Sorry if this sounds like a ignorrant question. I am new to flying and dont know much about it. i want to book a flight to Orlando on delta. With what happen today is that wise? I mean can they go out of business and keep my money?

From what I read...with great interest since we are flying Song in November...they are honoring all reservations and are not anticipating any problems with service. Keeping my fingers crossed though! In any case, I don't think they can just keep your money if you make a reservation.

It's HIGHLY unlikely that Delta is going to just go away. They have filed for bankruptcy protection, which means they'll keep flying while they reorganize and settle some of their debts. Many of the legacy carriers have been in and out of Chapter 11 over the past few years with no interruption in service.

Hope so.... Have two reservations to fly in Feb.. One to cincinatti and then to Hawaii... Am counting on it to 'fly' ;)

Rob, I wouldn't worry about it. I've never flown very much, and here in Pittsburgh the only airline (until recently) that we could fly out of Pittsburgh was USAir. They filed for bankruptcy a few years ago, and they're still flying today.

If you're really nervous about it, you could always buy flight insurance, but read the fine print - it might not cover bankruptcy. If you charge the airfare on your credit card, your credit card company might reimburse you if Delta goes out of business, but again, read the fine print.

Technically, they could stop flying tomorrow. Then you'd have to file a claim to get your airfare reimbursed, but you'd have to wait in line behind all the other creditors. The chances of that happening are very slim.

Delta will probably do like USAir is doing - merge with another airline.

I'm flying Delta in July, 2006. I've been told quite a few times not to worry. :)

We are flying Delta in December to go "home" for Christmas. They better be flying, I have a new baby to show off! :teeth:

We are flying Delta October 4th and from what I have read we should be fine. I will call ahead of time and make sure of flight schedules.

Wave at me when you fly over Cincinnati! :wave2:

Flying Song in 16 more days. They'd better still be around.

Well, it did give me a little start when I read about the bankruptcy this morning because I fly out for Albuquerque on Delta tomorrow. :teeth:

I have a flight on Delta scheduled in 2 weeks. I've flown United both before and after their bankruptcy with few, mostly minor, glitches.

As you may know, Delta Air Lines filed to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Yep, I'll keep flying them :)

We booked our airfare with Delta to England last week for our May 2006 trip. I bought travel insurance to cover flight, hotel, and train. I don't look for Delta to go away any time soon.

About half of the major US airlines have been flying under Chapter 11 for years with no apparent problems. It's a crazy system, but obviously it works :confused3

We already booked Song for Feb. vacation. I'll be keeping a close eye on this story. :earseek:
