Would you pack your laptop in your checked suitcase?

no way!! People steal-it happens

why in the heck do you NEED a computer on vacation?:confused3

Many people don't have the privilege of always leaving work behind when they go somewhere. I know that as a college student, if I traveled during the semester my laptop would have to come with me, to stay in touch with my professors. Why the animosity? Its a personal choice that doesn't affect you either way. :confused3

Not if I ever wanted to see it again. And I'm thinking that would be a heck NO! :goodvibes

If I remember correctly those other two times were breast feeding in public and spanking, right? :goodvibes

Yeah, right. :rotfl:

for the record, one was in response to my thread about my niece acting inappropriately towards my son....everyone, to a person, felt that my husband's instincts were right and I was wrong, and that the niece should NOT be around our son, and the other was more recently and suddenly I can't remember what it was about! but I remember it was the second time. :)

Why NOT?? Once we are back in the hotel room and my daughter goes to sleep I hop on the computer for a little while. That is MY relaxation. I don't like sitting in the hotel room watching TV, I would rather log onto the computer. We are going to Great Wolf in 2 weeks for 3 days and I know that place tires her out early so its either I am stuck in the room staring at her sleep or logging on to the computer- I will choose the computer thanks!

You are so right. Last time when flying home our luggage sat out side at MCO in the worst weather. Everything was soaked through. It was a real pain.

My friend had that in Tampa airport. They started to unload the planes luggage and then it started thundering and lightning. Well they leave the stuff where it sits and go inside until its safe to go back out and his luggage was out there in the pouring rain for over an hour. Everything was soaked right through the suitcase. He had new shirts which of course bled all over the other clothes. He was leaving on a cruise and he had to buy new dress shirts on the cruise and wash and dry everything else before they could start enjoying their vacation.

I saved up for a mini to use while I am traveling. I am up very early in the am and usually check in to FB, DIS, and a few other sites while having my coffee and waiting for everyone else to get up.

When my kids were smaller, I'd use my 17" and play movies on the flights for them, and it was worth dragging it around just for that! I've also been stranded in airports many times with cancelled or delayed flights when the computer has come in handy both for researching hotels/rental cars/other flights and again keeping everyone busy for the hours we spent waiting and waiting.....

Would I check it in? No way. Would I bother bringing it? Wouldn't leave home without it:)

Well, I like to surf the net in the morning before the kids get up when we are on vacation. The kids like to watch movies before bed to wind down on vacation. I like to check my HOME emails while on vacation. You can use it to check weather reports, find a place to eat, get driving directions to tourist spots. Why wouldn't you take a laptop on vacation? :confused3

OP I would never check a laptop.

Don't pack anything valuable in your luggage. If you want to see your laptop again don't put it in your luggage!

No, no way, nope, never!

Laptops, cameras, ipods, phones, etc. always go in the carry on. Never, ever in packed luggage!

Are You Kidding? No way I have seen how bags gets tossed and thrown around not to mention problems with theft.

hhmmm......I guess your wonderful, smart and beautiful daughter was
right after all. She gave you an answer and you still had to ask the dis...well, that I do understand, they do know it all..and apparently, so do I :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao:

Just to follow the crowd - absolutely not!!! I only thought of the breakage of it, but theft is a problem too.
I carry mine in my back pack and have no trouble at all.
Have a great vacation!! :flower3:

Not unless it was perfectly okay with me if it disappeared.

Valuable items should NEVER be packed in checked luggage. There is no way to secure them from theft or damage.

I have an old back-up laptop, (from when I upgraded to a newer model,) that I have around. I have flown with it instead of taking my current laptop. But, I would never check it in luggage. That's like giving the baggage handlers a free gift.

I flew last month and my bags had to be transfered in the rain. When I got home everything in my suitcase was wet. Glad it was just clothes, thankfully I had my laptop in my carry on.

No freakin way! :scared1: Nothing I value goes into my checked bags. Even my Disney pins go into my carry-on. Only check stuff you can easily replace.

Never in a million years would I check a computer.

Leaving for Disney in about 10 days. I mentioned to my daughter that I was thinking of taking my laptop in my suitcase. DD said that I would be crazy to do such a thing as she felt there was a good chance that it would be stolen. She suggested that if I wanted to bring it I should bring it as a carry on. I really don't want to do that as I already have enough to carry on with me and we'll be traveling with my 3 little grandsons, so the laptop would just be an extra thing to worry about and deal with.

Anyone have any experience with packing their laptop in their checked luggage? Would like to know how you made out.

Thanks,

Karen
Have you seen how they put the luggage inside the aircraft?! they THROW the luggage.
We are frequent travellers(every month), and we always take our machines as carry-ons. My mother happened to mistakenly check in the wrong suitcase on her last business trip and her laptop is officially retired(it was a year old). It was a Mackbook. The screen has been compressed in one corner to the point where the screen only works halfway through the screen and the keyboard has 2 buttons(same corner) that no longer work.

If you have a high end suitcase(the solid exterior ones, which usually cost a couple hundred a piece), then I have no doubt in my mind with proper packaging that you could get away with leaving it with your regular plan luggage, but for the space it takes and what it's worth, just slide it in your carry-on handbag :)
