Would You Pay $950 for a 2-bedroom Villa? (AAA rate)

I'm trying to see if it is going to be worth it. We are a family of 4 and need the extra space.

Have you paid this type of rate for a Villa?

The 2bedroom is at OKW. AAA rate. January 15th-17th, so for just 2 nights.

It is just a short quick getaway and we are only going to DisneQuest in DTD.

Personally, I would not pay that. I think that is a lot of money. I always tell my DD6 that there is a big difference between need and want. Having said that, if you won't miss the extra $800 then go for it. Has your family ever stayed in a hotel room before? I know it can be cramped but you are only going to be there for 2 nights. Perhaps check out the rental board and see if you can rent someone's points if you are set on staying in DVC. If you are not going to go to the parks (only Disney Quest) I would think staying off site in a much less expensive place would be just fine. Save the $$ for another trip.:goodvibes

Have you checked the rent/trade board? Not everyone is willing to put their faith and trust in other individuals but you may find it much cheaper to rent the points from someone than it is to pay rack rate. Is this a weekend? If it is a weekend then it is actually cheaper this way. for a 2 bedroom it is around 440 per night if you were to rent points for $10/point. These rooms are great and more than enough room. If your rate does not include tax then renting may be a way to save a little. You may even be able to get some points for less. the rate is 44 points for a friday or saturday in January.

IMO, that waaaaaaay too much to spend for even one night.

You can book 2 standard rooms at a deluxe resort for far less. In January, 2 rooms at the GF will only cost $800, the BC would be $670. That's rack rate, if you have AAA you can get at least a 10% discount.

I agree with the majority!! That's alot of money to spend for 2 nights. I would book two rooms at a moderate before spending that kind of money...
If you really have your heart set on a 2 bedroom I would take another poster's suggestion and go to rent/trade board and rent points from a DVC owner. Could save you quite a bit of money. Since you are only going to DisneyQuest have you considered staying off-site? If you are not going to the parks you would be able to find a 2 bedroom off-site for much cheaper!

We pay $950 for 10 days for an offsite villa with 4 bedrooms and private pool with hot tub. There is no way I'd ever pay that much for just a couple of days.

If you're only going to DisneyQuest, book anything off-site. There are lots of nice suite-style accommodations available off-site for a fraction of the cost you are considering.

Try Caribe Royal Suites. http://www.cariberoyale.com/suites/villas.html

The location is just as convenient to DownTown Disney and DisneyQuest as Old Key West. It averages around $200 per night, give or take, depending on time of year for the 2-bedroom villa.

The DTD hotels are really nice as well. The Hilton is a deluxe level hotel and you can walk to DTD. Also, the Buena Vista Palce is beautiful and the walk to the Disney bus stop is only about 2 minutes. If you feel that you need more space there is the Doubletree suites.

OKW is nice, but $950 for 2 nights is too much. Unless you have money to burn - and if you do...... I could help you burn it:rotfl:!

It looks like some think this is $950 for the 2 nights.

OP...can you clarify that this rate is per night or a 2 night total. While I don't know the rates for OKW I do know that a 2br at the BC is over $1300 per night.

I made the assumption that it was for two nights. $950 per night :crazy2: I hope it is a really nice villa!!

OP, *I* wouldn't pay that much, but if it is what you want....

I am renting points for our next trip, and was shocked at how affordable it was.

Enjoy your trip no matter where you stay :wizard:

If I had money to burn I would not be spending it at OKW or SSR, the two most boring resorts on property. If you're ONLY going to DTD, I really don't see the point in spending that much money on what is essentially a Disney condo. I've never ever advised anyone to stay OFF property before, but really, I just don't possibly see how that cost is justified for a non-Disney Disney stay.

I do not agree at all that OKW and SSR are boring resorts. I have stayed at both of them several times each. I do think however, that you should only pay for that two bedroom if you will use those amenities.

If you plan to spend a lot of time in your unit, relaxing and enjoying the balcony, well then your money is being spent on amenities you will use. However, if you plan to spend most of your time at DTD, at the pool, etc, then why pay all that for a two bedroom? At OKW that is like 1300 square feet of space! You could have ample space in a one bedroom for far less, heck a studio for a family of four, for two nights is fine.

We have done one and two bedrooms, and while I loved our two bedrooms, we did that size unit when we had grandparents along. For our family of four, I would never spend the cash or points for that size unit.

Both of these resorts have lots to offer. SSR in particular has a wonderful pool area, my kids have stayed all over the place at WDW and that main pool at SSR is a favorite. And both resorts offer activities for kids (classes, games, etc) and have Community Halls with all sorts of games and activities. Both resorts have bike rentals. And the boats to DTD are fun. So to me, the resorts are great for non park or DTD only trips, just not sure you really need that much space! But that's your call. They are certainly lovely and spacious. But even as a DVC owner who loves those resorts, I wouldn't pay $950 a night for that two bedroom. Ever.

If that's for two nights, I might say yes. But that would have you at just around $425 a night which sounds very low for a two bedroom, even off season.

Also, bear in mind that some two bedrooms are a one bedrooms with an attached studio. Your kids at night would be far away from you and there would be a separate door to the outside. So if you go with this, ask for a dedicated two bedroom that only has one door if you want your kids to not have an exterior door access of their own (and a separate balcony as well).

I do not agree at all that OKW and SSR are boring resorts.

Sorry, I know I'm probably in the minority on that. I have family who own at SSR and OKW. My last WDW stay, Xmas '08, included 11 days at SSR, Congress Park area in a 1bdr. It was comfortable, absolutely, but I felt like I was in a holiday inn suite. They're lovely, quiet resorts and for families I can see how the extra room is a huge perk, but SSR and OKW are just not suited to my personal tastes. To each their own weirdness! :lmao:

We stayed for one night in a 2 bedroom at OKW back in August and while they are big, they are also outdated and worn out. We had just as nice a room at the Double Tree Suites for $80 per night.

Side note, OKW will be going through a complete refurb beginning next year. Everything will be stripped and redecorated.

I second the poster that suggested you check the rent/trade board. We rented points a few years ago for a 2BR at BWV and saved 200+ a night. The savings paid for the dining plan for 5 people for a week. We are staying 1 night post cruise in November(saving 450 in airfare), we were able to rent points for a studio at AKL for 90 dollars. This was only 25 dollars more than our reservation at ASMu. The people are pretty trustworthy over there on that board-believe me you would hear if someone lost their money.

Well, if this helps any I just checked the brand new Waldorf Astoria, and for your dates Jan 15-17 they offer a deluxe suite with 2 queen beds, an additional pull-out sofa, a dining table, wet bar and refridgerator for $429 a night. If you are a senior the rate drops to $408 a night. For 459 you can get a breakfast package at Oscars. I like OKW as it is charming and relaxing but for that kind of $$$, I think I would book something deluxe like the Waldorf! Enjoy whatever you decide!!!
