Would you skip these rides?

This will be our first time with our two boys, ages 11 and 8.

Do you think we should skip some of the kiddy rides in Fantasyland, ie. Dumbo, Peter Pan, etc. Are they more for the preschool age and not grade school age?

Thanks

You'll probably get varying opinions on this but..... my 9 yo's first trip was last summer and he was not impressed with Peter Pan (thought that was our best bet of the "classics"). So we skipped most of the rest of the rides around there and saved our waiting in line for other things he was more interested in like Splash. I WOULD recommend Mickey's Philharmagic for that age however (and we would have done Small World whether he wanted to or not but it was closed at the time :( ). Kind of skipped over Toontown also, but the rest of MK was fine for him - but this is not a kid who's grown up "worshipping" Disney, just moderately interested.
YMMV!

My ds was 7y/o on our last visit to WDW, and he had no interest in those particular rides. He was more excited about attractions the likes of Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, Pirates OTC, Tom Sawyer's Island and the HM.

But he did surprise me and asked to go on the Triceritops Spin at DAK, which is basically the same ride as Dumbo at MK. The advantage, however, was that at DAK there was no wait to get on TS (we walked right on), where as I hear that there is frequently quite a long line for Dumbo.

So, I'd leave it up to the kids to decide which rides they most want to experience. Each member of our family personally chooses one or two 'must see' attractions within each of the four major parks... and we make it our priority to get to those at some point during our visit. As for the lesser priority rides and attractions... we may decide to hit or skip those as we tour each park, depending on the lines and Fast Pass availability.

ARe these rides more "kiddy" rides like you would see at a local amusement park? I'm going to follow the Unofficial Guide touring plans and they have us going to Space Mountain first, Buzz, then crossing over to Fantasyland to do some of these rides.

I just don't want to cross all the way over there if it's not that interesting to an 8 year old. I will take your advice and do Philharmonica and "It's a Small World".

Thanks

We skipped Dumbo on our last trip, but we did the Aladdin flying carpets, something about being able to tip them made it more interesting I guess.

DS is 8 and likes Peter Pan, Tea Cups, he put up with Winnie the Pooh for his sister, and he LOVED PhilharMagic.

It's so funny how kids view different rides differently. My oldest DS (7yrs) doesn't want to ride Dumbo but he really wanted to ride Alladin's, but he won't do Triceratop Spin. He loves Big Thunder Mountain but won't go near Space Mountain and he loves Mission:Space. Go Figure.

He doesn't have any interest in Peter Pan either, but tough for him, Mom and Dad and his brother all love riding it, so he gets dragged along! :teeth: He usually enjoys it though, even though he grumbles about it.

:flower: All of my children love most of these rides ds 10 dd 7 ds4. My oldest def. loves dinosaur, buzz, and mickey's barnstormer. But he is a big pirate fan and still likes peter pan and winnie the pooh. I agree it depends on your kids. We were on the carosel of progress for about an hour and a half because it kept stopping. My dd thought it was so funny every time it restarted.

If its your first trip I say to at least expose them to the rides. Spend some tme in fantasy land and just play it by ear. The will like the tea cups for sure and the Philar Magic is a not to be missed for any age. If the lines are really long the they don't express an interst and no one else want to ride just skip it. I love Peter Pan and Small World so even at 12 DS has to do those two. Don't forget your wants count too.

My DS9 is torn in this area. He'll do all the rides in that "land". He doesn't seem overjoyed, but since he's nervous about going on some other rides, he'll go on these (I think to delay going on rides in other "lands" that he's not really fond of at all).

My kids have always loved Peter Pan, and even in their teens they still go. Pooh came out when they were much too old for it - but hey - they still think it is great.....even though there are still hard feelings for the loss of Mr. Toad, may he rest in peace

We skip the Carosel, Dumbo and ride Small World just for the seat and air conditioning. DD talked me into Teacups this year while the guys watched. Rode Snow White because we hadn't in years.

We go for the magic & imagineering, not just the thrill of the ride....... :goodvibes

We have 2 princess: princess: , so they love  these rides and wouldn't miss them for the world. I could see why little boys could care less though.

Im glad we took DS in 1996 when he was 4. We did most of FantasyLand.
When we returned in 2001 when he was 9 he wanted nothing to do with FantasyLand.
