Would You Rather Eat at...

The plan/hope at the moment is to do the Deluxe Dining Plan. My guess is that the next time we come will be with more family (including, possibly, kids), so I wanted to splurge on the food when I knew that all involved would really enjoy the signature restaurants.

My thought was to eat breakfast on the fly most days, do a TS for lunch in the park/resort we're doing during the day, and then plan an evening around a Signature.

I paid so much money paying out of pocket for two CS meals and one sit down meal a day plus snacks for just my 8 year old daughter and I, I swore I would never go to WDW without the DxDP ever again. I easily spent $100 a day. EASILY. And it was so much easier just to have everything pre-paid. I don't care if it "saves" money, I just like that it makes your trip all-inclusive and gives you fewer headaches.

Can't help with your 3rd option as I haven't tried any of them

LOVE LOVE LOVE the DxDDP.We will never do Disney without it until the girls turn 10 and get on the adult plan then we will wait a few years unless they eat lots more.

If one plans to dine at a Signature every night, then your 3 daily credits (if you are on the DxDP) would be used up by that dinner, plus one other meal during the day. Which means that one meal per day (probably breakfast) will be OOP. If you don't buy the plan, you would also be paying for breakfast OOP. So breakfast is a "wash". So the question becomes, can you do a CS lunch and a Signature dinner for less than or equal to $80 per person per day before tax and tip. Shouldn't be that hard. ($12 lunch+$12 dinner appetizer+$40 entree (which is high for an average)+$10 dessert=$74). At a minimum, you will certainly be very close. And not having the plan opens you up to the very best restaurants on property. So even if you have to pay just a hair more, you will eat better.

As for "paying in advance"...well....that to me has always been like setting your clock ahead 10 minutes so you won't be late. "Oops. Fooled myself again!!" If it is really that important, pay yourself by making a deposit in the bank, and then put everything on a credit card. When the bill comes, use the money that you paid yourself. You get credit card points plus a bit of interest. Or buy a Disney Gift Card in the exact amount that the DxDP would have cost everyone in your family, and pay all your meals with that. You get the same carefree feeling of having pre-paid.

Really, it all comes down to how important it is to you to dine at the better restaurants. If it isn't that important, then none of this matters. But if splurging on the best is really important, I can't see going to WDW and skipping the best restaurants just because I had to be tethered to a plan.

You forgot to count in at least 2 $5 snacks per day plus bottles of water at $2.50 a pop. I don't have credit cards, I am a cash only kind of gal. I love the Disney Dining Plans, I will never go without one again, it made for a much easier trip when I went with them as opposed to without, but that is neither here nor there. I know what works for us and makes us happy. It may not work for others, but that is ok too, that's not my money.

OP, you are going to have a great time no matter what! Congrats on your engagement!

Not really. With all that food, snacks aren't all that relevant. And we always buy water from Publix and BYO. As I said, the OOP might be a hair more, but for people who want to open up their options to additional (and really good) restaurants, it may be a worthwhile cost. It is for us. Besides, I was factoring in a $40 entree. Drop that to $34 and you have only spent $68 so far. Enough room for a Mickey bar and a water.

I know what works for us and makes us happy. It may not work for others, but that is ok too, that's not my money.

And that is all that really matters. Just trying to give the OP some perspective and choices. (With some math thrown in as well.:lmao:)

I should have said in the original post that this is a complete surprise for my new fiance, which is part of why I'm drawn to the DxDP. Presenting the whole thing to him and saying "go crazy" seems fun and romantic, while I worry OOP would make him quite conscious about the money spent on the trip. It's meant to be a splurge vacation, so I want him to go ahead and order the lobster if he wants it!

As I noted...you can buy a Disney Gift Card and hand it to your server, the same way that you have to hand your room key to the server. You just tell your finance that everything is prepaid and he can order whatever he wants.

La Hacienda is amazing! :thumbsup2
If you are doing the Dining plan~ California Grill is the way to go

Whatever you chose hope you have a wonderfull time :yay:

*Citricos or Narcoosee's?

*Flying Fish or the Yachtsman Steakhouse?

*San Angel Inn or La Hacienda de San Angel?

*Tokyo Dining or Teppan Edo? (Or scrap both and do the California Grill?)

Thanks![/QUOTE]
