things are going to change if we go to war, but we can't stop living our lives. I would have to say, yes I am still going to go on my land/sea vacation April 30-May 8. Life has to move forward. War is a definate reason to change your outlook, but I don't believe its a reason to effect your every move.

Say a pray tonight for our American Troops. I have had several friends deployed this week. Our prays and thoughts go to them and to their families. God grant them security to return home to us!!!!!!!

If we all stay home and wring our hands isn't that just what these terrorists/dictator/bullies want?????? No way. We have tremendous faith in our country, our armed services and in a president who we don't think will act hastily. WDW is one outlet for stress, a time to live in a magical world, no one will rob my family of that!

count us in. For weeks I've been saying I wasn't real comfortable with the thought of vacationing when the country goes to war, but now that both our vacation and a war appear to be immanent there's no way I'll be the one to let a declaration of war stop me. I intend to go on with my life as much as possible for as long as possible. Too many people in my family have spent time in the military guaranteeing my right to do so.

Yes. I would only not go if the Feds would forbid travel outside our borders. Kathy

We have a trip scheduled for the middle of March to Florida. We will be going if the US is or is not at war with Iraq. Why? Several reasons.

I have great faith in our armed forces. My father spent 27 years in the Navy. My next door neighbor is in the National Gaurd and is leaving for the middle east on Tuesday. He is an exceptional young man. Please say a prayer for him and his family.

I think it is important not to overly concern the children at this point. Now I don't mean you should keep them in a dream world but I think if we can maintain normallacy as much as possible it is best for the kids. It's tough enough as it is growing up today.

I don't think we should be held hostage by the terrorist, dictators, and criminals of the world. There are carjackings, murders, rapes, robberies every day yet I still choose to go shopping, out to movies, and take the kids to the park and zoo. Yes, these are all terrible crimes, but if we let ourselves become prisoners of these terrible people we will begin to loose the freedom that is so dear to us.

And finally, I trust in almighty God. I believe when it is your time be prepared cause there is nothing you can do. Last year over 200,000 Americans died in car crashes and other accidents. I had a friend who died when a car fell in him in his own garage. I have just as much of a chance of getting hurt or killed while out jogging around my neighborhood as I do on vacation in Florida. I choose to continue to live life rather than be afraid to. Just my philosophy. To each his own.

I know its a tough decision. Best of luck to you in making it.

MFAN-
We are on the same cruise with you. My husband is active duty Air Force and we will be there as long is he is not deployed.

There are many other military families that are apart right now and we must take advantage of our family's time together as things could change in a heartbeat for us.

If the ship goes Im going.
Ive been cancelled on already. Im not cancelling by choice. I would never make it through that nightmare again.

USAF veteran here and DH is USAF retiree - (both DAV).
The playground bully isn't going to stop us from enjoying the Freedoms that we fought for during Vietnam.

I believe I am "right" with the Lord in how I live and act, so when my death comes, I'll be ready for it. But there is always room for improvement and I don't want to check out TOOOOO soon!

I would go! Heck youmay be safer on the ship in the middle of the caribbean than here in New England with Three Mile Island only a few hours away. (the nuclear reactor) I sincerely hope it does not come to war as I hate to see our troops put in danger but I have complete faith in them. (and thank them immensly for risking their lives so I may enjoy mine in freedom)

Our country will always be "at war" with someone or something. It unfortunatley is the times we live in.

We will not change our plans for a bunch of cowards trying to ruin what other generations fought so hard for.................FREEDOM.

We are on the 5/17/03 Eastern cruise and WE'RE GOING!! Too many wonderful people gave their lives so we could enjoy ours.
two4ruff - give your DH a big hug and thank you from all of us. Have a great cruise!!
Rae - I'm with you.

3 weeks from this very moment I plan on being in the limo or possibly already sitting at the port. :bounce: :Pinkbounc

God Bless you two4ruff, your husband and your family. Thanks for all that are service personnel do. The are the best and the bravest in the world. My dad did 2 tours during Viatnam. I was very young and did not the story tell I was older. He is my hero.

I agree with rae519 and most all the rest so far. Do your best, believe in the Lord, and keep working on improving everyday. You never know when its your turn.

Lets not let these thugs snuff out the American spirit. God Bless the USA.

We are definately going on our 3/16 cruise, but I am now alittle "disturbed" in regards to the status "orange" security.
It is just DH and I going, and last night when they mentioned the raised security on the news, my DD12 said "Mom, I'm scared" and I knew just what was on her mind.

Let's just all be very cooperative and THANK the security at the airports when they search our bags!

Ex-Army Desert Stormer here. DW and I will be taking our 3/29 Western. However, I'm concerned about security. Those merciless terroist loves to target innocent civilians (Remember 9/11). I'm puzzled why they haven't targeted WDW. Why don't they try a military installation and act civilized!

Why don't the anti-war protesters ask the friends and families of the victims of 9/11 how they feel. Furthermore, no matter if an American is pro/anti war, our soldiers are out there doing their job and serving our country. They don't have a choice on their assignments. Let's be supportive!

In my opinion, unless an individual has served, they do not quite "get it" about what 24/7 means in the military. We are a number not a person and we have a AFSC/MOS (job description) that is the only concern for the military - where we go and how long we are there is up to the military.

We would do it again if we were able.

Families understand what their loved ones who serve do in a limited way - and most are supportive.

I hate war. I hate the fighting, the killing, the innocents who die. DH and I just watched the Patriot and thought, yeah, "hand to hand" without all the nuclear weapons, long range missles, biochemical. But it won't happen and we have to fight the way the enemy fights.

I will do what I can to support the people who are in the military although I may not agree with the war and definitely do not agree with killing.

And I won't let any bully keep me off my playground regardless.

"They" are only 'terrorists' if I surrender my choices to the fear "they" hope to instill. I'll keep a watchful eye wherever I go and call them THUGS.

On September 9th, 2001, my son and I spent the day at The New York City Fire Museum, located in the shadow, so to speak, of the World Trade Center. The firemen (and women) donated their time to offer families guided tours of the museum and fire trucks, arts and crafts for the kids, classes on fire safety, a special viewing of a fire boat and so on. I even decided to splurge and bought my son and I "authentic" FDNY t-shirts. They are now cherished reminders of a collective American spirit I can only hope continues in generations to come.

Our children learn by example. I will not allow these criminals to teach my son hatred, fear or a loss of freedom. May he learn to appreciate all peoples (including those who prefer to live out of harmony with others), respect cultural differences rather than judge them and embrace freedom with greater passion than those who would wish to destroy it.

Enjoy your cruise.

We will be going, one reason I gave my DH for planning this trip was that life is too short. My Uncle just survived 9/11, he worked in tower 2 on the 35th floor, reported to work midtown the next day and was laid off a week before Christmas.

We lost some friends and past co-workers that day.

My DH works downtown NYC. I will admit that I have stopped reading the newspaper and watching the news for a while because sometimes I get too nervous with DH riding the subways and working across from the Stock Exchange. However, I will not let my fears stop us from living our lives.

We did cancel our 9/24 trip to Vegas after 9/11, my DH could not return to work for 11 days because there was no electric in his building, so the trip was impossible. We did reschedule and went in April.

I will NOT let the terrorists stop us from living. Everyone enjoy your cruises and make great memories with your children.

Two4ruff, thank your husband for us, and God Bless. We will see you and MFAN on our cruise.
