Last spring, I had a local car wash wax my car. The guy who did it ran the buffer over the plastic strippings on my car doors, completely ruining them. The car wash owner told me that absolutely they would pay for it, no problems.

The closest Volvo dealer to me is 35 miles south, and with my schedule and their hours, it took awhile to get an estimate to the owner because I had to take off work 1/2 day, drive down there, etc. Once he saw the estimate, he said to go ahead - that they would just give hte payment info over the phone at the time.

So, I've driven to the dealership once already to get an estimate (and took off work). They finally got the parts in, and DH and I have to drive both cars down there again tomorrow night to drop off my car and I'll be without for 2 days while DH and I share, and then drive BACK down there to pick it up.

Now, the guy was nice enough about getting it fixed, but he hasn't even offered a free car wash to make things right. I would expect, and hope, that if you're putting someone out so badly that you would offer to refund the $80 they paid for the wax - or a booklet of free washes - or reimb the gas driving back and forth - or something, dont you?

My question is - would you ask? I am calling him today to let him know the dealership will be calling Thurs or Fri for payment info, and i'm so tempted to say something - but I don't know how!

What do you think?

Personally, I wouldn't. I'd take care of the business they agreed to pay, and then decide whether I wanted to go back to them, or go to someone else in the future.

I wouldn't want them to go near my car again...so a free car wash wouldn't be welcomed!! Why did it cost $80?? Was it a full detail car wash?

I think that having them reimburse the dealership for the repair is probably as much as you're going to get. You could try, but IMHO, I'd just call it a day.

I wouldn't push it.

A lot of car wash places have a disclaimer that they won't be held responsible for any damage to your car. So in that regard, you are fortunate they will pay to get it repaired.

I'd also reconsider if it would be a place I'd want to return.

Ditto--

I wouldn't push nor would I go back to that car wash place. The owner sounds like he is trying to make right what happened but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

It was a detail wash and hand wax, thus the high price. My paint had oxidized terribly on my hood, and they really did a good job as far as that goes... just got carred away with the buffer.

Well, he's paying for the damage. I'm not sure I'd expect anything else.

Don't say anything. He could be planning to apologize again after the damage has been fixed and offer you something at that time. Meanwhile, the others are right - maybe you DON'T want to go back!

No, I wouldn't expect anything more than paying to fix the mistake, which he is doing no problem.
