Would you send your Catholic child to a Christian camp?

let me make sure I understand this

Some christians think other christians aren't really christians, and those christians think the first christians aren't really christians because they aren't THEIR christians.

There's christians think similar christians are saved but other christians are not saved?

I actually heard a negative comment on Sunday about Catholics praying to the Saints instead of to God.

.

A very common misconception, even amongst some Catholics. :lmao:

OP, My kids have attended non denominational camps and recreational activities. No harm done.

Yes, it was said like Catholics pray to Saints instead of God making the Saints a god. It was explained to me here, years ago, that it is more of an asking for intervention of your behalf much like you'd ask a friend to say a prayer for you.

I think you are looking at a Christian Camp, OP. I think in that case, the mission statement is fine. I think they will present the Gospel in a way that lets them know why God even sent Jesus to Earth in the first place, as a Catholic, having Jesus be your Lord and Savior is exactly what being a Christian is. Nothing wrong with that statement--in fact, I'd be relieved to see that is their belief--it does not differ from any Catholics belief that I know. I'm sure this is exactly what she is learning in CCD classes.

If want a different type of camp like others are suggesting, do not look at a Christian Camp. Look at something like Tremont Institute's camp here in the Smokies. All about the outdoors and hiking etc. I sent my daughter there and she enjoyed it. No religious stuff happening there.

Catholic here. My kids attend CCD but they also attend other mid week classes of other Christian faiths. I wouldn't have a problem with sending my kids to the camp. I would look into it first and talk to a few of the other families

OT- DD18 attends a Christian college by the Church of Christ. I wasn't worried about her attending this school. The only thing she was worried about was bible study (required) she said "mom, we are catholic, catholics don't read the bible! that's what the lector is for.

I've spoken to the camp director and he said that the religious portion of the camp consists of a bible study session in the morning in their cabins, some Christian pop music played during activities, and weekly chapel services.

I would not send her because the above could lead to the anti-Catholic stuff.

Without getting into the different religious faiths and etc., I would say, OP, if you & DH are comfortable with her going to this camp, then send her. If one or both of you has reservations about it (I suspect you do since you asked all of US about it), then I wouldn't send her.

Yep and the need to explain that they use the 66 books of the Bible approach.

Exactly, since there are 73 books in the Catholic Bible and those books, or the lack thereof, is key to the faith.

Initially, my reaction was that I would consider it but most likely would not choose to send my DD to a Christian but non-Catholic camp. After hearing their mission statement, however, it feels to me like too much proselytizing would be taking place and I am confident that I would not support it.
