Would you miss Indy Speedway

parents hate it.
kids love it.
the decision should be simple. keep it.
my son would miss it very much.

I think they should update it, and maybe take them off of a track or something, more like go carts, but they should keep it.

My 2c - like so many people I loved Autotopia as a small child but once I got my permit the love affair died a very quick death. That seems to say that the appeal is not in scenery, story, or the "joy" of driving those jerky little cars, it's all in the sheer novelty of it. And that's a great thing to like. It is a nice change from just watching rides to actually controlling them. BUT with that said, I do not think for a moment that the current autotopia is the best Disney can do. Honestly, I've been on a car ride at 6-flags (of all places!) that was better than Autotopia - the cars were far easier to steer, the gas pedal was more responsive (the Auto. ones seem to have two settings - on and off), and the drive was beautiful. Woodsy and peaceful. Not that Disney should immediately copy that but it does highlight that you can retain the magic and novelty without keeping it the same.

Last trip the lines were tiny so I decided to try it, see if it was still all I remembered. Honestly? It was fairly miserable. Gas fumes, whiplash from the car bouncing around the rail, and the inevitable traffic jam that took 10 minutes to clear. By the time it was done I had a headache and a neckache and my ears were buzzing. Not my ideal ride. And I'm a long-licensed driver so that car's bouncing and jerking forward and all was NOT due to me not knowing how to drive!

All to say once again that I would miss Autotopia if it suddenly disappeared. I would, however, also be the first one to cheer were they to stop ignoring it and finally update and fix it up.

It's not my favorite ride but I would hate to see it rethemed to Cars or any other movie. I'm getting really tired of ride after ride getting rethemed to a movie. We need more new original rides.

Actually the 'ol "if it ain't broke dont fix it" applies.
There was nothing wrong with World of Motion to begin with.
The idea of having a pavillion devoted to innoventions in "tomorrow's"
transportation methods was great. To sustain it so it does not become
stale or boring ,all you need to do is continue to introduce the new ideas
year to year, bi-annually or whatever.
Same with Horizons. The theme just needs updating accordingly.
SO MANY other amusement parks devoted to thrill rides out there.
The "spirit" of exploring the World of Tomorrow was abandoned
in place of "just give 'em a thrill ride, they wiil come, lot less effort,
here's your thrill ride,no more boring complaints"....

We are hardly near the age of the Jetsons, there is still the imagination
and wonder to see that kind of setting.

The Spirit of the original Epcot needs to return, and I believe it will.
So,no you can't scream and yell like a juvenille maniac the way the rides
at World of Motion and Horizons were.THEY WERE EDUCATIONAL.
AND WONDERFULLY ENTERTAINING.
A perfect outlet for showing the life of tomorrow before tomorrow
arrives. If they put EPCOT back to the way it was, it will see an
enormous renaissance. The Illuminations too. The lazer show
across the sky with the classical music was spectacular.

YOUR HEART ISN'T IN IT. We've heard that expression before.
That's what happened to Epcot. Thrill rides, lackluster communicores,
even small details in their signage and "tomorrow's child" theme
music that were removed and should not have been.
The heart and spirit of Epcot has been neglected.

When your heart isn't in it ,it shows.Time for Epcot and the Imagineers
to believe in the World of Tomorrow again, and as Walt said,
KEEP MOVING FORWARD.

o'malleyalleycat,

There are parts of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland that shine much brighter than the speedway, but I'm not sure if "educational" is properly descriptive of much of MK. I know you are addressing the issues of Epcot, but the topic here is the speedway at MK. There may be parallels, but in this case, the sense I get is that this attraction needs change.

I find this as an interesting dilemma. We have an original attraction taking up a lot of space that many kids love but is considered "shallow" even by today's Disney's sub-par standards. Do you mess with a MK original or do you improve it and pretend that it should be an E ticket level ride or create another attraction all together. There is definitely under-utilized space in the Tomorrowland area and the last thing we need is to make another meet and greet area.

My kids like it but I don't think it's worth the long lines, and it sure does take up a lot of space. Wouldn't it be cool if they took a small piece of the land and made a small 'Cars-The Movie' ride in Toon Town for the little ones, and used the rest of the land for a great E-ticket ride for Tommorwland?

Or how about something with maybe electric / concept type cars since it is in Tommorwland afterall?

I like your last idea--electric/concept type cars.

Woops. Indy Speedway-MK
Test Track-Epcot.........well....updating with concept type cars would
certainly coordinate better with the "tomorrow" theme, and help
rejuvinate the ride. ISPWY has possibilities without having to be replaced completely.

I certainly wouldn't miss it, especially if they would put something even better into it's place! I don't think it's a very "Disney" ride.

I would not miss it at all. Especially when you think of the possibilities that huge chunk of land it would open up for Tomorrowland or Toowntown.

i would only miss it if they replaced it with a ride or attraction that isnt as busy as this ride always seems to be. every time i have been to MK it always seems to be loaded with kids and their families waiting in long lines to ride it. if they are going to replace it then make sure it has the ability to draw as many people to it as this one does. dont need any extra people clogging up the lines of my favorite rides;)

I think that the reason that the ride looks so busy all of the time is that it is amazingly slooooooow loading and unloading. {IMHO}

I wouldn't miss it. My mum likes it but I have no idea why, there is no sense of freedom, you just queue up for an age to be stuck in a car that is on a fixed track, getting more nauseous from the fumes every second. I think they should put a new ride in there, and the idea of using 'Cars' as a theme seems like a good one.
