Would you let your 4 year old do Pirate Cruise?

If they were the kind of kid who liked that kind of thing...independence, adventure, etc., then I would...and I did!

At 7, it is still one of the highlights of his little life!

My 4yr. old DS went just last week and LOVED it! :thumbsup2 FYI there are two adults with them at all times.

Hope this helps!

Sounds neat I wish my DS 4 would do it. But He has no fear and would probably jump off the boat thinking he was going swimming. He has some issues. LOL They would probably bring him back to me and say no Thank You. LOL He has ASD so there is a little more to it than just listening. Maybe in 2 years he will be ready.

I think since everyones kid is different there isn't a answer we can give you. Some kids at 3 can talk like a 20 year old and follow directions and enjoy being away from the parents and interacting with others yet some at 5 still can't do that.

There is no right or wrong just what is best for your kid and who knows them better than their mom!!!

Good luck on your decision.

My babies are still way to young to do the cruise (1 and 2) but I just love how nice this thread is! Even those who aren't comfy with letting their children do it aren't judging those who are (and vice versa). :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! I convinced my DH to let her do this, then I called and nothing is open our whole trip! i tried all the other cruises also, nada, zilch. So all this worrying for nothing I guess! DD is a little bummed, but I will think of something else fun for her to do.

If I were you, I'd keep calling...every day, multiple times in a day. Chances are, someone will cancel.

BTW, my son is going to be 5 when we go in December and he CAN'T WAIT to do this!!!!!!! pirate:

FWIW- our kids (DS almost 8 and DD just turned 9-it was for her birthday) just did this a couple of weeks ago. I wish we had known about it sooner. They were almost too old for it. DD had a great time, but she probably just took over (she is always large and in charge LOL) DS thought is was fun, but I think it is a bit more "magical" for the younger set. I would let a 4 or 5 year old go. I was glad they paired them up with other kids, they get tired of each other LOL!

I'm glad I read this thread. I've been considering a pirate cruise as a special treat for my DS4 and DS8 and it would also give DH and I a little time alone with DD13. I think they boys would love the cruise!

I spent the time waiting for DD walking around the GF, taking pics, having eggs benedict at the GF Cafe and going to the gift shop.

My just barely 4-yo will be going in June, IF I can get them in, he'll be going with his 6-yo brother. I would let him go alone if he wanted to and ds6 couldn't go or didn't want to.

Our DD went on the Pirate cruise with her older cousins when she was 4. She loved it. As far as I know there is a restriction for the # of kids allowed and plenty of adult supervision provided. I really never even considered that she might fall out of the boat. I worried more about her getting a sunburn. They took really good care of the kids! They had a blast.

My 6 year old DS (nearly 7) did this last week. There were several 4 year olds on the cruise. If the child is independent enough not to mind being without you for a couple of hours, it shouldn't be a problem. The trip is very safe. All the kids wear their life jackets the entire time, that you pick out and put on them before the trip. So you can make sure they are on tight enough. The kids have a partner and it's a pontoon boat, so obviously the boat doesn't go very fast.

My DH and I enjoyed the 2 hours to have a nice breakfast at the Kona Cafe. Since it's on the monorail route. The GF cafe was more expensive and the menu isn't as interesting. We're wondering when we can book him for an all day pirate cruise.
j/k :thumbsup2

My 6 year old will be going in December, on the CBR one. I would have let her go at age 4, but not alone. Up until now, we haven't had any friends kids to go with her, but she is finally getting to go.

Didn't see this mentioned...they also buddy them up with someone and they put the smaller ones on the inside of the seats. I think I've read where you can see them at the other resorts doing their treasure hunts, maybe you could drive and follow and "spy" on them. (Dh and I took the monorail to the Polynesian and had a wonderful quiet breakfast at the Kona Cafe...and talked about ds the whole time :rotfl2: )

That's sweet :goodvibes

I would absolutely have sent my 4yo (when we went last March, right at her birthday, or on our upcoming trip in December), *if* I could have gotten us reservations... (And if anyone wants to give up a reservation the week of December 10-14, let me know!!!) *But* she would have been going with her older brother. I don't think I would send her on her own...

I think it depends on the individual child. My son would have been fine at 4, my daughter wouldn't be *except* with her brother... I doubt she'll even be ready in a year -- maybe two.

But it doesn't matter, 'cause I can't get reservations! :(

Keep checking Mabila and best of luck, maybe there will be a cancellation.

My two went when DD was 4 and DS was 7. They had an absolute blast, and somewhere or other I have great pics of them, all decked out in their bandanas and lifejackets. I'll admit I was a little nervous, but you could already tell on the dock that they would be very well looked after.

They went several years ago, and at that time the snack they served was a PB sandwich and grapes, if I recall. To me, the greatest risk would be for any child was who was allergic to peanuts! I found it incredible that Disney would take any chances and offer a peanut-containing snack to children, especially when their parents weren't present. With any luck, Disney has changed the menu, and that risk will have been removed.

Cheers,
