Would you pack your laptop in your checked suitcase?

I wouldn't hesitate one bit to put my laptop in my checked bag. I believe that any and all belongings are perfectly safe in my checked bag. Everyone who handles my bag after I relinquish it to them treats my belongings with care and respect and would never steal or damange anything.

Just kidding. There had to be ONE post that said it was OK.
FTR, there is no way in H-E-double hockey sticks would I put my valuable laptop in my checked bag.

Ditto, well except DH is the I.S. consultant. LOL

Hate multiple memory cards, we use them but I'd be afraid they would get lost. We take upwards of 5000-10,000 pics on a 10 day trip to Disney. I have to dump the cards.
We also lock the laptop up in the safe at the hotel. I won't leave it out in the room.

10000 pictures on a 10 day trip. That's 1000 pictures a day. That's about 1 picture every 75 seconds if you're taking pictures 24/7. Why in the world would you need to take so many pictures?

I sure wouldn't do it. On our last trip to Disney last year, DH packed his camera in his checked luggage without telling me. Guess what, the luggage made it to Orlando but the camera was gone!

Thank goodness I had my little camera that I carried in my purse or we wouldn't have been able to take any pictures.

I never pack anything valuable in my checked luggage. I don't trust anybody with my iPod, DS, laptop, camera, or jewelry. I've been sitting on a plane at Dulles and seen luggage literally thrown onto the conveyor belts that go into the cargo hold. I sure hope whoever owned that luggage didn't have anything fragile in it. I've also heard about a theft ring at one of the MAJOR airports but I don't remember which one it was. These people would take jewelry, cameras, laptops, anything that they could sell easily. Please don't put any of your valuables in your checked luggage.

Leaving for Disney in about 10 days. I mentioned to my daughter that I was thinking of taking my laptop in my suitcase. DD said that I would be crazy to do such a thing as she felt there was a good chance that it would be stolen.

My eyes, my eyes! I cannot stand the pain of that idea.

Absolutely not!!!! I'd pack myself into checked luggage before I gave up my laptop.

Luggage cannot be locked anymore due to TSA rules. It's tossed about like a sack of feed. And chances are it will get searched (meaning opened and ransacked) because it has electronics stuffed inside.

Carry it on your person or don't take it.

YIKES  Guess DD was right. This is the first time I have seen so many Dissers in agreement on any one subject.

Thanks for answering. I'm thinking I will just leave the laptop home.
Oh, and in case anyone is curious as to why I wanted to bring it with me, I was thinking it might be helpful to be able to access TGM to get info in case we decided to have a change in our plans for any reason. So, really no big deal, it was just for touring purposes.

Thanks again, I may have tried it and would have been sorry.:sad2:

In that case, this is where a smartphone comes in handy (iPhone, Google Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry). You can do light web surfing on it and carry it on your person anyway.

I bring my laptop on my Disney trips too. I have a couple small netbooks for that purpose. I also bring a travel wireless router. They go in my backpack along with my camera, extra memory cards, medicine and essentials. I keep a travel blog when I'm out adventuring and need it for my web work. I also like having my library of videos and music handy for those down moments.
