If your DH had been injured and required medical treatment, you would not have been allowed to pay for it yourself.. Your own health insurer would deny the claim and request payment from your friend's homeowners insurance..

I'd insist on paying. It just keeps the relationship good and I like to take responsibility for my actions. It teaches me to be more careful the next time. $400 is a big item for someone else to have to go and replace.

On the other hand, if it was my xbox, nobody would ever have been told that it was broken.
