Would you sit in THIS airline seat?

(ooh, my first post here!)

The first rule I learned after dealing with chronic back pain is that your knees need to be higher than your waist when sitting. There's no way I'd sit in those seats, for any length of time!

Welcome!

Don't let the airlines find that out. They will retrofit the planes with the seats from the Small World boats! :scared1:

I would either drive or not go. Airlines manage to make people so miserable in traditional seats for hours stuck on the tarmac, I can't imagine how badly they'd treat the low cost flyers of these.

I definitly would only if it was a FREE seat.:cool1:

Aliza61 said it the best!!!!

Due to problems with my lower back and my tail bone, I could not sit in a seat such as that - nor could my adult DD with permanent damage to her back as the result of a car accident..

Do they have any idea how many people could not sit in that type of seat - just based on various medical issues alone??

LOL, look at it this way C. Ann. you know how they charge the front row more room now and call it premium seats? That's what they will start to do with regular seats.

They'll offer these seats at a really discounted price but if you want a regular seat, that will be an extra 75 bucks. Of course we'll love it and say the airlines are just "unbundling" or giving us what we want. Or any of the other ridiculous excuses I've heard us use to justify airlines charging fees.

Some one will post "why should I be penalized with a higher price because you guys have back issues"?

Shhh!! If they hear this they'll install 'standing room' bars and loops to hold onto during your flight! :rolleyes1

But only one handed loops like on a mechanical bull!!!

Trying to keep this cowboy thing going since the seat designer obviously wanted to be one at some point, what with the saddle seat and all.

I'm 5ft 10 in tall no way would I sit in those seats. Can you imagine what it will be like when the person sitting by the window has to go to the bathroom? Look at how close the second row is.

They have got to be kidding!

I think they're just putting this idea out there so that we'll start thinking, "hey, maybe those old coach class seats aren't so bad after all."

I can already see a few airlines installing just a few of these and then expanding to a few more and then more...until a regular seat as we know it becomes almost a luxury. Then they raise prices. They can stuff a whole lot of people in a plane if they have a lot of these.

I just posted on the BB about this. If they relaxed security from all the near strip searches and rifling through my bags, making me take flip flops off, let me bring my own drinks on board (loved to bring appletinis in a water bottle) and most importantly let me friggin smoke I would pay double .for those seats My best friend doesn't agree with me but flying now is hellish to me, just getting through security at a small airport sucks. Shoot me but I am wiliing to take my chances. Also getting rid of smoking lounges is BS to me. Especially the one in Vegas which was fully enclosed. If you don't want to be around smoke you picked the dead wrong city to fly into, I don't get those that go there and complain about the smoking drinking gambling and porn peddelers. :confused3

Oh well I will not get on that tangent but yeah if I had more freedoms or choices when I flew and it wasn't a total nightmare just to get on the plane never mind off I sure as hell would stand.

Not to doubt anyone here but the airline industry has been going south for quite a while and no one's stop flying yet?

So what's the breaking point? Why shouldn't they stick in these seats. They've made flying pretty much horrendous, we suck it up. Go on the transportation board and you'll get thousands of disser who will argue how this is a good thing and it's really allowing you to pay for only the services you use.:rolleyes1

So why should they airlines be afraid of backlash? We haven't done a blessed thing yet.
Let's rewind the video tape
Baggage fees: we've justified with sentences like "why should I have to pay if I don't bring a bag"
carryon fees" "Well it will cut down on the time it takes to get people on the plane and we won't be late anymore" Yeah right, if you believe that one, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn that's for sale.
miscellaneous fees Well I don't need to eat or drink or listen to music so I shouldn't have that cost in my ticket.

My prediction:

They'll stick in a few of these seats, charge an extra premium to get a normal seat ( and we'll justify it by saying "why should I have to pay extra because you're short, bad back, tall, overweight, fill in the blank) and we'll go along with the program as long as we can get that 15.99 flight to orlando.
Bottom line, sorry guys as I said I'm the cynic. we would sell our soul for a cheap flight or a "Freebie"

Planogirl, has it right.

Nope. Unless I truly needed a cheap flight somewhere. That looks miserable.
