We leave tomorrow, and I havent thought of this until now...is it a necessity for this time of year there? Bugs are long gone at home already:cool1:

I can only speak for myself but I have never packed it, used it or needed it and have stayed many times in various parts of the year.:goodvibes

No. We've never ever had a problem with mosquitos. I don't think we've ever seen one. Can't say the same thing about love bugs.

While I've seldom been bitten there, a month ago I was totally chomped.

I have never ever used bug spray in Disney because I have never had a problem. But if you are staying at a place with a lot of tree like Wilderness Lodge, I would bring it if you are going to spend time outside at night.

In most cases bug spray is not needed (as someone noted it does not work on love bugs) but I have stayed at the WL in both early may and mid june and it would have been useful to have used it before taking the boat to the MK. During the trip in june we also took a carriage ride at fort wilderness before the HDR and the person driving the coach made us put some on before we started the ride. Those were the only times we have needed it in almost 15 years of going.

That's not to say we don't take it every time we go, my wife is paranoid about mosquitoes.

I'm leaving tomorrow too! I don't usually bring bug spray either. I've only experienced mosquitos once from my 6 trips to WDW.

I am a mosquito magnet....I get bitten when no one else around me does. When we went in September I didn't get a single bite-at least not in the parks.

I, too, have never used any insect repellant and have never been bitten by mosquitoes at WDW.

I'm just guessing, but I'm thinking they must spray for them. With all that water/marshes they'd be pretty thick without doing something.

There's a reason why the outdoor pools at people's houses are screened in.

I must admit I have never used it in the Disney Resort. Disney have introduced a particular type of bird into the area that love to eat mosquitos. And those birds are certainley doing a great job! :thumbsup2

Sunscreen on the other hand is essential! ;)

Thanks guys. I, too, am way paranoid about mosquitos, well all bugs in general really....thanks for the info:thumbsup2 Doing some last minute packing, have an early class tomorrow, then we leave tomorrow night:cool1::cool1:

I've heard mention of love bugs here. What are love bugs?

Love bugs are a particularly annoying type of insect found in large numbers in florida at certain times of the year. They are called love bugs because they mate by grabbing a hold of each other and flying around in tandem. They can be bothersome because they will show up in HUGE numbers at times.

We have been bitten when riding the boats at night, especially at WL, on the beach at Poly watching Wishes, and one year at Fantasmic we sat front row and had an issue. All of these were at night and near water, we always spray ourselves with repellant if we know we'll be out and about to these places.

Love bugs are harmless, though in 2006, I recall being at many bus stops and unable to sit down as everything was covered with them alive and smooshed, yuck.

Love bugs don't bite or anything. They're more of a nuisance.

They seem to be attracted to the color white. They seemed to be on white buildings more so than other colored buildings. When I wore a predominantly white t-shirt some tried to land on me, but pretty much left me alone when I wore other color t-shirts.

Also, I think they're only around in May and September. We only encountered them on one trip and I think it was in September.

This is not an exaggeration. Yes, they're that thick. It's nasty.

I have never packed bug spray for a Disney trip, and I have never needed it. And here at home the bugs usually love to bite me.

The only time I have run into the love bugs was during a trip in May, and yeah, they are kind of gross. But they don't bite, so I didn't bother with any bug spray.

Leave the bug spray at home. :)
