Would you "Luau" again?

We did the Luau at the Poly 5 or 6 years ago and it was a hoot! I thought the food was just so-so (but my DH loved it :confused3 ) but the show was very well done. Actually my DH was picked to go onstage and hula. My kids and I were rolling on the floor laughing. People recognized DH on the bus too--it was just too funny. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Anyway, I have read some not so favorable reviews lately and would like to know what you think. Any help at all will be appreciated. I can use my new DDE for the 4 of us so the price won't be too bad. Please help!

Thanks so much!

We loved the food at the Luau, in fact it was our DD's favorite meal that trip. :flower: We do plan on going back!

If you decide to go, let us know how you liked it when you get back! Hopefully you will like the food better this time!

If it were totally up to me, I wouldn't do the Luau again. I had done it a few times, and recently did it with my fiancee when we celebrated our engagement. Neither of us were wild about the food, though the show was fun. I would only do it again when we have kids to take them at least once, or if we vacationed with a group or another couple as something fun for all of us to do.

I prefer the food at the Hoop De Doo and find both shows equally fun, and generally can't afford both (or even one) when I go. So if I pick one its the Hoop De Doo

Since you did the Luau already I would skip it. There are so many other wonderful places to eat at WDW. I would try a new one. I went to the Laua a few years back. I did not care for the food (picky eater) . :mickeybar The show however is great. I think everyone should see it once.

We had a great time at the Spirit of Aloha – aka the Luau – in May 2003. This was not too long after it “re-opened” with the new show. It was our first ever visit to the Polynesian – what a beautiful place! We had fun - the food was good and the show entertaining. The consensus in our group was that while it was fun, it was not one of those things that we feel is an every visit kind of thing.

If you have not been in a while – it might warrant another visit – since they have made changes to the show.

Poor food quality, heat, bugs, spotty service, sit with strangers where you may or may not be able to see, ok but not great show.

Nope, I would definately not do it again.

Gotta agree- I would never go back to this. The show was cheesy- not funny cheesy, just cheesy. Not up to Disney standards at all. Bad dialogue, bad acting. The only interesting points were when they did the Lilo & Stitch songs, which I love.

The food was also bad. Mass-produced, lukewarm, blechhh. Like eating at a cheap banquet facility.

We did the luau on Friday night. I can admit that I was very apprehensive about doing it after all the bad reviews from here.

I also thought that my 4 yo dd would be bored to tears. SHE LOVED it. The food was good--not like 5 stars dining...but good. It was warm--it wasn't lukewarm...

DD wants to know when we can do another luau... Even my 21 month old dd was trying to dance in her highchair. It was a very enjoyable night for our family.

Maybe because there were four of us & we were at an end table I didn't feel like we were sitting with strangers.

There were not any bugs when we were there--maybe because it was February and kinda cool. I had brought bug spray wipes w/ me just in case--but we didn't need them.

No way would I go again. I went last May with DD4. The food was okay, but the show was pretty lame. I wish I had read more reviews of it before I went.

We have done the Luau twice and loved it both times. My dd loves the ribs for some reason and the waiter always brings back a couple of refills.

Compared to the "old show" the current show is just a shadow of it. The food was still very good in our opinion and we enjoyed ourselfs but its just not as good and I feel not worth the money we spent on it. We will probably skip it on our next trips, for a few year at least...smjj

We all love the luau! My 6yo DD loves the luau and the dancing, even DH really enjoys it. We actually like the food. It is nice to eat outside at night with the tiki torches lit. The first part of the show is not that great, but after that, all of the dancing is wonderful. We've been there at different times of year, and have never encountered the bugs! We are planning on going again this April!
